A Cozy Cottage on a Peaceful Private Pond

Bedrooms 1
Space 560 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 7 - 30 nights

About the property

Perfect place for a private couple's retreat yet still close to everything.

Looking for the perfect spot for a quiet couple's retreat? Spend the day swinging gently in your hammock with a great book, kayak out to your favorite fishing spot, take a quick drive to one of many Cape Cod beaches or take your bikes out for a ride on the Cape Cod Canal. At the end of your day, fire up the grill or find a great place to eat out. Whether fancy or casual is your style, you'll find some of the best restaurants within a very quick drive. As the sun sets, fire up the massive outdoor stone fireplace and snuggle up while toasting marshmallows and watching the sun set over the pond. And finally, drift off to peaceful sleep, waking recharged and refreshed to do it all again.

Blackmore Pond is known for being one of the cleanest ponds in Massachusetts. It is well cared for by private association who rigorously tests water to maintain the strictest purity standards for swimmers. You will be assured a quiet experience as motors larger than 4.5 hp are prohibited. The pond is well stocked with large mouth bass for the avid fisherman, and plenty of songbirds and turtles for the casual nature observer.

Wooded walking trails are nearby, great shopping is 5 minutes away at Wareham Crossing, or go-carts, mini-golf and Water Wizz within a fifteen minute drive. Cape Cod Canal is just 20 minutes away, and all that Cape Cod has to offer just beyond that. Do it all, or do nothing. It's your choice!

To help you enjoy your stay, the cottage has amenities including a full galley-style kitchen complete with full-size stove, fridge and dishwasher as well as coffee maker and microwave, free wifi internet, premier package cable TV, washer & dryer, the tiled bathroom features a large shower and granite countertop (towels provided), one queen size bed with fresh linens provided, as well as a sofa bed in the living area. The cottage is heated and air conditioned and has ceiling fans.

Outside amenities include an amazing outdoor stone fireplace, two kayaks and a sandy beach area with lounge chairs.

The cottage has been our little treasure and we look forward to sharing it with you!

About Ron and Karen DeSousa

We purchased the cottage in 2012 as a summer retreat, but were soon to find that we couldn't bear to leave the Pond when winter came. As fate would have it, the house next door came on the market and we decided to buy it so that we never had to leave. So now our little cottage paradise is available to share with you! We hope you love it as much as we do!

Why Ron and Karen DeSousa chose SE Massachusetts & Buzzard's Bay

Blackmore Pond is a little slice of heaven. Totally private and quiet, yet still very close to everything. It's the perfect place to get away, while still being able to go out for a night on the town! The neighborhood is made up of long time Pond residents, most of whom have had family here for generations.

What makes this cottage unique

Charming little cottage offering privacy and quiet on a pond known for it's clean clear water for swimming and it's great bass fishing. Close to Wareham Crossing shopping, historic Plymouth and the beautiful beaches of Cape Cod.

Cottage was originally built in 1920 as one of many buildings that served the summer camp. It served as the infirmary, fireplace gathering area and water sports hub. Next door is the mess hall building to one side and the camp chapel on the other. Most of the original cabins are gone, but a few are still visible in the neighborhood.

Relaxing retreat

  • 5 of 5

We found the cottage very comfortable and cozy. It is very modern and well maintained. Kitchen and bathroom are well stocked. The air-conditioning was a bonus, as the weather was very warm. The yard has a lovely seating area by the outdoor fire place. We also enjoyed sitting by the pond watching the sunset. The location of the cottage is ideal for visiting Cape Cod, Southern Massettusetts and Rhode Island.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and plan another visit to this lovely cottage in the near future.

The Perfect Cozy Little Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This little cottage was perfect for the two of us. The listing is accurate, and as you can see in the pictures t is small, but everything is new and clean and it has all of the amenities. The living room, dining room and kitchen have an open floor plan. There's a large TV; full size refrigerator, stove, dishwasher and sink; and plenty of dishes, pans and utensils in the kitchen. The bathroom has a good size shower (no tub) and plenty of towels, baskets and counter space for all your personal toiletries. The washer and dryer are a stackable unit in the hallway - but they're fairly quiet and quite functional. The bedroom has a queen bed, a dresser and a closet (with hangers). And did I mention the cottage is air conditioned? Not every place in New England has central air, so that's a big plus. There's a screened in porch with a couple of chairs - and the yard is fabulous! There are large, old pine trees that keep the yard shady for most of the day. If you're looking for sun, you need to be down by the pond (which is a beautiful area). It's a few steps from the cottage to the outdoor fireplace that has a few chairs, a table and a gas grill. A few more steps will bring you to a sandy beach area with adirondack chairs and a hammock that overlooks the pond. The pond is small, so there are no motor boats or jet skis. It's a quiet, relaxing neighborhood.

The owners are great - responsive and pleasant. We were visiting family in that area, so we weren't visiting attractions, but this location was perfect for us. It is not 'on' Cape Cod, but is pretty close to the Cape Cod Canal. It's not far to Route 195 - close to the junction of Route 495, so it's convenient to both Boston and Providence airports. There are lots of chain stores nearby including grocery and drug stores, as well as the 'mom and pop' stores and restaurants you find in small towns everywhere. If you stay - definitely find your way to Kool Kone. It's a little hole in the wall place on Route 6 with great seafood and ice cream.

We will definitely stay here again. Everything - from the owners to the cabin to the location - was great!

Perfect cottage and location

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 2 week stay at Karen and Ron's lovely cottage. The cottage was very modern---granite counters, central air, washer and dryer. Its location is perfect as you get sun most of the day, and if you had enough, there are plenty of tall pine trees to shade you. All the comforts of home were provided, and there's nothing like jumping in the provided kayaks and taking a leisure ride around the pond, since there are no motors allowed on the boats. Sitting on the shore with an early morning coffee just can't be beat. A huge benefit is that you are secluded and yet do not have to deal with all the Cape craziness. However, jump in the car and drive 10 minutes and there is shopping and restaurants. They have put a lot of work into this cottage, and you won't be disappointed.

Wonderful cozy cottage

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was perfect for our needs. We went to MA to visit family and opted to stay at this cottage instead of a hotel. This cottage was cozy, very clean and came equipped with everything you may need. Although we didn't spend too much time there during this trip, I can tell you that it's a great vacation spot, great views of the pond,

with plenty outdoor activities and a wonderful outdoor fireplace. And, the location is great, very close to Cape Cod.

You can tell that the owners (Karen and Ron) are "hands on" and they will be glad to provide anything you may need.

You will not be disappointed.
