We're a husband and wife Team, one who works in Banking, the other who consults in Banking. The mountains and the outdoors have always been an important part of our lives. In year's past, we've actively hiked, mountain biked, and enjoyed white water. The mountains have always called to us, and we've always sought to share what we love. Now with 4 kids (one still at home) and 7 grandchildren, the importance of combining family and adventure is important to us. We built this home to eventually retire to, so we built it high end and handicap friendly.
Susan Hunnicutt purchased this cabin in 2008
Being a graduate of Appalachian State University and spending a lot of years skiing and enjoying the outdoors, the male part of the team was immediately drawn to the Boone Blowing Rock area. The female part of the team saw nothing but two small towns with a limited amount to do and to experience. To her, the Asheville area presented a wealth of different experiences. In year's past, the couple had spent many hours hiking, and rafting in and around the Asheville. The memories of the many small mountain towns, the festivals, and recreational activities soon drove the decision in the right direction. Upon exiting the car after viewing many lots in and around the area, the sound of the babbling creek at the back of the lot is what made the decision. It was a great decision.
Serenity and peace. Accessibility and 'self-contained' adventure. The Preserve is a gated acreage home site which borders the Pisgah National Forest. There are hiking trails, streams, and water falls in the preserve. There is an abundance of nature. We have seen bears, turkeys, rabbits, deer, raccoons and skunks. This is all possible because there is NO HUNTING! You are just minutes from Black Mountain, Asheville, Hendersonville, Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. There are a large number of crafts show and 'events' happening all the time.
Thanks for asking Susan, we made it home fine. We sincerely enjoyed our week in your beautiful home. We ended up bringing my 76 year old mother instead of my daughter and her family, as they decided to move to Portland. My mother had never seen anything so beautiful and thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the deck reading all day. You had a book there that she picked up on Sunday and didn’t put down till she finished it late Monday. It rained all day on the first day so we didn’t get out, but there was so much in the home to do (or not to do, which was sooo relaxing). My 30 year old son found a jigsaw puzzle and started working it Sunday afternoon and had it finished (with minimal help from the rest of us) by Tuesday night (all 1000 pieces ARE there too).
Thank you again for letting us use your home for the week. There was no detail overlooked and my 18 month old granddaughter really enjoyed all the things to play with in the little girls room. You may want to add a photo of that room to the listing as it was totally unexpected, but what a nice surprise.
Beautiful home with all the amenities! Movie room and air hockey big hits. We had a two family pre-back to school vacation and was a hit with all ages. Lots to do close by and an easy drive. Kitchen was well stocked and furnishings very comfortable. Owners very accessible and attentive.
This was a great location for our bachelor party weekend. It accommodated 10 guys nicely. There was lots of room for us to move around. Each floor was like a new house. And we loved the double decker deck - especially at night. The outdoor fireplace was key! Susan (the owner) was responsive and helpful during the coordination of the trip. I would definitely recommend her house to others. Thanks for helping us make some lasting memories!
Our family of 8 spent our Memorial Day Weekend at this awesome home. Everything about this house was great, from the expansive wrap around decks to the incredible theatre room. (I want to build one in my home now) We enjoyed the area that the house was nestled in to as well. We hiked to the falls and had a great time. The house was very convenient to the cool little town of Black Mountain where we enjoyed walking around and dining. I recommend this vacation home to anyone. It has everything!
We enjoyed the quiet serenity of this lovely cabin for a long weekend in May. The main floor and lower floor bedrooms provided privacy for each family. We began our days with coffee and breakfast on the upper deck and watched the sun rise over the mountains. Then we ended our days with wine on the lower deck at dusk as the last of the light stayed on the mountain tops. This is a spacious, well-equipped cabin in a gorgeous setting.
Loved the time we spent here. The kitchen had everything we needed. Ingles groc. was on the way out of Black
Mountain, easy to stop and grab what food we needed. Plenty of space for us all. The property is as described! Clean and everything woking well. The kids loved watching movies each night...the home has lots of movie choices. Our son loved the air hockey table. The girls enjoyed sitting on the deck reading. Fun to hike around the area. We ate at a pizza place in Black Mountain called Fresh (i believe) wood fired pizza... it was very good. Everything was better than we expected! Thank you for being easy to work with and sharing your home!
Everything about the house was wonderful. The location was the perfect distance to Asheville for our needs. The amenities I. The home exceeded expectations. I recommend this home to anyone.
