Overview

About the property

Gorgeous artist's studio; easy downhill walk to town; full of light

A wall of windows with a view overlooking the town greets your eyes upon walking in. The view is to die for. There is a 40 foot covered terrace outside the living/dining room. The house has a loft-like spaciousness. A generous artist's studio has the same staggering view. The master bedroom overlooks a garden and hot tub. There is a bathroom and dressing room. All on one level. Downstairs has two large, cheerful bedrooms, each with a bathroom.

This is a comfortable, homey, beautiful house, not a fancy show place.

Did I mention the hot tub? It's a very big one. Wonderful to be in.

There's a garage with electric doors.

Two lovely people - maid and gardener - come twice a week.

House sleeps 2 to 6.

About mamie spiegel

My husband and I are both artists. I work in a clay studio nearby, he works here in the studio. We have been spending the winter months in SMA for 18 years. In the summer months, we live in Woodstock, NY. My daughter, her Mexican husband, and my two grandchildren live in SMA.

My husband loves to fix up houses. He has put in purified water, renovated the bathrooms, and so much else to make the house a comfortable, happy place.

Why mamie spiegel chose Zona Centro

The view, which is incredible, and the fact that it's perfect for two older people, because all the action is on one floor. No stairs to deal with. And it's beautiful.

Plus the location, because getting to Centro is an easy, downhill walk, and it's easy to get a taxi home, and there's a bus route too.

What makes this house unique

The generous hot tub, lots of fun to use.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Myself, and 4 women friends, stayed at Mamie's home in San Miguel for 6 days. This home has a wow factor, and it is the VIEW and the large balcony! It looked even better than the photos and the house is fantastic. Well maintained, clean, and with comfortable furniture, including the beds, and all the necessary extras are provided (from the 2 coffee pots to saran wrap in the kitchen). Some of the little extras we enjoyed were the music cd's, candles, art, books and beautiful serving dishes. Oh, and lets not forget the large hot tub. It wasn't hot enough when we arrived but with one phone call (to her local property manger) and in 20 minutes, a very nice fellow showed up to turn it up and show me the workings. It was great to sit outside in the cool evening with a glass of wine and enjoy the sunset. The hot tub is right off the master bedroom, so we even popped in first thing in the morning with coffee. The housekeeper came twice and washed and folded all our laundry, what a treat. We felt very safe in the home and in the area of town. In fact all of San Miguel felt safe, we never had any problem at all. The citizens of San Migulel are charming. The house is at the top of a hill, in an exclusive and relatively quiet neighborhood. I say relatively because there are fireworks and a few distant dogs, its part of the ambiance, so you just have to relax into it. Its very easy and inexpensive to get a cab ($3-4US) if you don't want to walk to centro. We walked more than a few times up and down. We ranged in age from 50-60, mostly in good shape. Also the buses are on the next street (you don't hear them at all from the house). Mamie provided a notebook full of useful information, restaurant recommendations and phone numbers that came in handy. She was prompt and patient with my many questions prior to our visit, a great hostess. Don't miss the pastries at Cumpanio. We also recommend breakfast at Mama Mia's, dinner at Hecho en Mexico and evening sunset drinks at the Rosewood rooftop bar. Also be sure to take the historic walking tour and the Home and Garden Tour. We did not want to leave. Thank you Mamie, for sharing your lovely home with us. I can't wait to come back. We highly recommend that you stay at this beautiful home.

Stunning!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home! It is clean, comfortable, beautifully furnished and the view has to be seen to be believed. Marta, as well as the other staff at the property are efficient and prompt. We enjoyed coffee on the terrace in the morning and spent evenings in the hot tub. Perfect vacation! Thank you Mamie!

Our Week at the Day of the Dead

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Casa Gloria. Each morning we sat on the terrace overlooking the city, cup of coffee, watching hot air balloons! Although the walk to and from the centro was a hike, we enjoyed the walk and the exercise (yes, we could have taken public transportation). The house was very clean, equipped with everything we needed, including a hot tub under the stars. We enjoyed the Dio de los Muertos celebration in San Miguel and Guanajuato, the Taco and Tequila Tour, and a cooking class from MariLau. We also joined the House and Garden tour from the Biblioteca, the talk on family alters at the Mask Museum, the History Walking Tour, and the cemetery tour on the night of Nov. 2. It was a great trip and this house made it very convenient and comfortable!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you, Mary, for such a nice review. I'm particularly happy that you mentioned taking the Historical Walking Tour, the one that leaves MWF from the Parroquia, and whose proceeds go to Patronato Pro Niños. I'm a tour guide myself. I think EVERYBODY should take the tour. It sounds like you had a rich and eventful experience. So glad you liked the town, the house, and the lovely hot tub! Best - Mamie

Beautiful property

  • 4 of 5

We lived in this beautiful home for 6 weeks. The terrace and the view make the home magnificent. The house and grounds were immaculate and the housekeeper, Marta, outstanding. Walk into town down the steps very easy. Taxis are familiar with the street for returning to house. Would recommend to friends. Larry

Owner's Response: Hi Larry - Thanks for your lovely review! Just wondering why only 4 stars instead of 5: makes a big difference, for us. But I'm glad you enjoyed your stay, and hope you come back next year. Best - Mamie
