Escape to a perfect Texas small town retreat in this original 1890 Smithville jewel. Gresham House was artistically restored in 2013 to include modern amenities, great, open spaces with high ceilings, tall windows and plenty of natural light. A cook’s counter top centers the kitchen, overlooking the large bar to the TV room. The joining dining room opens to a cathedral ceiling featuring original stained glass, with views and french doors opening to the magnificent oak tree. Featuring 2 beautiful bedrooms (1 King, 1 Queen) with private baths, plus 2 single sleep sofas with bedding and 1/2 bath off the TV room. Located in the heart of Smithville’s historic neighborhood and just a stroll to Main Street, enjoy antique stores, coffee shops, restaurants and the Railroad Museum while enjoying the town’s relaxed, friendly personality.
Had a wonderful stay at the Gresham House. The house has been beautifully redone with all the modern conveniences, but still managed to keep all of its historic charm and architectural elements. The town of Smithville is lovely and quaint. Within a few blocks and an easy stroll you can visit the small shops and local cafes for a true sense of small town life. Make sure and have breakfast or lunch at the Comfort Cafe (note: only opened on Friday, Saturday & Sunday). The food is great, but the story behind Comfort Cafe is even better. Ended up extending our stay (victims of the Round Top Antique Fair) and Julia was the most helpful and accommodating property manager that I have ever dealt with. Thanks again Julia for all your help - it was wonderful.

Gresham House is a beautifully restored (great modern kitchen) older home in the heart of Smithville, TX. The charm of Smithville is that it has retained that small town atmosphere with many beautiful old homes but with a active community. We were there to celebrate our golden anniversary at the nearby Red Ridge Reception venue that was a real find! Gresham house is a perfect location it was so convenient. The house is very roomy and extremely comfortable. You can enjoy the peace and quiet of the 'front room', if you want to read, or enjoy the large screen television off of the kitchen in the sun room. I love lots of light and this house really has that. They have worked hard to create a lovely home and yard to enjoy. The kitchen and breakfast area are so open you can enjoy all the nature around you. We watched squirrels running back and forth between yards and trees, as well as mockingbirds working hard to build their nest. It was a great choice for us.
This was our second visit to the Gresham House, and again we loved it. The House is small enough for easy accessibility to all the rooms, but big enough to spread out. When you stay here, you feel like you are home. This will be our go to place in Smithville!
Don't forget Honey's Pizza. Delicious Neapolitan pizza, friendly service. The best restaurant in Smithville.
We stayed at this beautiful home to celebrate my Mom's 77th birthday.
It was a convenient location for our tour of the "Painted Churches" based out of Schulenburg, TX (a quick 30-45 min from Smithville). The enormous old oak trees and rolling hills of the surrounding countryside provide for incredible scenery along the way.
The beds at Gresham House were very comfortable, the house is roomy, and the kitchen is well stocked.
Definitely check out the "Front Room" wine bar and "Comfort Cafe" - both in Smithville and within walking distance of the Gresham house.
The surrounding towns of La Grange and Round Top are great stops along the way as well.
Thank you, Julia, for making our stay extra pleasant! Will book again at Gresham House when I bring my husband down with our motorcycles.
