Do nothing, or do it all. Curl up with a good book in front of the fire place. Sunbathe on the deck and enjoy the view of the Gualala River where it meets the Pacific ocean. Play soccer with the kids in the fenced yard. Let the kids play in the yard while you observe from the deck above, with wine in hand! Roast marshmallows in the fire pit for 'smores. Go to Glass Beach in Mendocino, ride the Skunk Train in Fort Bragg, catch a movie in Point Arena. Or leave the kids with the Grandparents and enjoy an adult getaway. There is an endless list of activities from kayaking to hiking to getting massages...The choice is yours...

About Nannette Wilkinson
Nannette and Philip Wilkinson. We are a Physical Therapist and a General Building Contractor. We have transformed this property from little more than a neglected, run-down shack, to its current form.
Nannette Wilkinson purchased this House in 1998
Why Nannette Wilkinson chose Gualala
Because Gualala is amazing! And our home is perfectly situated for privacy yet within walking distance to town.
What makes this House unique
Our property is great for large families or family groups. With 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms there is plenty of room for privacy. Time together can be spent around the large dining table, the site for wonderful meals and games, reconnecting. Things can of course spill out onto the spacious deck for luxuriating in the sound of the ocean, watching the waves, and into the large yard for games, tag, hide and seek. Sneak up to the treehouse for a bird's eye view of things!

Tranquil and relaxing
We took a family vacation (ages 18 - 88) to Gualala and had a very restful relaxing time at the RiverHouse. Our family flew in from all over the US, met at Oakland airport, rented cars and drove up the coast. It was a 3.5 hr drive along Highway 1, very picturesque and beautiful. It is filled with pinpoint turns so if you are prone to car sickness, suggest you are the driver or passenger in the front seat. My niece became quite car sick and had to stop about every 10 minutes. You'll also want to make sure you arrive at the house before dark as there are no street lights on Highway 1. The town is about 2,000 people and the RiverHouse is located on a side street overlooking where the Russian River meets the Pacific Ocean. The views are magnificent from the house and the sounds of the ocean can be heard everywhere. It is a short walking distance to town with a few stores. We stopped at Costco in Santa Rosa on the way and purchased groceries for the week. The kitchen is fully stocked with a nice sized dining room table which fit our family of 10 perfectly. We cooked all of our meals and ate at the table or on the porch. We played board games, read books, built puzzles, told stories and porch sat. We also walked the cliffs over the ocean, went to the beach, visited a lighthouse in the next town further north and a quaint chapel in Sea Ranch the next town further south, about 7 minute drive from the house. There is no beach access that we could find from the town however it is a short 5 minute drive over the bridge to Sea Ranch to the Gualala Point Regional Park. It costs $7 for the day and once you park it is about 1/2 - 3/4 mile walk to get to the beach and only partially paved for wheelchair access. This is a lovely location to relax and enjoy your friends and family and surroundings.
Wow! It looks like you did it all! Thanks for all the detailed information, it really helps future guests. Hope you can come back again some day. We appreciate your business.
A lovely house. Everything we needed. Lots of special touches that show care for their guests, A great spot to relax and kick back.
Three generations of family gathered at this special home for the Thanksgiving holiday. This home, which sits on a bluff above the place where the Gualala River and Pacific Ocean meet, had everything we could have hoped for. Beautiful views, cozy home, well-stocked kitchen, and plenty of room for everyone. Loved the opportunity to sit on the large deck and listen to the waves as the turkey cooked! And the lighted truck parade with the arrival of Santa was a fun surprise! We hope to stay at this remarkable place again soon.
Unforgettable reunion in a beautiful house
Fabulous house, very welcoming. All guests enjoyed bedroom privacy and lovely common area. Great view from platform. Easy walk to Trinks, where people could handle email, buy great coffee. Across the street from fun shops to explore. Superb beach hiking. Everyone of us loved it.
Loved the house and the owner, not pleased with VRBO.
I so enjoyed the house and the owner if amazing. We left the house in excellent condition (10 women who all run households and had kids). The VRBO housekeeping staff indicated there were "dog marks" and they had to do extra cleaning. We did not have a dog and left the place in excellent condition.
Advice - take pictures of all the rooms/bedding to have in your back pocket in case VRBO housekeepers try to scam you on the deposit.
Our family enjoyed a wonderful 3 days at the River House. Well stocked kitchen, nice views, easy walk to town for shopping, restaurants, groceries.
Gualala is North of Bodega Bay and South of Mendocino. Other Activities: Kayaking, Wildlife Viewing, Miniature Golf, Boating, Health/Beauty Spa, Shopping, Basketball Court Golf: The Sea Ranch Golf Course is just a couple of miles from the house!
