This guest house is at the center of our 21 acre Gentlemen's ranch, one mile south of Suttons Bay and 1/2 mile from the Bay. The address for our location is 1624 South West Bayshore Drive (which is M-22), Suttons Bay While there is not a water view unless you are on top one of our hills, the setting is an idyllic location with panoramic valley and hill views. This house has a warm natural all wood interior with beautiful artwork, yet all the modern amenities such as wifi and satellite TV with multiple movie channels.
The grounds are professionally landscaped and maintained by the Landscape Architect owner.
There is a large open area that includes a wrap-around leather couch and a loft with two beds along with a separate bedroom with a queen-size bed with an exceptional quality pillow-top mattress. There is plenty of room to park any toys (campers, boats, trailers) right on the property. The owners have a 26 foot motorboat and other water toys, so arrangements could be made for their use. If there is a need to stall your horses, or if you want to ride a horse or two, those arrangements can be made as well.
On the property is a large barn, a small barn (both for horses) along with indoor and outdoor riding arenas. Attached to the indoor riding arena is a viewing area with a pool table, wifi, cable, bathroom, laundry and additional sleeping area in another loft if it is needed.
At night, there is a firepit area to warm up on the cold Northern Michigan nights and we are far enough away from any city so that the panaromic star views are incredible.
We are only 1/2 mile away from the Suttons Bay to Traverse City trail and you could ride bikes/horses snowshoe/hike/cross-country ski in any direction from here and see wonderful water vistas and orchard/hill/valley views.
We are 30 minutes away from the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and the Homestead Resort that has skiing with hills that border on Lake Michigan.
As always, if you pay for six days, you get the 7th day free.

Jeff and Debbie live on the property with their daughter Samara. Jeff is an attorney and Debbie is a Landscape Architect who designed the beautiful grounds and maintains them as well. They enjoy the life up North with the opportunity to raise, ride and show horses.
Debbie Slocombe purchased this chateau / country house in 2002
Jeff and Debbie have been coming to the Traverse City/Suttons Bay all of their lives for vacations and decided to move to the area in 1999. They love the location of Suttons Bay because it has all the activities of Traverse City, yet the idyllic lifestyle of a Village just a short distance away.
Our home is just a five minute walk to the beach or a one mile bike ride/hike to Suttons Bay. The TART trail (Rails to Trails Suttons Bay to Traverse City) makes it a 13 mile bike ride to Traverse City.
You can bring your own bikes or borrow some of ours to ride into the Village for a nice breakfast/lunch/dinner.
Because we are on 21 acres surrounded by much more open area, you will not be constricted to a small area.
My husband and I had a magical time staying at Just "S" Hills! The location is perfect, close to downtown Suttons Bay and the wineries. The cottage is adorable and has everything you need. Our favorite feature was looking out the bedroom window and seeing the beautiful horses! Truly surreal. Debbie and her husband were so accommodating and responded quickly to all of my questions. We would stay here again in a heartbeat! Thank you for opening up your cottage to us!
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our week at the Just S Hills home. The owners are absolutely wonderful people who make you feel so comfortable. I would recommend this rental to anyone looking for a beautiful setting, close to the beach and downtown suttons bay
The property was clean and beautiful. It was just as pictured. The bed was very comfortable. What little time we had to relax in front of the tv was also very comfortable.Debbie and Jeff were great hosts. We look forward to returning to "Just S Hills" on our next trip to the area.
We recently returned from a week at Debbie and Jeff's cottage on their farm near the village at Sutton's Bay. It is in a quiet and picturesque location behind the main house and shares a back yard with a fountain and grill with the residence. Pastures and the horse barn are behind the cottage. We counted about a dozen horses on the property. The cottage is very well appointed with a large L shaped leather sofa, easy chair, writing desk and TV equipped with cable in the sitting area. The kitchenette is against a back wall. Track lighting, some of which is controlled by a rheostat, illuminates the kitchenette and living area. The bedroom and bath are through a door in the rear of the cottage. The bed was very comfortable. We were there for a family reunion in Northport, and my brother and sister-in-law occupied the bed in the loft for two nights. The access is up a ladder against the wall that goes straight up. It helps to be in decent condition to make the climb. This is a quibble, however, and we are glad the extra bed in the loft exists. Whoever did the design and renovation of the building did an excellent job. We needed extra refrigerator space because of food prepared for the reunion, and Jeff made available the refrigerator in the spectator area of the horses barn. Both Jeff and Debbie were very attentive to any needs we expressed. We walked to Sutton's Bay one morning, and found the best route is to cross the M-22 by Northern Building supply and follow the road down the drive along the lake shore. If you like burgers and locally brewed beer in a picnic/beer garden setting, stop at the Hop Lot. on M-22 just before town. We would definitely stay again.
This is the fifth year we have stayed with the Slocombes, and we absolutely love this property! The grounds are lovely and beautifully landscaped, and the setting with all of the horses is gorgeous. The living space is clean, quiet, and lovingly decorated. The bed is memory foam and is very comfortable, and the couch is plush and wonderful for lounging. Jeff and Debbie are not only wonderful and attentive hosts but kind and generous people. They give you lots of space and privacy, but are there if you need something. The location really can't be beat, it's just about two minutes from Suttons Bay. If you'd like a calm, quiet vacation on picturesque farmland surrounded by beautiful horses in a peaceful and private location, then this is the place for you!
My husband and I spent a great relaxing June week at this location. Jeff was a very gracious host and we enjoyed talking to him about the area.
The bed and sectional couch were both very comfortable. The kitchen was small but had everything that we needed while we were there. There is also a larger refrigerator and washer/dryer located in the next building that we did not need during our stay but would be convenient for another time.
The furnishings were charming and the history of the place was interesting. It is a great central location for visiting Traverse City and any of the smaller villages like Leland or Northport. It is also very close to Sutton's Bay. Go to North Country and try their lobster chowder and Milk & Honey appetizer. Take your chairs out to the marina and watch the boats come and go.
We greatly recommend this to all and it is my new "favorite place" in this area.
Voted 'the most beautiful location in America' (Good Morning America) with Sleeping Bear Dunes, 22 Vineyards and wine-tasting rooms along with gourmet/casual dining all in Leelanau County. Bring your horses, bikes or kayaks we have arenas (indoor and outdoor) and trails on site and are one mile from the Leelanau trial that runs from Suttons Bay to Traverse City and beyond. If you would like to sail or powerboat, arrangements can be made. Suttons Bay has excellent shopping, restaurants, festivals and a quaint art-house movie theater that also shows first-run movies.
