Beautiful and quiet

  • 5 of 5

My wife, daughter (26 yo) and I stayed here for about a week in a very lot late June. I did not completely understand prior to arriving how big this place is. The compound sits on about 25-30 acres. The driveway is gated at the road and the compound ~2 acres (house, a guest house/garage and the grounds) is also tightly fenced such that our 12 lbs dog could safely run around. I was a little worried about snakes as a couple of corners of the compound had high grass, but we never saw anything beyond large lizards, birds and misc insects.

The main house was well decorated and had a lot of books. I spent a few days reading one on the history of Galveston. Decorations were appropriate for the area, kind of SW/Western... I admit I don't pay a lot of attention to aesthetics, but it was obvious someone took their time decorating... the front door in particular was unique.

There were two bedrooms, but three lofts. I think the main house could comfortably sleep 6 to 10 assuming if the lofts in the bedrooms were occupied. The guest house could accomondate 2-4 more, including a children's room

The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and anything needed for cooking up to a Thanksgiving dinner.

What I appreciated most was sitting on the screened porch off on the master bedroom and simply listening to the world wake up in the morning. Lots of humming birds, song birds and one pair of squirrels. The house is on lonely man creek as the base of a hill. the creek has a small dam (pictured) on on the deep water side were a lot of fish including one large catfish and turtle. I enjoy camping, but my wife and daughter are still getting used to it. This house provided the benefits of nature with a luxury living area.

Our daughter stayed in the guest house where she could play music, work out and generally stay up later than my wife and I. TVs in the main house and guest house were equipped with Apple TV, Direct TV and a VCR... the point being she could watch Netflix.

Phone signals on both Verizon and T-mobile networks were good, and the house was equipped with WIFI (fast during week, slow on weekends).

We will almost certainly rent again as it is convenient to Austin (1 hr), San Marcos (20 min), Wimberly (5 min), New Braunfels and San Antonio (30-40 min?). It is pricey... I think five nights, after rent, taxes and extra insurance was about $2300- however I'd pay it again :). Heck we even looked at property for sale in the area.

Amazing time in a beautiful serene atmosphere!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time at your property! The property was well stocked, couldn't have asked for more, and I fell in love w the giant black catfish in the creek! Hopefully the owners don't allow fishing in that small area as all the fish seemed so tame there (always around us), and he was the only large catfish left! He only hung around in that one area so it's not even a sport to catch him as he's too domesticated :)

Thanks so much again for everything and can't wait to plan another trip!

Gorgeous property!

  • 4 of 5

Let me begin by saying this is a beautiful property and a well appointed, comfortable home. It is exactly as represented in terms of a quiet, private and peaceful retreat, and I will likely stay here again as we had a wonderful time. Because I rely on client reviews in selecting a property on HomeAway, I hope to assist others (and possibly management) with suggestions or items that I would like "in a perfect world situation.". The property has two entry gates with separate key codes. The first gate had an obvious pad for the driver to key in. When we arrived at the second gate, there was no pad to be found. After a minor panic, we finally reached the management office and they (apologetically) advised us that you had to exit the car and reach through a fence on the right side to locate the pad. I would suggest advising clients of this in advance. The king bed in the master is actually two twins pushed together - not a big deal but not as stated in the property info. There are no window coverings in the guest bedroom (again, not a huge deal but it tended to disrupt our grand baby's sleep). There is a gas grill ( which I confirmed prior to arrival as we planned our meals to be prepared on the grill). We were unable to use the grill as planned because it was in need of attention. Also, be aware there is no TV in the common area - only in the master bedroom. Again, not a deal killer but with two men who were interested in watching college football games, it was somewhat disappointing. Finally, the prior guests must have had huge dogs as there were "land mines" all around the yard which we picked up ourselves in order to avoid us and our dog stepping in it.

As a whole, however, this is a lovely place for a relaxing getaway and we really enjoyed our stay!

First Family Vacation - SUCCESS!

  • 5 of 5

As soon as you drive down the winding road, you know that you have made a great decision. The property is stunning. The pictures don't quite do it justice - but I'm not sure if a camera could. This place is just perfect. Private and secluded, but very close to town. It being gated was even better because we were able to bring along our dog that usually gets boarded during vacations. This was our first trip as a family and we couldn't have chosen a better spot. Close enough to Austin that our toddler and dog didn't get stir crazy in the car - bonus! The home is beautiful. From the doors to the impressive book selection, every detail was carefully selected. We relaxed, we fished, we kayaked, we simply enjoyed one another. I don't even think we turned on the tv during our visit! Access to the water was great. Our son loved going up and down the stairs and exploring. Our dog run and swam until he literally passed out from exhaustion. The home is very well stocked and the layout is very functional. We cannot wait to come back!

Beautiful home with private "swimming hole"

  • 5 of 5

My husband, son and I stayed at Red Hawk Ranch in June 2015 and couldn't have been more pleased with this property. The main house is lovely and clean, with a well-stocked kitchen (even had a vegetable juicer!). After some heavy spring rains, Lone Man Creek was pretty fast-flowing and the waterfall was rushing when we arrived. It did slow down a bit over the next few days, but the creek was so enjoyable, we didn't want to leave. We spotted some pretty big fish downstream as well. We want to come back and bring our two dogs next time, as the entire yard is fenced AND there is a doggy door. Perfect!
