About Susan Hunnicutt
We're a husband and wife Team, one who works in Banking, the other who consults in Banking. The mountains and the outdoors have always been an important part of our lives. In year's past, we've actively hiked, mountain biked, and enjoyed white water. The mountains have always called to us, and we've always sought to share what we love. Now with 4 kids (one still at home) and 7 grandchildren, the importance of combining family and adventure is important to us. We built this home to eventually retire to, so we built it high end and handicap friendly.
Susan Hunnicutt purchased this Cabin in 2008
Why Susan Hunnicutt chose Black Mountain
Being a graduate of Appalachian State University and spending a lot of years skiing and enjoying the outdoors, the male part of the team was immediately drawn to the Boone Blowing Rock area. The female part of the team saw nothing but two small towns with a limited amount to do and to experience. To her, the Asheville area presented a wealth of different experiences. In year's past, the couple had spent many hours hiking, and rafting in and around the Asheville. The memories of the many small mountain towns, the festivals, and recreational activities soon drove the decision in the right direction. Upon exiting the car after viewing many lots in and around the area, the sound of the babbling creek at the back of the lot is what made the decision. It was a great decision.
What makes this Cabin unique
Serenity and peace. Accessibility and 'self-contained' adventure. The Preserve is a gated acreage home site which borders the Pisgah National Forest. There are hiking trails, streams, and water falls in the preserve. There is an abundance of nature. We have seen bears, turkeys, rabbits, deer, raccoons and skunks. This is all possible because there is NO HUNTING! You are just minutes from Black Mountain, Asheville, Hendersonville, Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. There are a large number of crafts show and 'events' happening all the time.

Wonderful Columbus Day weekend with family & friends at this beautiful house. We had tickets to Oktoberfest in Asheville, and this was an easy drive. We didn't cook much at the house, but it had every possible item we would have needed. The game room air hockey was a big hit with the young adults in the group, as was the outside fireplace. Large enough house for 9 adults to coexist comfortably. Hurricane Nate ruined our hike to Catawba Falls nearby, but the theater room had lots of DVD`s, and the kitchen table was large enough for Spades and Rummy. Black Mountain is very close and had several fun places to shop and eat. Thanks Susan, for the lovely welcome gift and quick answers to our questions.
Thank you so much Craig and Kathy for your kind words! Sorry you received so much rain! Please come back again!
A Great Get-A-Way
We took 10 of our students away during spring break to thank them for their service to the university. We usually go to a city, such as Charleston or Savannah, but this year, they wanted to go to the mountains. The lodge was a perfect place for us. There were ample bedrooms and bathrooms, and the students particularly enjoyed the open master room, the theatre downstairs and the game room upstairs. There were numerous hiking trails to explore, and there was easy access to Biltmore and to Asheville. It was a perfect house in a perfect setting.
Luxurious, comfortable, and personal
What a great vacation we had at this beautiful house in the mountains! Susan and Frank are so amazing and answered every question we had within minutes of asking. I felt “home” in their house. It was well and thoroughly stocked, we didn’t need for anything. We had 10 people with us and everyone had plenty of space. We loved every minute of our stay!
Thanks Kimberly, You guys were great! Thanks for enduring the freezing weather and thawing the pipes! Come back again!
Unbelievable log home in the mountains!
The photos of this property are wonderful but when we arrived (Dec 22-29), we were blown away! It was even better than we had hoped for. We had 9 people & it easily could’ve slept more. The kitchen was equipped with anything & everything you could possibly need & we actually cooked a lot. We loved the speaker system & it really put us in the Christmas spirit playing holiday music throughout the house. They also had a beautiful Christmas tree which was a nice surprise! We spent Christmas Eve by the outside fireplace reading Christmas stories. We loved going into Black Mountain, talking to locals & the food was great! The town is really neat. We went into Asheville twice. Once downtown & another to the Biltmore Estate. We hiked Catawba Falls & although we were freezing, it was SO worth it. We also stopped for breakfast on the way home at Medina’s in Chimney Rock & I’m not exaggerating- if I was on my deathbed, I would request their biscuits ‘n gravy as my last meal! Old Fort is a great location with so much to do nearby. It was undeniably the BEST family vacation we have ever taken. Thank you Susan & Frank, your home & the experience we had there is unforgettable!
Thank you Cindy for the kind review. We are so happy you guys got out and enjoyed the falls and surrounding cities. That's for the biscuit tip! Will have to give it a try!
The pictures don't do this house justice. It's an amazing property overall. The house is gorgeous; there's wood throughout, the decor is perfect and the owners have left no stone unturned. If you're looking for a great getaway where everything is thought out this is the one. I was there for my 40th birthday and a lot of family. 8 of us fit comfortably with room to spare. The grocery store is less than 15 minutes away. Asheville is probably around 30-35 mins tops, Chimney Rock is 25 mis away and the Biltmore is about 30-35 mins as well. It's a good location overall. We felt safe. We saw 3 deer 20 feet away too. I can't say enough good things. The theatre room is incredibly cool too. I never dreamt we'd use it but did because it was so unique. Lastly the game room was great for the kids and adults. There's foosball, air hockey ( a real table too) and darts.
Thanks Joe! We are so glad you enjoyed yourself! We strive to cover all bases! Please come back again!
