Enjoy a week (or two) on your own Tuscan estate at Villa Barcarelli. The seven-bedroom property includes both a farmhouse, separate cottage and private park with a lake and plenty of walking paths. Take time to explore the villa and catch the views of the surrounding hills, or use it as a base to see the nearby cities of Pisa, Florence and Siena.
Villa Barcarelli’s outdoor spaces make it easy to take in the Tuscan sun. Cook at the outdoor barbecue or outdoor kitchen and dine under the pergola, or pack a picnic and find a shady spot under the olive and cypress trees on the property’s 100-acre grounds. There are both landscaped gardens and play areas for children, plus a pool, outdoor shower and tennis court. Inside, there’s a computer, wireless Internet and baby equipment for your convenience.
The villa’s terracotta floors, beamed ceilings and brick arches speak to its farmhouse past—the building dates from 1850—but the furnishings are modern and comfortable. Gather on the sofas in the library or living room, which has both a fireplace and a ceiling fan, or around a long table in the formal dining room. The bright, spacious kitchen has an island breakfast bar, blender and dishwasher.
There are six bedrooms in the main farmhouse and one in the cottage; all have ceiling fans and window screens. In the main house, the master bedroom has a king bed and en-suite bathroom. There are three additional bedrooms with king beds and en-suite bathrooms, and one bedroom with a king bed and private bathroom. The sixth bedroom has two twin beds and an en-suite bathroom. In the cottage, the bedroom has a queen bed and en-suite bathroom.
Villa Barcarelli is situated between Pisa, Florence and Siena. It’s a 10-minute drive to the town of Forcoli, with shopping, dining, a church and a gym. The Pontedera train station is a 20-minute drive, and a golf course is a 30-minute drive. Take a day trip to the beach, a 45-minute drive away, and when it’s time to leave, the Pisa airport is only 40 minutes away.

We loved the villa generally but there were a couple of downsides - it wasn't very accessible at all; it wasn't that child friendly (windows were a worry as they had no proper locks and were at waist height; stone floors and stairs were a worry with children also). We also felt that the housekeeper could have been better. On the first day she didn't clean all the rooms despite not staying for her allocated time and generally she seemed to spend a lot of time chatting to the gardener. She also didn't sort out the issues we raised with her in a prompt manner.
