2 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom Riverfront Chalet
Kevin & Barbara Hanville
About Kevin & Barbara Hanville
Our family spent years camping. We always hoped to get one of the camp sites next to the creek at Vogel State Park so we could relax to the sounds of the rushing water. That rarely happened… As my wife and I grew older, we got tired of the walk to the communal bathroom, lousy showers, lack of privacy, and the not so great sleep in the camper. As our kids grew older, the allure of sleeping in a tent with no WiFi faded so we set out in search of the next best thing that allows us to enjoy all of the outdoor benefits of camping, but with all the comforts of home. We found it at River Run!
Kevin & Barbara Hanville purchased this Chalet in 2013
Why Kevin & Barbara Hanville chose Murphy
We chose this property because it is very unique and you will not find another like it to rent. The two chalets allows for all to enjoy the family vacation. The Trout House is designed like a giant game room with beds. It includes WiFi, Ping Pong, and air hockey. Got a moody teenager with friends who want their privacy? Or want to play their music to loud? Or want to watch something different on TV? No problem! The Trout House is the perfect kid’s getaway while you enjoy the peace and relaxation of the Country House. They are happy and you are happy! Perfect!
What makes this Chalet unique
The two chalets offer something for all members of the family. The property is located at the end of a mile long dirt road on a level 1 acre fenced lot. You can rent one or both chalets depending on your needs. The covered wrap-around metal roofed porches are just feet from the Nottely River. You can fish, hike, go antiquing, sit by the fire and listen to the river, BBQ on the outdoor grill, watch the cows graze across the river, or just sit on the porch in the rockers and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Nottely River.

If you are looking to get away from the city and ready to enjoy nature, this is the perfect spot.
Tranquility by the water.
Everything was as promised. Sitting is beautiful , peaceful, and quiet. Road to property could use some work. It is a little harrowing in places The home was clean and well maintained.
Overall a very pleasing weekend. Our group enjoyed it very much.
We absolutely LOVED this fabulous rental. It was very private and a true escape! Definitely go!
We were so pleased when we arrived at the River Run Chalet. Following a dirt road we knew it would be private and it was. The river is spectacular and watching it rise each day due to the opening of the dam was very exciting. Access to play in it is just through the gate and not inconvenient. We loved building fires and grilling on the fabulous stone BBQ pit. We found ourselves spending most of our time sitting on the Pavilion on the river just enjoying the beautiful scenery. The house is apparently somewhat new because it was all very tidy and in order and very clean. The game tables were fun and would be fabulous for kids. If you are with a group and need four bedrooms these two houses are the place to go! The owner was very accessible by text and offered a lot of help which we appreciated. Thanks Kevin!! The one and only thing that we would NOT have liked is if the other house had been rented at the same time by people we don't know. In this case, there would have been no privacy and we would have had to share everything outside. Luckily for us, this time it wasn't! But for this reason is a great place friends or family. A++!
Beautiful and peaceful
Loved the location and amenities. Everything was wonderful. Only thing I would have changed would be to not be so close to the neighbors kind of felt a little less private.
Beautiful location. Close to civilization yet so far away.
Beautiful place to get away from it all. Had everything we needed for a wonderful time. Plenty to do but also ideal place to just sit on the porch and read a book or drink some coffee. Highly recommended and hope to go back soon!
Nice chalet on the river
We enjoyed the trip, time away from home to reflect on what we are thankful for. The chalet was nice and cozy inside. My child got stung by flying insect on first night while sitting on couch so everyone thought "bees". Turned out there were wasp nests under the eve of roof above doorway. Yellow paper wasps, which we have red ones here in Alabama. Really liked the fog that was ever present on the river. Made a nice campfire and roasted snores one night. Grass was a bit high and wet, had to carry all luggage across yard to get it to the house without a real walkway of sorts. Neighbor said person had not been there to cut that week. Daughter likes the x box, which had some good kids games. Some were missing already from previous tenants I'm sure, but plenty to keep her busy. The only thing I was hoping for with a river front property was a convenient water access point, but the bank was heavily overgrown during our trip and water level fluctuated several feet due to dam release which prevented us from getting in and relaxing. Went to nantahala and hung out along the river there watching rafters make their way downstream to get our river fix. Wife found some antiques she couldn't leave behind, and the blue ridge train ride was fun, although seemed a bit pricey. Had some neighbors at other chalet which meant sharing the river porch patio, but they were nice folks and also from Alabama. we carried a trailer as usual and found the road in, as well as parking area fairly difficult to maneuver. Gravel road was long and one lane only, and lots of land owners using it to be so narrow. The rain made traction difficult on some of steep areas with 2wd and trailer weight but was ok in dry weather. Recommendations are to trim trees at parking area, a bit larger parking area maybe for turning around with trailer? Maybe a stone or gravel path to cabins or simply cut grass lower in those paths. The river front was beautiful and would love to see some steps leading down to it and the poison ivy killed off. The field next door was 3-4 feet high and not inspiring enough to walk through for the wife to go with me, although I found the nook in the bank to get to waters edge and sat there a little while. Hope to come back and get in the river next time. Thanks for the cozy amenities inside the trout chalet!
