This spacious, 18th-century farmhouse, set among greenery and cypress trees, is entirely built of traditional stone, adorned with fig trees, trumpet vines, and Virginia creeper. The breathtaking view sweeps over the luberon, the monts du vaucluse, and the picturesque villages of villars and saint saturnin les apt.
The "mas" (provence-style farmhouse) was restored by a brilliant Franco-British architect. Great care was taken to retain the house's historical features: period staircase and fireplace, original provence-style ceilings, selected antique tiles, and plaster work restored by the best local craftsmen. It also has modern conveniences everywhere: large, comfortable, open-plan living spaces, a spectacular contemporary staircase, and a very large kitchen, combining traditional wood and stone with the latest technology.
The 5,000 ft² house is entirely south-facing, with broad french windows opening directly into a charming courtyard paved with ancient stones, planted with fig trees and roses under shady lime trees.
The spacious rooms make the house very easy to move around and live in: the 4 separate living rooms include a winter garden that open onto the swimming pool, a large drawing room paved with antique tiles, an oak-floored library, and a large games and television room. All the rooms are airy and overlook the gardens, to benefit from their coolness and heady perfumes.
Every detail of the decor, including the fabrics and designer furniture, blend in with a thousand curios from many lands to create a relaxed, cosy atmosphere.
Each of the 5 bedrooms has an independent full bathroom and toilet. The master bedroom opens onto a private, 390 ft² patio, with a fantastic view of the luberon, the swimming pool, the great trees in the grounds, and the shooting stars.
The gardens cover a full hectare (2.4 acres). They are quite exceptional for the Mediterranean region, with plentiful, natural springs, feeding a fountain, two wells, and even a small pond. This accounts for the luxuriant vegetation that flourishes every spring: plane trees, weeping willows, pines, cypresses, all sorts of flowering shrubs, and displays of peonies and rare flowers. Tree-lined paths and outdoor seating areas offer attractive surroundings and cool shade, even in the full heat of summer.
A 200-year-old giant plane tree stands over the 12-meter (39-foot) swimming pool, surrounded by lawns and flower beds. A nearby spot, under a wild plum tree, provides an ideal setting for candlelit summer dinners.
The estate is entirely surrounded by huge fruit orchards and fields, adding to its peaceful atmosphere.
This outstanding house and its amazing gardens are ideal for a large family or a group of friends, where everyone can enjoy their own space and freedom. Its ancient stone walls and superb natural surroundings offer protection and privacy.
This dream property is located exactly in the geographical centre of the luberon natural park.
All the most charming villages in vaucluse and haute-provence are accessible from the house by car in under 20 minutes: gordes, roussillon, bonnieux, lacoste, viens, simiane...And many more !
