Our vacation rental is located walking distance (few blocks) to South Congress Ave (SOCO),
a hip strip that features an array of eclectic shops, restaurants, bars, boutiques, antiques, music venues and galleries. Every first Thursday of the month, stores remain open until 10pm.
Years ago when people talked about Austin they would quickly mention the music. But that's just the beginning of what they're saying these days. Austin is also home to a wonderful ballet, world-class museums, one-of-a-kind shopping and beautiful outdoor spaces. You can just as easily spend your morning paddling the lake as you can strolling through a celebrated history museum. And it's okay if you don't have time to fit it all in, you can just come back and visit us again.
South Congress Avenue and South Lamar Boulevard deliver offbeat shopping and dining and legendary live music haunts including the Broken Spoke, the last of the true Texas dance halls, the legendary Continental Club and the Saxon Pub. First Thursdays on South Congress offer a pedestrian-friendly atmosphere that brings the musicians to the street and shopping late into the evening where funky galleries, vintage shops, clothing and furniture stores, jewelry shops and salons stay open until 10:00pm (or later). South congress is Austin’s SoHo, eclectic and fun.
On South Congress Avenue, two to three blocks are filled with a diverse selection of quirky shops featuring everything from ’50s-style furniture to folk art. Boot shops, galleries, antiques and other curiosities fill quaint boutiques. In between the shops, visitors will find a wide variety of culinary delights.
There’s no place quite like South Austin, a wonderful hodgepodge of eclectic storefronts, people, architecture and sheer funk.
And South First Street, a busy thoroughfare that is a straight shot from downtown, provides a taste of that über-cool scene, from the automotive shops and art galleries housed in tiny cottages to the restaurants and day spas. We like to park, walk, and take it all in.
South First has blossomed into a very diverse restaurant row, with places like Sway, Elizabeth Street Cafe, and Lenoir.
Other fun activities in Travis Heights:
Travis Heights has two community pools that are absolutely free to use and are a very popular place on the weekends in the summer. Both are located at the center of the neighborhood, so they’re convenient for nearly every resident.
1. Located in Big Stacy Park at 700 East Live Oak St, Stacy Pool is the pool you go to when you want to swim laps. Most of the pool is set up for lane swim, so its the perfect place to get some exercise. There are a few parking spots right near the entrance to the pool, but your best bet would be to park on the street.
2. If you’re looking to hang out in the pool and lounge, Little Stacy Wading Pool is more your style. Located at 1400 Alameda Drive, Little Stacy Park is a popular hang out during the summer. Little Stacy Park also has volleyball, open green space and is the perfect place to spend a summer day.
You can walk everywhere, but you can also catch a Uber ride for $5 or a $10 Uber ride for downtown (Uber is a fantastic app, fast and cheap)
Places you might want to check out!
1.Hotel San Jose bar
1316 S Congress Ave
This private, understated patio par sits in the hotel grounds. Frequented by the creative, artistic types seeking asylum from the Texas heat, the bar serves a small but fine selection of beer, wine and sake, as well as quite possibly the most refreshing sangria in town. Hotelier Liz Lambert (of the Bunkhouse Group) is behind the minimalistic south-western design accented with desert plants, vibrant red glassware, and a consistently killer soundtrack.
2. Continental Club
1315 S Congress Ave
Some great band is always on stage, the drinks are good, and its always a very diverse crowd.
3. Crow Bar
3116 S Congress Ave
Awesome outdoor seating, delicious beverages and a food truck outside.
4. Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop
1905 S 1st St
Sugar Mama's Bakeshop DEFINITELY lives up to the hype!!! Not only are the cupcakes and macarons amazing, but the service is fantastic, and the entire shop is adorable.
5. Home Slice Pizza
1415 S Congress St
Home Slice Pizza is an independent neighborhood pizza joint serving authentic NY-style pizza—by the pie or by the slice. They offer homemade, hand tossed, bona fide pies for either dine in or carry out.
6. Torchy’s Tacos
1311 S 1st St
Torchy's is a must visit anytime you are in Austin.
7. Barley Swine
2024 S Lamar Blvd
Barley Swine is one of my favorite restaurant in Austin!
8. Odd Duck
1201 South Lamar Boulevard
The food is mostly perfect, the Moscow mule is delicious and the wait staff is great!
1417 S 1st St
Sleek, modern, lively and tasty food
Sway is one of Austin's hottest restaurants.
10.Elizabeth Street cafe
1501 S 1st St
An upscale little place, serving a classic Vietnamese menu – think báhn mì, vermicelli bowls, steamed buns, and pho, plus Vietnamese coffee and French bakery items – made largely with locally sourced ingredients, including pastured meats and eggs and organic produce from area farms.
Another of my favorite spot in Austin!
11. Hopdoddy Burger Bar
1400 S. Congress
This hugely successful "crafted" hamburger restaurant boasts premium ingredients and inventive flavor combinations. With unforgettable burgers, including tuna, lamb, bison, and vegetarian, as well as several Angus beef burgers, Hopdoddy also features an impressive selection of locally brewed, small-batch beers and ales
1807 S. First
With its spectacular, category-defying cuisine, picture-perfect plate presentation, an expertly selected wine list, superb service, and cozy shabby-chic aesthetic, Lenoir is living proof that Austin has arrived in the culinary big leagues.
1400 S. Congress
It's hard to beat Perla's on a sunny afternoon for fresh oysters, grilled octopus, and a Caesar cocktail on the shady patio – although I still miss the marvelous shrimp escabeche they used to serve. The wine list is full of amazing gems, but prices lean toward the high end.

I am French Canadian, I traveled the world and love to make people feel like home! I moved to the Austin area in 2012 from Seattle and I absolutely love the Texas sunshine. My favorite travel destination was Anguilla for the beaches, the people and how relax life was out there! I am a big fan of healthy food, fitness and having a healthy lifestyle for myself and my family. I am also a blogger about health, nutrition and fitness: drfitfrenchy As a host, I will always do my best to respond to your request and make you the happiest guest! I do not live on premises, I am on a ranch North of the city, but you can reach me anytime. Bon Voyage!

A great stay for the price! Near all of the greatest in Austin!
This was our second stop on our road trip through Texas after a work conference and we thought this was a perfect spot in the middle of everything and near Congress and downtown Austin. The space can easily sleep 8 and spacious for our 5, as there is three queen beds, with a futon and sofa in the living space, and the beds were comfortable and good to sleep on. Basic amenities were offered including coffee and basic toiletries, with the water pressure being great in the morning. Reading the other comments, I do agree with the slow drain and yard upkeep, and needs some basic updating--which is normal for a rental. But i will say, you truly can not beat it for the price in the prime area of Austin. Eve was great in emailing us with all info and was very timely as well. When visiting Austin, check out downtown, South Congress and South 1st street districts, incredible restaurants (hit up South Congress cafe and El Primo tacos on South 1st) and bakeries, great local shopping and the people are incredibly friendly to visitors. An HEB was nearby for any basics you may need too. Overall, a great pick for anyone who is looking for a value based, friends or family stay in Austin. We will definitely be back to the city for sure! Enjoy the trip!
This location provided perfect access to the airport and all of the great spots on 1st and South Congress. We spent alot of time looking at homes in the northern suburbs, but had enough time to go to the Barton Springs Pool, kayaking with the bats through Live, Love, Paddle and eat at Hopdoddy, Home Slice Pizza, Torchy's, Ironworks, Farm to Fork and More! Great week and we will be relocating permanently in May!
This apartment was right near S. Congress St in a family neighborhood so it was nice and quiet during the daytime and night, but you're still super close to central Austin! Downtown is a very walkable distant as well. We fit 4 people comfortably, the apartment was nice and clean, though having just one bathroom was a little tricky (but that's up to your booking preference.) The sink and toilet drainage is a little weak but the shower head water pressure was great. The bedroom beds were very comfy! We did try to iron the shirt but I don't think the iron is working any longer. We liked that they have a storage unit so you can leave your luggage there if you arrive early (before check in time) or have a later flight (and still want to wander the city during the day w/o lugging your suitcase around.)
Great location! Right price! Easy to rent!
Unit B was mostly as expected-just PERFECT for my needs for a short vacation with my son. LOVED THE AREA. For the price, this could easily be a 5-star place (from me that is, since others felt it already is). Knocked off a star because the living room furniture really needs updating to be comfortable and housekeeping left a few things undone. I would stay there again for sure (at about the $100 price point that is)!!!
Notes: There is a H-E-B grocery/drug/“anything you can think of” store about a mile away for incidentals (e.g. milk, coffee, filters, laundry detergent, aspirin, sunscreen, beer sold until midnight, etc.). Breakfast at Curra's Grill is walking distance – walk out of driveway, go left, then right and in 3 minutes you have a great breakfast and, if you want, mimosas! I also heard they have a great avocado margarita. There is a food truck near it as well that has an excellent breakfast.
Great location and a nice clean space
This apartment met our needs perfectly! It was clean and quiet for the most part. We only heard our neighbors one night when they got home late. The apartment is in a GREAT location walking distance to South Congress. It's only a 15 minute drive to the airport too! We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this place to anyone visiting Austin.
We really enjoyed hosting you. Hope you think of us when you return to Austin again, Cheers!
This place was cute and clean and perfect for our family's visit.
Great central location where we used rideshare to easily and quickly get around to all of Austin's popular attractions. It is a two unit house and there were always other people in the other unit but we never heard them. Walk down the street to curras grill for a great authentic Mexican dinner and drink 😬 Family dollar and a gas station are also easily walkable for any essential groceries.
