About Dennis Tuschen

I live and work in Sioux Falls, SD and own this property with 3 of my brothers. We all have kids involved in sports and don't get to use the cabin much during the summer months so we offer it for rent.

Dennis Tuschen purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Dennis Tuschen chose Black Hills

There is no cabin more beautiful than a log cabin. This cabin is built with natural logs all hand peeled and with the National forest bordering the property, it is in the perfect setting. Many of our guests have told us that staying in a log cabin was the highlight of their Black Hills vacation, and kids just love this place.

What makes this cabin unique

See Deer, Elk and Turkey on or near the property. Access to some of the best 4-wheeling trails in all of the Black Hills. Close to the Ski Slopes, Spearfish canyon and Deadwood. 25 miles from Hill City with Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse nearby.

Rapid Creek and the Mickelson trail are 2 miles away for fly fishing or Biking.

Beautiful Cabin in the Black Hills!

  • 5 of 5

This is an amazing cabin in the heart of the Black Hills. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Dennis made everything easy - from the ease of booking and paying for the cabin, to the turn-by-turn directions to get to the cabin from all directions, to the detailed cabin amenities information and finally to the clean-up instructions provided in the cabin for use prior to our departure. From the moment we pulled into the driveway and even moreso when we walked in the door, it was evident that this cabin has been built with and cared for with pride. It is absolutely beautiful. Our family enjoyed all the little details, including the cabin decor and fun signs (both inside the cabin and outside by the deer feeder). We thoroughly enjoyed looking at the photo book walking us through the creation of the cabin - the amount of detail and thought that went into it is impressive! We also enjoyed reading through the guest book to find out why other people stayed, what they saw, what they did while here, etc. All of the amenities are available at this cabin - everything you need to cook your own food, relax, play games, watch movies, and have a great night's sleep - our 9 and 11 year old daughters loved the bunk beds! We also enjoyed the fire inside and made s'mores each night. Opening the windows at night, it was incredible how QUIET it was outside! There is no cell service at the cabin which is a BLESSING! It was great to spend quality time as a family without any electronic distractions; we enjoyed playing board games and cards! We saw wildlife every morning and evening - deer, elk (saw one on our way out the last day), steer, and encountered black cows in the middle of the road a couple of times! The cabin is centrally located to all attractions in the Black Hills area. Our family 100% recommends this cabin - it is amazing, beautiful, and perfect! We wish we had stayed longer!

Beautiful location, very nice cabin!

Stayed here for a weekend four wheeling trip and had blast! Beautiful location close to the trails, and a wonderful, very roomy cabin to kick back in at the end of the day.

Beautiful cabin

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful cabin, pictures are accurate and current. Dennis was a great remote host and the cabin was stocked with just about everything except food. The cabin was a peaceful place to come back to after a full day of sightseeing. The only thing I didn't expect was the long drive on gravel roads to get to the cabin, I am glad we had an all wheel drive Outback. The drive did allow time to enjoy the beautiful landscape and wildlife. Cell service is spotty, but a landline is provided, if needed. South Dakota is a beautiful state to visit and we were happy to to add it and the cabin to our book of family memories!

Therapeutic

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is cute. I would consider it a therapeutic cabin. There is no cell service or Wi Fi which ended up being very awesome. The only complaint I have is that it is 25 minutes from anything and the gravel for 7 miles is a pain...other than that it's awesome! I would go back!

Owner's Response: Good news about the gravel is that it's back on track to get paved soon.

Secluded and close to trails

  • 5 of 5

This is a well kept cabin with all the amenities you need. The cabin is located in a secluded area close to ATV trails. The furnishings are up to date and nice. The evenings cool down and make great sleeping. This is an excellent location to unplug. There is limited cell service so you need to take care of business elsewhere.
