About the property

Quintessential Cottage w/Views; 5 BR/2 BA (Sleeps 9/11 with Q Sleeper)

Fall 2017 dates available - bountiful farmers' market and wide open beaches. Now booking 2018. Comfortable, well-maintained quaint summer cottage directly on Lake Michigan, with dual waterfront access - direct Lake Michigan private beach frontage as well as access to nearby Pigeon Lake and Pigeon River waterfronts. Includes private Association tennis courts, beach front fire pits (firewood provided), beach volleyball, children's play areas, Pigeon Lake docks for fishing and a public access boat ramp for all watercraft. Ideal for extended or 2 families (not to exceed 11), Bluewater has 2 private levels, 5 BR, 2 BA and comfortably sleeps 9 (or 11 w/sleeper sofa), a living room, dining/kitchen area (fully-equipped, but no DW), deck/dining area overlooking Lake Michigan, an enclosed screened porch perfect for watching sunsets. No A/C, but lots of windows, fans and cross breezes. Three short flights of stairs lead to the base of the dune with walking boards to a private Lake Michigan beach front. An additional outdoor back patio, gas grill, Association fire rings and picnic tables at the water's edge (along with fire wood!) complete your stay.

Saturday to Saturday ONLY during Peak Summer season. Sorry, NO weddings, pets, smokers, or large noisy groups! Did we mention groups not to exceed 11?! If additional space needed for larger groups, we can recommend adorable nearby cottages that rent as well. Book early!

Please note: We are part of a tightly knit and very closely situated community of small cottages (where noise travels easily) with neighbors who enjoy this quiet beach-front setting. We are looking for guests who will be respectful of these parameters. Thank you for your understanding.

Rates inclusive of complete cleaning fee, high speed wireless internet and local phone calls, 2 cable TVs, W/D, linens/towels, beach chairs/umbrellas and numerous books, games, puzzles and toys - just bring bathing suits and groceries (and bikes for fantastic trails)! Upper level wheelchair accessible (but not full ADA accessible. . . ).

Bluewater is part of a historic private cottage association (since 1906) surrounded by unique turn-of-the-century classic cottages, rolling dunes and wooded trails, with access to Pigeon Lake, docks, newly resurfaced tennis courts, beach volleyball, superb hiking and bike trails, children's play areas, beachfront fire pits (stacks of wood provided) and picnic tables. Walking distance to Sandy Point Beach House and 15 minutes' drive to loads of other excellent dining options, breweries (New Holland, Big Lake, Odd Sides, etc.), antiques and art galleries, Holland Farmer's Market, blueberry picking and quaint shopping in nearby Holland, Grand Haven, Saugatuck and Douglas. 45 minutes to Grand Rapids dining, breweries (Founders, The Mitten, Brewery Vivant) and exceptional cultural offerings (Meijer Gardens, Grand Rapids Museum, Ford and Grand Rapids Children's Museum, etc.).

Great location in wonderful neighborhood directly on Lake Michigan

  • 5 of 5

There are few true communities in the US like Port Sheldon let alone a community with so much history and amazing views of Lake Michigan. House has a nice cottage feel to it which is a perfect fit for a house on the big lake. Communication was perfect from the time we booked all the way up to the departure instructions. Affordable price compared to other homes in the area. Would recommend to others and would stay again!

One great plus that wasn't mentioned in the Ad is the community fire pit and volleyball court on the beach right where the waves crash on the beach. Made for a great evening bonfire with family and friends.

Perfect week at the cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week at the cottage. Our family of five had plenty of room. Everything we needed was there, Kim and Eric were so helpful. If you are looking for a quiet week at a cottage, we would definitely recommend staying at Bluewater.

Great location with a beautiful view of the water and sunsets!

  • 5 of 5

We rented Bluewater to stay in while in town for a nearby wedding and enjoyed the cozy cottage immensely. The deck and screened in area were great for enjoying the weather and view and a short walk down to the beach for an afternoon in the sun was great. The only surprise was that there are no interior stairs connecting first and second floors but it wasn't a problem and could be ideal for 2 families looking for a little privacy. Thanks Kim and Eric!

Great weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

Four friends and myself stayed at Bluewater for an early fall weekend. Kim and Eric were very accommodating with fast responses to any questions. The cottage is part of an association with shared beach, beach volleyball court, rings for a campfire all on the beach. The sunsets were amazing, and even though we stayed when the days started getting shorter and weather cooler, we still had a great time on the beach. We chartered a salmon fishing trip out of Grand Haven, 15 minutes away. The cottage is in a great location - 15 minutes north to Grand Haven, 15 minutes south to Holland, both cutsey towns with lots to do, breweries, wineries, good restaurants, and both have weekend farmers markets ( the one in Holland is better but Grand Haven is good too). It is near u-pick blueberry farms too if in season. Expect a very comfortable cottage that is clean and well cared for. It is not a "luxury" house on the beach, but was everything we expected. One thing to note - and it wasn't a problem for us - is that upstairs and downstairs do not connect. You have to use outside stairwell in either the front or back. I could foresee it being an issue in incliment weather, especially if there is any mobility issues with any of the guests. It is also a lot of steps down to the beach, but that's how it is pretty much anywhere along the Lake Michigan coast. It is definitely a place I'd consider returning to. It is a good value for the price.

Wonderful property overlooking Lake Michigan

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I have made a tradition out of spending Memorial Day weekend on Lake Michigan. This year the property we have typically used was unavailable. After searching for a new property, we found this wonderful location. Kim and Eric did a great job providing necessary information to our inquiries in a very timely manner and have a beautiful property with a wonderful private beach access.

Below are comments from some of my other guests:

"Memorial Day Weekend 2016! We had so much fun! The house is lovely and the beach was perfect. An awesome weekend with friends! Thank you! Hoping to come back soon! Taylor L. and Vicki L., Indianapolis"

"Just what I needed to escape from reality for a weekend. The beach was awesome and we got lucky and had great weather almost the whole time! I definitely want to come back here. Travis W. Michigan"

"One of the best houses on the beach. Everything including the weather was awesome! Jordan B, Fort Wayne"
