About Richard and Ruby Franco
Ruby and I originally came across this property with other family members as we were looking for a place between Austin and Dallas where we could spend our Easters together as a large family.. We had this property for a number of years just clearing and working on the property with family and friends until one Easter when Grandpa Sanchez showed up with a shell of a building that he built in his backyard and transported up here in pieces. Ruby and I finished this building, which is now the bunkhouse. Our builder and friend Pat Small built the small kitchen and bath for us . Grandpa has since built the pavilion that we now use as well.
Richard and Ruby Franco purchased this Cabin in 2005
Why Richard and Ruby Franco chose Hillsboro
This location is perfect to meet our family for weekends together and such, since we live in Austin and Ruby's sisters and their families live in the Dallas/Ft Worth Area. They also own 3 traditional cabins in this area as well.
What makes this Cabin unique
The design of this cabin is very different from most vacation rentals as the bunkhouse is separate from the kitchen and bath, and connected by a wooden walkway. I guess what we have is more of a small campground / compound than a traditional cabin. Our Cabin /Compound is the last in a series of 4, with our cabin designed for singles, couples, or small families.

I wish I could come every weekend!
Kayaking, early in the morning and night time. Hiking, exploring with the dogs. Went to both Hillsboro and Whitney to mess around. This place is the best! It is a gem, And I feel so lucky that I get to come spend time here. Thank you!
Great close-by getaway
At first the fam was a little disappointed there was no wi-if but that was perfect because it meant family time instead of screen time. The lake was a short hike away but was way too hot to fish and too windy to kayak.
I was hesitant about the kitch/bath being separated but it worked out perfectly - I could get up early without waking everyone up so I could make coffee and breakfast.
We really enjoyed the quiet time and relaxation.
Most fun ever!
Most fun ever!
We had a great time hiking and night hiking. Kayaking at dusk was excellent we saw deer, many water birds, a whole kettle of vultures that apparently live on the powerline towers that sit in the back part of the lake.
Very fun and peaceful as well. The dogs had a great time as usual! We can’t wait to come back.
We enjoyed kayaking so much that way are going to buy our own !
Great time had by all! Thank you!
Peace and quiet!
Great weekend get away! The cabin sets in a beautiful, secluded location that we loved. Having coffee and listening to the birds is a great way to wake up. The personal touches in this cabin make it feel like a home instead of some random hotel. We loved it and will be back!
Lovwd my viait
Loved my stay anf the cute little cabin. Just right for my family!
Quiet weekend in the woods
My husband and I enjoyed our stay on your property. It was very quiet and serene. Interesting set up with bathroom in a seperate building made me not want to get up and go in the middle of the night, but was nice when I woke up early and could make coffee without waking my husband!
The hike down to the water with the kayak was a little more work than I expected, but we absolutely loved rowing around the lake. Thank you for a great weekend!
