The perfect weekend house!!!

  • 5 of 5

Seriously the house is perfectly set up for multiple couples and a ton of space! 1.5 bathrooms and 3 queen beds and 3 twin beds and a giant couch!? A very large family would think this place is perfect and so spacious! Nice large kitchen for cooking an awesome breakfast, lunch, or dinner!! Right around the corner from (literally walking distance)the lake! All of us couples had an amazing time, absolutely perfect lake house!! Will hopefully come and stay again for the THIRD time! Thank you thank you thank you!

A Good Not Great Place Out in the Country

  • 3 of 5

This location is for someone wanting proximity to Lake Eufala - a beautiful location in southern Oklahoma for fishing and boating. The walk to the nearest lake access is five minutes -- fantastic -- which is a public boat landing. Get good directions from Eufala: a lot of left-and-right turns from the little town to the cabin! Mapquest did its job.

The house/cabin itself: the highlight is a built-on -- a sleeper kind of screened-in porch with room for lots of sleepers! Very charming. And there is a master bedroom plus two extra bedrooms, one with a mattress on the floor. Plus a spacious living space (minimal furnishings) and small kitchen (likewise), which allows minimal cooking: pots, pans, etc are limited; so if you cook a lot plan to bring your own stuff. Lighting in the living room and breakfast room can be a little dim. Beds were not real comfortable. Wifi available, but given country location, did not work for those of us with Verizon even for 3G.

It's a place with a lot of pro's and a lot of con's, depending on your individual taste. Comfort level is so-so, as is 'charm.' But it's functional for someone just wanting a home-base. A 'run' to town is a chore but do-able. We went to visit relatives, so we had realistic expectations having lived in Oklahoma before. But to be candid, we likely would choose to spend a bit more and stay elsewhere another time. For the fisherman and boater this would be more than a solid place to call basecamp though.

Owner's Response: To potential renters of this house, I'd like to clarify a few things. There is a full kitchen of cooking equipment to do most any cooking technique you would want. I'm not sure exactly what Nan would have liked to have had on hand to do more extensive cooking techniques but rest assured the kitchen is stocked. The bed is the 3rd bedroom is a brand new IKEA platform bed, not a mattress on the floor. As far as "a run to town being a chore", I'm a bit confused because this neighborhood is one of the closest to the town of Eufaula. It really is just a 5 minute drive to town. Last time I checked we were the closest vacation rental to Eufaula.

I'm sorry, I was not impressed.

  • 3 of 5

When we arrived, the beds appeared messy, like someone had slept in them. To the owners credit, when we contacted him, he sent someone right away to fix the problem. The refrigerator was full of stuff, some outdated milk and things. We had to push them to the back to make room for our things. There were no towels out for us when we arrived but we finally found some in a closet, but then there was no place to hang the wet towels. We thought there was a washer and dryer, but there was only a washer which would have been OK if there was a clothes line, there wasn't. The kitchen was not well equipped with necessities. The pots and pans were old scratched up Teflon and when we did turn on the stove, the burners where covered in grease and smoked for quite sometime. I really hated to say anything because I don't like giving negative comments, but you kept asking me for a review.

Owner's Response: Gail, your last comment to me was "Thanks for the great service" so I'm a little surprised by this review. I am sorry the extra towels were in the hall closet, but that's the only storage area we have. Guests in the past have always enjoyed when there were extra condiments and Cokes or whatever in the refrigerator, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy that. The listing clearly states there is only a washer inside the house and no dryer. Most people stay for 2-3 days and have no need for a washer or a dryer. I will make sure the pots and pans get replaced though. That is a great idea. And I will make sure the cleaning lady scrubs the greasy burners. And just FYI for the future, HomeAway is the one sending you reminders to leave a review, not the home owners.
