Acadia National Park: Acadia National Park: In 1913, President Woodrow Wilson set aside 6000 acres (within what is now Acadia National Park) as Sieur de Monts National Monument. With the acquisition of more land and private support and funding, in 1919 President Wilson signed an act establishing Lafayette National Park. In 1929 the parks name was changed to Acadia. Acadia National Park was established to protect the area's spectacular scenic values, Maine's rock bound coast, its coastal and its offshore islands as characterized by the geologic features, natural history and the native plant and animal life. Forty five miles of rustic carriage roads weave around the mountains and through the valleys of Acadia National Park, the gift of philanthropist John D Rockefeller, Jr., and family. Rockefeller, a skilled horseman, desired to travel on motor free byways via horse and carriage into the heart of Mount Desert Island. His efforts resulted in roads with sweeping vistas and close up views of the landscape.

Cadalic Mountain: Cadillac Mountain: At 1,530 feet, Cadillac Mountain is not only the tallest mountain in Acadia National Park, but also the tallest mountain along the eastern coast of the United States. Rising high above the town of Bar Harbor, Cadillac Mountain offers magnificent views of the Porcupine Islands and Frenchman Bay. Explore the summit of this granite mountain along a .3-mile trail, which includes wayside exhibits about natural and human history. Portions of this trail are accessible to wheelchair users. Cadillac Mountain is accessible via a winding, narrow, 3.5-mile road. The road is closed from December 1 through April 14 and whenever weather conditions (e.g., dense fog or ice) require.

Absolutely Amazing!

Best vacation getaway! The cottage is even better than the pictures! Remote, quiet, clean, beautiful! It's the perfect place to go to get away for all they stress of normal life. The owners are amazing and very friendly! The cottage is on the most beautiful lake, and the cottage is clean, big and in a great location! Close enough to everything you need, yet far away from it all! Couldn't have asked for a better vacation and already planning our next vacation there! I would highly recommend this place to any nature lover! Great vacation spot for any couple or family! Thanks again for the wonderful vacation Josh & Erica! See you fall 2016!

Great place to stay.

  • 4 of 5

We rented this property because we were attending a family wedding at the end of the week. Overall, the property met all of our needs. With four adults and six children, we had what we needed. The space inside was a little crowded for the numbers we had but the yard and lake were great. The owner was exceptional in his welcoming and response to issues. The place was clean and ready for us to move in.

Wonderful!!!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Chemo Lake!! It was quiet and peaceful and friendly ... everything we wished for for our vacation. We kayaked and fished and enjoyed the view and relaxation from the deck.

We were impressed with the quality of the furnishings and appliances. We were happy with the quality of the dishware and the cutlery. It was a pleasant surprise to find not plasticware but glassware and ceramic dishes...enough for at least twelve settings of plates, bowls, glasses, cups, forks, knives and spoons. There is also everything you could ever wish for with regard to cooking and baking and frying anything. You will find quality laundry facilities, refrigerator, stove, microwave, cabinets and kitchen sink.

On the lower level, (basement) there is a bedroom with a television and full-sized bed with a door to the outside and a window-view of the lake. There is also a room with two bunkbeds and a full bathroom with a bathtub and shower.

On the first floor, you will find a fully applianced kitchen with a stove, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator with ice and water and anything else you could wish for, as well as a living room with a television and a pond-view dining room/den which contains a couch, dining room table and wood stove. There is also a washroom containing the stackable washer and dryer as well as a toilet and sink. Of course there is also the deck which is just outside the dining room/den. The deck has a lovely view of the dock and water but is shaded for much of the day.

On the second floor there is a sizeable loft with a full-sized bed and a 1-3/4 bathroom.

The neighbors were friendly but not intrusive. The pond was perfect for kayaking; the deck was perfect for relaxing and enjoying the view.

We have absolutely no complaints and hope to return again next summer for more than one week.

Wonderful Place for a Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

We had such a great time here on Chemo Pond. The house had just about everything we needed and plenty of space for 9 adults. The view was great and the atmosphere on the lake very relaxing. We especially liked the free wifi and all of the water toys! The canoe and kayak(s) were fun to use. The owners were very nice and helpful and available when we needed them. The nearest big box store (walmart) is about a 20 min drive away so plan accordingly. There is a convenience store close by for last minute items. We had 2 young children with us as well and there are some steep stairways in this cottage. It wasn't a problem for us, just something to be aware of. We also enjoyed going to Acadia National Park several times, it is just beautiful and there is a lot to do. The park ranger station is very informative. We all enjoyed the rural relaxing setting of this cottage. We stayed here in May and the price/value was excellent. We hope to return one day soon!
