About Rosalie Thomas
Don and Rosalie are both retired professionals from the Seattle area. We love SCUBA diving, sailing and skiing. Casa Calypso allows us to share our lives with our large family and fun friends. We usually spend our winters in Cozumel, and the summers sailing the beautiful waters of the Pacific Northwest.
Rosalie Thomas purchased this Villa in 2010
Why Rosalie Thomas chose Cozumel
Cozumel is safe! It's an ideal vacation spot for an active family with varied interests! The grandchildren can swim at the beach or at the pool, the adults can SCUBA, go fishing or take off for the 'wild-side' of the island, and Grandma and Grandpa can kick back on the terrace and watch it all! In the evenings, we can gather on the terrace, or head into town for a delicious restaurant meal. Whether we're walking along the malecon, or looking for a party, Cozumel is a beautiful, safe, and friendly place for all the members of our family to gather. We love it here!
What makes this Villa unique
Casa Calypso offers the unique combination of being private and outside of the tourist activities in town, but close enough that it's easy to join in at a moment's notice. We love the quite in the mornings, the easy access to diving and snorkeling, the incredible sunsets, and the breathtaking display of stars in the night sky. Truly, it can't be beat!

Lovely Beach House for a large group
We enjoyed our stay at Casa Calypso the week of March 17 - March 24. We were a family gathering of 8 adults and 2 children. There was plenty of room to spread out with each couple having their own comfortable room and bathroom. The communal area was large and the kitchen was well equipped. The view of the sea was great. The pool area and hot tub were very nice. We are not late night party people. This place has a quiet laid back vibe which was perfect for us. Filo cooked for us for breakfast and lunch which gave us time to relax and connect and not worry about coordinating meals for everyone. I do recommend you stop at the grocery stores in Cozumel. It was fun to see their produce and bakery sections.
Some things to note: There is no beach in the traditional sense. This is iron shore with areas where you can make your way into the water. There is no beach walking from this location. If you have a car or other transportation you can go to a traditional beach. You will need transportation of some sort to get to town, other beaches and attractions. We rented cars from Quatro Amigos and that worked out very well.
My wife & I, along with my son (34) his wife, my daughter (29) & her husband spent a week together @ Casa Calypso. I was trying to have us together as a family & at the same time maintain the need for privacy. This home allowed for the best of privacy, yet we were all together. It was perfect for our needs. The home is absolutely beautiful & had everything we could possibly need. Thank You Rosalie, you were the perfect host.
Wonderful First Visit to Cozumel!
Beautiful, spacious home with gorgeous front-row view of water! Our family of 7 was able to spread out in the 4 bedrooms with 4 private baths. Beds were comfy kings (2 queens in one of the bedroms) and bath and beach towels provided were fluffy and high quality.
Kitchen was well equipped and we took advantage of the chef service with Filo for 3 dinners and 3 breakfasts. He had delicious fajitas and margaritas ready for us our first night. Fabulous chips and quacamole! For the next morning, he had the coffee pot set to go and arrived shortly after to fix bacon and pancakes. Daughter who is gluten-free enjoyed an egg. A blessing as we hadn't made a trip to the grocery in town yet. When we weren't able to find fresh mango at the store, he brought some the next day! Combined Filo's meals with dinner out at the excellent restaurants downtown. Also cooked a few breakfasts ourselves once we settled in.
Enjoyed snorkeling time at the Money Bar and highly recommend Edventure Tours on the mainland for a day at Tulum, ziplining, and snorkeling with the turtles. (Took the ferry over.) Also spent a day at light house at Punta Sur at south end. Look for the road side stand on the main highway just south of Casa Calypso that sells fresh coconut milk. Yum!
Shopping in town was fun. Particularly liked Los Cinco Soles for quality local items that are reasonably priced. Next visit though may spend more time just relaxing at the beautiful condo pool and hot tub or on lounge chairs on the sand just in front of Casa.
Definitely needed 2 rental cars for our little crowd for touring the island. Also went back and forth to town and grocery at least once a day or more. Watch out for congestion around cruise ship piers, particularly end of day/dinner time when taxis are dropping off passengers. Next time will take a large taxi van with all our luggage to the Casa and pick up our rental cars the next day when we're not so tired. (We rented one air conditioned from Your Cozumel and a VW convertible from Rentadora Isis. Very pleased with both.) Guys at condo gate were really helpful in getting our luggage to and from the Casa on their golf cart. They also called a large taxi when we were finally heading to the airport and home to the cold north. Brrr!
Hi Dick and Fran, You really took advantage of all the activities and amenities at Casa Calypso! Good for you--and happy to hear you enjoyed it! We loved having you as guests! While there are still a lot of things for you to do and explore on the island, you deserve to kick back and relax next time! See you then! Rosalie and Don
Plenty of space for 12
We shared the house for a group of 8 adults and 4 kids (7-12) and had plenty of space. The overall property is well maintained, the beach cleaned daily, plants/trees/grass well taken care of.
House appliances are starting to show constant use dishwasher, dryer, and fridge are in various stages of disrepair but work. The gas grill is ready to fall apart.
Great views and great location! Go to Punta Sur eco park for outstanding sandy beach! Snorkeling was great just at the end of the pier at the property.
We did the Chef for the week and liked it, but seemed like the same variation over and over. He didn't want to give us ideas of what to make. His pico de gallo was fabulous. Local grocery store had great variety and good prices as an alternative. We rented cars from management without problem or hassel.
Pesos saved you money on taxi and places without automatic conversion to usd. The grocery store converted to usd and posted it's rate when you walked in.
We would stay here again anytime!
Hi Rob, You'll be happy to know that the new frig is in, and the new grill is on the way! Thanks for helping us stay on top of things! We're glad you liked the house, the setting and that spectacular view. Hope to be able to welcome you again at Casa Calypso. Rosalie and Don
We loved Casa Calypso!
Casa Calypso easily accomodated 8 adults and 3 children. The beach and views of the water are wonderful. The owners were very helpful as were the managers (Patti, Rodrigo and Amber). We did not arrive until late and they had ordered and had hot burritos waiting for us! It was wonderful. Whatever needs we had, they responded to very quickly. The property is quite private and feels very safe. Casa Calypso was everything we could have wanted for our Cozumel vacation.
Hi Barbara, We're always pleased to hear that our guests are warmly welcomed, and feel safe and well taken care of! Sounds like those burritos hit the spot! We're looking forward to having you back again soon! Rosalie and Don
Absolutely perfect! THE best place to bring a family with children of all ages
This house was absolutely perfect. It was just amazing. It is located in a gated community with an attendant at the entrance who was always very helpful, and very friendly. The location of this house in the compound was perfect; right on the far left side of the waterfront, so we only had neighbors on one side, and the beach all to ourselves. The pool was on the other side of the beachfront, so I felt very safe letting my little girls outside to play, and didn't have to worry about them getting to close to the water or falling in. The house had a cleaning service that refreshed the house on a schedule that we had set, and they did a wonderful and very thorough job every time. It was very spacious, much larger in person than I had expected from the pictures and all of the furniture and finishes in the house were beautiful. I was soo impressed with the additional features that they had available to us; two pack and play cribs for my baby to use, pool toys, beach toys, flippers to use in the water, tons of towels, plenty of dishes and serve ware to use for a large group of people. The beach was clean, with tons of chairs and the lagoon was one of our favorite parts. it was shallow enough for our little girls to safely play in, and learn to snorkel and enjoy, it was always full of fish and interesting things to see. The concierege service that came with the house rental was just superb. Anything we could dream up they were able to facilitate for us. Fishing, discounts at the major theme parks nearby, tips on sunburn creams, you name it, they could help us with it! Overall this was absolutely THE best place to take our family for the vacation of our dreams. It was safe, clean, private, friendly and made it easy to have little babies wander and play and explore in a safe and controlled atmosphere. I've recommended it to every person I've seen since we've been home. Thank you so much for having us. I couldn't have made it a more perfect trip for my family.
Thanks, Kim, for this wonderful review! We're so pleased that you found everything to your liking, plus safe and fun for your whole family. We loved having you there, and hope to see you again at Casa Calypso. Say hello to the rest of your family for us. Rosalie and Don
Casa Calypso, named for the famous dive vessel of Jacques Cousteau, is located right next to the incredible reefs that he made famous. World-class SUCBA diving and snorkeling are right out the front door! The private 135 foot pier provides easy access to the spectacular Santa Rosa Wall, the towering bolones of Palancar Gardens, and the many other sites that make Cozumel the #1 dive destination in Mexico.
