                                                          We stayed here for week in March. Overall the villa was disappointing and in a disappointing location - not worth the money. The villa was clearly "worn-out", the furnishings shabby and the equipment on its last legs (literally - we had one of the four dining chairs that would have collapsed if anyone sat on it) - its been a long time since money was spent on it. We had a number of issues with things being broken or not working. The owner was on site but never came to see us, but the maintenance man was friendly and very helpful in replacing or fixing stuff.

                                                          The best bit was the fact the front of the villa was directly on the beach, which was lovely, and just like the picture it was no more than 50 feet or so from the water's edge. The stretch of beach in front of us was lovely. The photo's (showing and endless stretch of beach) are misleading though as the beach is cut-off some 50 metres to the right and 250 metres to the left as a result of the beach being washed away several years ago in a storm and requiring barriers to be built to protect properties and prevent them being washed away. The general vicinity is run down, the roads are falling apart and there are a number of derelict buildings around that just underline that this area has seen better days and is on a continuing process of decline. On several occasions we lost mains power and whilst this is not uncommon, the back up generator was, like the rest of the place, an old cronk, and although it was some distance from our villa we could hear it thumping away and smell the diesel fumes (god knows when it was last serviced !) - nearby properties had much newer (sound attenuated) generators

                                                          I have to admit being very surprised at this review. I a number of guests who have specifically rented this apartment multiple times. And they only want this apartment. The apartment was rented to a NJ family from late December till end of January this year for the 7th time. They came back in May this year for a shorter stay and have booked the apartment again for all of this coming January. I have an English couple in this apartment at present for their 15th time renting for a month's stay. I had an American family renting this apartment for a week the month before you stayed and they booked again for next February shortly after returning to the USA.

                                                          I believe I returned to Antigua, with a very bad cold, a day or 2 after you arrived, so I was not as visible as normal simply because I did not want to give anyone else my cold, and because I felt too unwell to be out and about. But I also know that my partner (ex-wife) in the business was on the property week days and ensured that all was functioning.

                                                          You did not specify what the "broken things" were, other than a dining chair, so I cannot comment. However I know that the fridge, stove, furnishings are all less than 3 years old.

                                                          As far as the barriers in front of the other properties on Runaway Bay, they were the cause of the beach being as it is! Not the salvation! I spoke to the Caribbean top expert on coastal protection, and he was horrified that such action had been taken.

                                                          On the plus side we get all our repeat guests because of the feeling of semi-privacy this beach situation now has. All beaches in Antigua are public however we can control who traverses our property to reach the beach. Our property is not public!

                                                          As far as our generator is concerned, it is actually newer than the neighbors generators which are much further away, as well as being about one quarter the output of our generator. You commented on our generator being an "old cronk" and questioned whether it was ever serviced. As it is entirely useless if it does not work, we absolutely do ensure it is serviced

                                                          We stayed for 7 nights in the bottom apt. We wanted beachfront and it was! beautiful white sand and only a few people on the beach that stayed in the same complex. Something not seen in the pictures, is an oil barge that is off shore and large barges come in daily to deliver oil for the island. But, overall, the view is still amazing. Bring bug spray, lot's of mosquitos!

                                                          Both units are great...simple, very efficient and clean with a nice quiet beach only steps away! The on-site staff is very friendly and the price for this little gem is really nice. An ideal place to bring friends/family and rent both units. Would definitely stay here again. Thanks Brian

                                                          Amazing Beachfront 10 steps from your front door!

                                                          This ground floor 2 bedroom apartment is located on beautiful grounds in a quiet location. The area is close to grocery stores, night life and more touristy beaches where you can access more water activities, bars and restaurants. The apartment itself is lovely with separate bathrooms for each of the bedrooms, the kitchen is adequately stocked with utensils and there is staff on the grounds at all times in case you need assistance. The beach is gorgeous! We explored many of the beaches on the island and still found that Runaway Beach was one of our favorites! It is just a lovely, lovely beach and you literally walk 10 steps out of your patio door and there you are. The only negative thing is because the weather is so warm and beautiful, we always had the windows open. Sometimes it was very easy to hear what was going on in other apartments and they can hear what's going on in yours. However, it was a very small concern and we spent most of our day outside on the beach anyway. Staff on the grounds are wonderful and there is a very good restaurant beside the apartments. It truly was a wonderful place to stay and wouldn't hesitate to return!

                                                          An Enjoyable Experience


                                                          My son, father and I stayed for 5 days and thoroughly enjoyed our time at the property. The apartment was comfortable, clean and well fitted out and with access to the ocean mere steps away. Access to the local supermarket, ATM, etc was 10 minutes within reach by car. Do try the Italian restaurant next door, both food and service were excellent! Would definitely recommend to travelers wishing to vacation a little off the beaten track versus amidst the hustle and bustle of traditional hotels. Not recommended for those traveling alone as the location is somewhat isolated.
