PLEASE NOTE: In 2018, we are limiting the total amount of rental time to two weeks in the summer.

Experience a historic residence blended with modern amenities and contemporary style. Located on 10.6 acres with scenic views, this property is less than 10 minutes to Great Barrington and within 30 minutes to all of the Southern Berkshires major natural and cultural attractions.

This is a happy and bright house with many beautiful, original windows and architectural details throughout.

There is a large eat-in kitchen that was completely renovated in 2016. It has a large fireplace, 6-burner, two-oven Wolf gas stove and microwave, Sub-Zero refrigerator, Miele dish washer and fully stocked with cooking tools. A full size LG washer/dryer is located in the basement and a compact w/d is located on the main floor.

In some of the downstairs rooms, the ceiling beams have been exposed and the wood trim has been stripped, which creates a unique and warm ambiance throughout. The large dining room features original 24-inch floorboards and a fireplace. The living room has a huge stone fireplace and super comfortable oversized furniture. The family room has a fireplace, pull-out leather sofa, game table and a 52-inch smart TV. Additionally, there is a small library with a fireplace.

The main house has central air conditioning. In most of the downstairs rooms, there is a SONOS wireless sound system.

Above the stables is a large loft bedroom with exposed beams and a simple, but new, bathroom.

It is a pleasure to walk through the aged stone walls and terraced gardens around the property. Outside of the kitchen is a stone patio laden with moss and covered by a pergola, which is the perfect place to dine "al fresco" while looking up to the gardens and field.

Away from the house, past the terraced gardens, is a 50 x 20 foot pool in total privacy as it is completely surrounded by mature juniper hedges.

Take a short hike on a mowed pathway through the field bursting with wildflowers. Upon arrival at the top of the hill, there are Adirondack chairs waiting for you to enjoy the spectacular views of the Berkshire hills and three states. It is the perfect spot for a morning coffee or pre-dinner cocktail while watching the sun set!

Complementing the house's historical features are contemporary artworks by artists James Rosenquist, Sarah Anne Johnson, Leslie Dill, Trisha Brown, Markus Lupertz, Liset Castillo, Jia Aili, Pat Speir and John Yau, Jurgen Partenheimer and others.

The Town of Monterey is a gem! It boasts three lakes (two public), Beartown State Forest, one of the most charming general stores anywhere, part of the Appalacian Trail and other hiking spots, and farms offering cheeses, honey, baked goods and vegetables. While it feels far away from civilization, it is only minutes to Great Barrington and more than 50 restaurants.

About Mark Sena and Linda Saul-Sena

We primarily live in Florida, but our family has ties to New England. In 2013, after a seven-year search for a "magical" property that had the five features we wanted -- a distinctive architectural style, more than 10 acres, mountain views, a water feature and within 20 minutes to most of our favorite Berkshires places -- we bought Windfall Hill.

During our lives, we have been involved in community building, preservation and the arts, which explains our love of the Berkshires and The Stone House.

Originally built in 1740, then expanded in 1835 and renovated/improved since then, the property is known by Monterey residents as "the Stone House." It is an excellent architectural example of a time gone by, but has been sensitively updated and renovated to a comfortable, gracious and beautiful standard that makes it the perfect Berkshires get-away.

Beautiful home, grounds, pool and location.

Charming property and host. As first-time HomeAway guests, our expectations were exceeded by the entire package. Beautifully appointed and landscaped, magnificent pool, brand-new kitchen with every amenity (including ice-cream maker!) conceivable. Close enough to Great Barrington to make shopping, dining, movies, etc., convenient but far enough away to feel somewhat remote. (Note: we hesitate to recommend too highly, as we don't want more competition to rent the property again in the future!)

A beautiful week in the country.

I spent a week in this beautiful house in August. The Senas were very accommodating and took great care in making sure I was taken care of before and during my stay.

The house is laid out wonderfully; I felt as though I was being whisked away to the European countryside while staying there. It was clean, well maintained, and the pool was beautiful. It was a quick drive into town where we had a charming dinner, and the property is not far from some great trails; the weather happened to be perfect for hiking while we stayed.

I look forward to staying here in summers to come, and could not recommend this house more!

Spacious by cozy!

Stayed at this property for a weekend get away in February and have nothing but great things to report. The house is quite large but manages to feel cozy at the same time! This is due in large part to the unique and beautiful furnishings. Great kitchen to cook in, beds are comfortable and expansive grounds. Highly recommended!
