About the property

Be our guest in this new (2014) 2 room - 1 bedroom apartment. It accommodates 2 in the bedroom. It is possible to add one more person would use the sofa bed in the front room.

Every room is light-filled.There is an open kitchen-living area, a bedroom with queen bed, bathroom with shower, and large walk-in closet. Guests have full use of the terrace-patio right outside your door with sunset views right outside your door. You'll have a patio table with large umbrella and chairs.

You'll have whole-house water purification so you don't need bottled water. There's a gas heater in both the front room and the bedroom for the cooler nights, fans for the warmer days. The kitchen is equipped with microwave oven, gas range-top, full size refrigerator, coffee maker, blender, pots and pans, dishes and utensils, and more. You will have a small flat-screen TV with dvd player and international cable service. There's also a cd player and a library of books, CDs and DVDs, and tour guides.

There is safe on-street parking in front of the house - which is directly across from the security-guard station for our small neighborhood.

Your hosts live on the main-floor. You will have a private entrance and your entire Casita is separate from the hosts' residence giving you freedom to come and go as you wish.

The street is about 12 years old. The Casita is in a very secure neighborhood with limited public access and a security guard.

You are a 10 minute walk to "Fabrica Aurora," the extensive arts and design complex. The historic city center is a 25-30 minute walk - with sidewalks and on level ground. There are 2 city bus stops nearby. One circles the city, one goes directly into the city center.

San Miguel de Allende is a city of festivals - something like 100 every year - including a Poetry Workshop, the San Miguel Writers Conference, Chamber Music Festival, Jazz and Blues Festival, film festival, a live Opera, the competition finals for Mexico's finest young opera singers, Cuban music, many culinary special events and more.

About Judith Jenya and Mark Johaningsmeir

We are retired couple who met and married here in Mexico. Judith is an artist, photographer and poet. Mark is a writer.

We love our life here in San Miguel. Unlike many cities that attract tourists, we think that San Miguel is an even better place to live than visit - and people certainly enjoy their visits! We enjoy the rich cultural life of art exhibits, concerts, plays, discussion groups, writing groups.

Judith Jenya and Mark Johaningsmeir purchased this apartment in 2014

Why Judith Jenya and Mark Johaningsmeir chose San Miguel de Allende

We built this home a block away from our previous home of 8 years. We like the neighborhood - its people and location! We are close enough to the city center to engage fully in the vibrant social and cultural scene there. And we are far enough away from the center so we can enjoy a quiet night of rest without the noise of traffic and celebrations.

Our neighbors are about an equal mix of Mexicanos and ex-pats.

What makes this apartment unique

We built this house for simplicity and comfort. The Casita is a guest suite for our family and friends who come to visit. We also make it available to guests from around the world - like you!

The Casita is a fully separate, self-contained suite on the second level of our home. In addition to creating a lush garden on the ground level, we are adding shrubs and small trees to the Casita's patio. The patio has a large umbrella and table and chairs.

What a wonderful place on the 2nd floor with a private terrace overlooking SMA and the countryside around it. ...Even air balloons floating overheard a couple of AM's. thanks for arranging that. Very comfortable bed. Great kitchenette but no time to use it. Public bus at the end of the street but walking to El Centro doable. They gave me suggestions of where to eat etc.

Mark and Judith very amiable and so helpful. They went out of their way to make my visit enjoyable.

Since I was there to investigate living in SMA they invited me to accompany them on a couple of their personal short trips around SMA, and meeting their friends. I really appreciated that. And, they graciously told me about their experiences of living in SMA.

I also appreciate their very timely return of my security deposit.
