The three best things that this upper west side apartment has going for it is location, location and location. Not much else except its lower than other NYC rentals price. It is on a relatively quiet street, close to Central Park. The upper west side of Manhattan is a fantastic area to stay. It is easy to get around the city from its location. The neighborhood itself is inviting for exploration. However it is in an old building that is marginally kept up and maintained. If you are open minded about staying in a place with lots of quirks and bare bones furnishings, you will be happy here. There is a moderately comfortable bed and couch, inconsistent hot water and wi-fi, but enough air conditioning and heat - both were needed during my one week stay in weather fickle late April. One must be in good physical shape to get on well here because it is on the fourth floor of a five story walk-up. There is no place to put a suitcase except the floor. There are closets with hangers though and rickety a table and chairs. The tilting stairway and crooked floors set the tone. That being said, the business aspect of renting this apartment went well. Dov was adequately communicative and there were no problems with the VRBO experience. If your priority is to have an upper west side home base while in NYC for a reasonable price and you do not require upscale amenities, then this apartment will do.
We like the location , because of nearness to the Central Park and downtown.
What we don' t like is the dilapidated apartment.
We stayed there for 8 nights and we had a very good time. The apartment was equipped with everything you need for your holidays vacations. Excellent location in a very nice neighborhood and the subway it's right on the corner. Quick responds of the owner by email too. Although, the bathroom has a tube right in front of the toilet and that's uncomfortable for a tall man like me, but it's manageable. Also the last 3 days the signal of the Internet went very slow so we could't use some apps of our smartphones. Anyway, overall everything was quite good and we enjoyed our staying there. I would come back.
I used to live in New York and I've seen a lot of rental apartments. This apartment was very nice for a rental and had a great layout for our needs. It is not a luxury place and is up 3 flights of stairs but I was very happy with it. There was a nice large bedroom, the living room was in a separate room with a door, and there was a small dining area/entrance foyer. We were able to have our children sleeping in the living room but still have access to the rest of the apartment. The air conditioning worked well in both rooms, the WiFi was good (get the password from the modem in the bedroom) and everything was clean and well stocked. The only drawback was that the pull out couch was very lumpy and uncomfortable. Our elementary aged children were able to sleep on it but adults wouldn't want to.
The apartment is on a quiet street but close to 2 subway lines and the cross town bus so it is easy to get anywhere else in the city. Staying here can give you a great experience of what it is like to live in New York City.
