Quietly ensconced in the sleepy Hawaiian town of Puako, on Big Island’s northwestern Kohala coast is a tremendous four-bedroom beachfront villa christened Puako Hylton. This tropical home constructed in Balinese fashion can house up to ten guests who will be amazed by the finery within. Just imagine lanai-lounging, looking into the distance as the fading fiery sun sets into the ocean waves that crash harmlessly onto the coast.
Puako Hylton has a state-of-the-art security gate as well as a monitored alarm system. Here, most people’s days and nights will no doubt be spent in between the beachfront and lanai, soaking in the Jacuzzi or swimming in the ocean utilizing either the provided snorkeling or flotation equipment. The interior of the home is comfort defined, with the latest in entertainment including a home theater, iPod docks and Wi-Fi. The villa also possesses climate control throughout, ceiling fans and has been made wheelchair accessible.
Entering Puako Hylton, one would think they have gone to Hawaiian heaven. The spacious interior features vaulted bamboo ceilings, cherry wood floors amid a subtle decor theme that integrates ocean elements and vibrant plants to produce a tropical and romantic aesthetic. The ample kitchen features sleek, stainless steel appliances and alluring ribbon mahogany cabinets. Both living and dining areas are elegantly furnished and are located proximate to their alfresco counterparts on the ironwood lanai made easily accessible through convenient vanishing walls.
Privacy and sleeping quarters go hand in hand, and all four bedrooms have private entrances and private en-suite baths. The master bedroom features a plush queen bed with a large tub and shower in the en-suite. The remaining rooms each feature large king size beds and each room has been given the option of air conditioning or ceiling fans alongside TVs, telephones and safes.
Guests of Puako Hylton will marvel at what Hawaiian nature has in store for them. This oceanfront property is near coral reefs that are home to exotic fish, turtles and even seasonal whales. Puako may be a small town, but it’s still near all the action with world renowned Mauna Lani and Mauna Kea resorts nearby along with their facilities including championship golf courses, spas, restaurants and bars. The Puako Hylton was everything we expected and more. Nann Hylton was the gracious hostess, even contacting our daughters individually to see if she could do anything to make their stay more enjoyable. Eight of us stayed in the villa, and all of us were enchanted by its luxury and appointments, and the sunset views were spectacular. The well-equipped kitchens, the barbeque, the hammock, and the outdoor eating deck all got rave reviews, as did the bathrooms and living areas.
Beautiful location but across from a condominium complex where people seemed to be watching (can look straight into the upstairs room). The " pod" arrangement is great for couples or adult children but not so great for younger children. A lot of "House Rules" which kept me on edge and also "video surveillance" claiming not to be in bedrooms and bathrooms was a little off putting (just outside would be nice and comforting). Again, beautiful location right on the ocean and that evened out feeling inside the house.
The house was the most well equipped and beautifully appointed we have ever rented. it is right on the beach with numerous turtles basking in the sun. I would highly recommend this property.
The house is lovely, The set up of the house is very spacious and private. The design is really pleasing outside as well as inside. All of the rooms have beautiful views of the beach and ocean. It is truly oceanfront, you can hear the gentle waves from inside the house. The rooms are set up to offer each guest privacy and space, none of the bedrooms are less then master-like. The kitchen is well stocked (maybe a little too much so) and very up to date.
The house is exactly what we had expected, very nice, clean, and very well, a quick drive to all the tourist spots and golf (10 minutes) but staying at this house you felt a world away from all the typical Hawaiian crowds and over priced resorts.
My expectations were very high, and I was not disappointed. Too many positives to mention here - best I can express it is to say there was a complete absence of any negatives.
