Overview

Downeast and Acadia House Rental Photos and Description

4 Bedrooms, 1 1/2 Baths, Sleeps 8

Located downtown on Water Street near Eastport's historic seaport, this gracious Queen Ann home was built in 1897 in the year following the Great Fire. The house and gardens offer water views of Passamaquoddy Bay, Campobello Island and the Canadian Maritime Islands. Filled with original architectural features, hardwood floors and tin ceilings, and furnished with antiques, taxidermy and original artwork, the house evokes Eastport's golden age at the end of the 19th century.

The ground floor boasts large gracious rooms including the Front Parlor, Library, Living Room with fireplace, Dining Room and Kitchen and also opens to perennial gardens, a relaxing outdoor space to enjoy the salt air. Upstairs, 4 bedrooms host 8 guests in period style.

Downtown Eastport: A leisurely stroll takes you to Eastport's historic waterfront downtown with many interesting shops, galleries and restaurants. The Eastport Harbor is a working fishing port, and the Breakwater offers deep water fishing from the pier. The Breakwater also hosts the annual Eastport Salmon Festival and the Pirate Festival held each Summer. Visit The Tides Institute and Museum at Bank Square for a look at the history and culture of the Passamaquoddy region. The historic Peavy Library is an architectural gem with books, videos and music to lend, free WiFi and computers for public use. Continue down Sea Street to the Quoddy Bay Lobster Pound and pick up fresh local lobsters, freshly made lobster rolls, or their delicious clam and lobster chowders.

Great old house

  • 4 of 5

A great old house in a nice seaside town. Decent restaurants, friendly locals and enough in the area to keep you busy for a week.

I would rate this home excellent except for the musty smell, particularly downstairs. Linens, etc were not musty but even after a week of open windows you could not help but notice the smell upon entering the house. Upstairs was fine.

Well appointed and nicely furnished, very comfortable for a large crowd. Artwork seemed out of place but overall a very "homey" stay.

Add a couple of dehumidifiers and I would recommend this grande old girl to anyone.
