What a wonderful place! My husband and I, along with a teen and a twenty-something daughters, and son and daughter-in-law, spent last week there, and we all had a lovely stay.

It was so handy to have two rooms with tables and chairs on the main floor: we left games and our laptops set up on the table in the parlor, and still had a dedicated space for a nice sit-down dinner every evening in the dining room. We all enjoyed having large, open communal spaces (living room, parlor, dining room, kitchen) for spending lots of time together -- and the three nice bedrooms gave everyone a private space to retreat to, when all that raucous family togetherness got to be a bit much :)

There is a comfy couch on the front porch, and a nice-sized patio with grill and fire pit in the back yard, and the weather in Salida in August was perfect for hanging out, outdoors. The little lockable shed in the back was just the right size for the fatbike our son had brought on the trip -- and one night, we even fit a tandem bike we rented from Absolute Bikes in there as well!

Salida is one of our favorite towns for vacation time -- well-situated for a brief drive to summertime mountain fun (Great Sand Dunes, Collegiate Peaks, hiking, rafting, cycling), and there are plenty of things to do on foot or by bike in town.

This house is well-located for taking advantage of all the town has to offer, too. Downtown is a few blocks away, as is a supermarket, excellent bakery, burrito spot, a distillery (!), several brewery/pizza joints, and my favorite yarn/fabric store in America (Fringe).

Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

My wife, my two young daughters and I stayed in Salida at this charming and very comfortable house in August. We have stayed in over a dozen VRBO properties and this was one of the best - excellent location for walking to town and parks, well equipped and furnished, and trouble free. Salida is Colorado's best kept secret, and this house is the perfect family base for enjoying it.

A very good vacation bargain, overall

  • 4 of 5

The home is attractive, well located, and clean, although smelled of strong cleaning chemicals when we arrived. As we were ther for a three-day cycling event, the location was perfect, being right on the criterium course. Two complaints: the upstairs bedrooms were very hot, as the house does not have air conditioning, just small, noisy, inadequate window fans. The kitchen was poorly equipped for cooking with no large pot for rice or pasta (cyclist essential), no large lidded sauce pan, and nothing decent for eggs or pancakes. With those caveats, we would recommend this nicely appointed older home. One more thing, the old bathtub/shower is dangerous without any grab bar to help exit-entry.

Great place close to the river and trails

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time in Salida and the House was perfect for our stay. The house has a quirky layout but did not lessen our enjoyment. The house has a great shared spaces and a great front porch and rear yard. The shed for outdoor equipment was super handy.

Check-in and check out were a little confusing but we managed OK and would recommend this house to anyone looking to stay in Salida walking distance to town and all the restaurants.
