Come see why America chose Sleeping Bear Dunes as the most beautiful place in America ! It starts right here at M-22 and the Famous Lazy Ride down South Platte River . It is IMPOSSIBLE to remember the stresses of every day life while you are here !
Up until now it has been called 'The best kept Secret in Benzie County !' In fact a lot of the locals aren't too happy about the publicity ! They know what a rare gem they have had hiding here !
Seeing is believing and I promise you won't be disappointed when you see all this incredible area has to offer ! The Floor plan is very versatile (Total Space over 2000 sq ft w/finished lower level that has 4 ft by 4 ft windows !) and easy to group people together in many different sleeping arrangements, especially with all of the extra space in the brand new finished basement.. But please feel comfortable here ! We have a nice place but it is for vacationing ! Relax ! No fine art Pieces to worry about breaking. This is a place where everybody should feel welcome ! This is not an area filled with tons of shops and tourist traps and trinkets ! Natural Beauty Abounds everywhere and is FREE !
We headed north on one summer vacation many years ago and fell in love with those towering dunes perched along the Northwest side of Lake Michigan towering out from above the edges of the Forests below. This is paradise and we have never grown tired of exploring, walking a new trail or finding a new beach. Traveling just 10 minutes a little more north, south, east or west, whichever way you choose, there is always something new and amazing to discover in this Peninsula.
From your lazy trip down The South Platte River to The infamous Dune Climb up by Glen Lakes.
Don't forget to go to Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive for the most dramatic overlook in America ! Take your time there. Dont rush.
So. Here is our Dream. There is more than enough room and privacy for a small Family Reunion, (we have two full baths and a new finished basement ) or just a quiet getaway for two. The layout is very flexible and acomidate, yet modern. The location (right across from the famous South Platte River) is excellent !
Any sunny afternoon to explore the area is good for a quiet country drive down the meandering roads between the historical farmsteads of Port Onieda only to discover another stretch of private seemingly untouched beach all to yourself that goes
on for miles and miles...
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh ! And then there are the Sunsets.............
Keywords: Voted 'MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE IN AMERICA ! This property LITERALLY boarders The Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes on two side ! ! ! Walking distance to three different bodies of water. Beach,Lake, sanctuary, new built house, finished lower level with daylight windows, additional sleeping possible in finished basement, lake, river, sunset, hideaway, secluded setting, serenity,
My Family and I have been looking for that special place to get away from the stresses of every day life for a long time. We knew that we wanted to be close to the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes and knew immediately when we found this property, that this was the location we were looking for. As a kid I have great memories camping all over the State of Michigan my whole life, but, ironically, we had never ventured this far. None of them come close to comparing to this area. We are now creating awesome memories with our kids now that we have found our 'favorite spot' in the State. We hope that you enjoy our Sanctuary half as much as we do !
Michele Blair purchased this house in 2011
We chose this specific area because it is centrally located in the middle of the most naturally beautiful places in the state of Michigan. The Wine tours are amazing and just minutes away. From North Port all of the way down to Elberta there are so many unique and beautiful places to discover ! My Family and I have been coming up here to this area for about ten years now and can never seem to get enough of it each time we come. Its surrounding towns are so interesting and have fun little shops and different beaches to explore. Did I mention it? We LOVE the beaches here ! As beautiful as it is, it never seems to be so crowded that it is a tourist trap of some kind. No huge shopping Malls with all the fast food. Its still a very quaint and low key vacation area to forget about all your daily stress back home, but still boasts of many little shops with very interesting items to mark your memorable time here.
You can drive 20 minutes in any direction and see something new each and every time ! SERIOUSLY. South Platte River is across the street so you can drop your canoe, kayak, aka any flotation device, and be in Lake Michigan within a few hours. There is always somewhere new to discover, (another fossil to find) I cannot even count the number of beaches that we have found from the many inland lakes to all around the coast of Michigan to the several Islands (a couple we haven't even gotten to yet !) there are Ferries going to them on a regular schedule-all info is at the 'cabin.' There is so much natural beauty to see in so many different spots that this has been voted as 'THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE IN AMERICA.
We had a great time at your home by the Platte River. Love this area ! The home is very nice and you've thougth of everything a family would need for a confortable and fun time.
The kids loved all of the places to swim and collect rocks.
We found so many wonderful places to visit that were so close by.
Thank you for a terrific opportunity.
This property was perfect for a Labor Day weekend getaway! Close to all of the things we love to do, like kayak, hang at the beach, walk in the woods, etc. The house was very clean and neat, and it was cozy and comfortable. We hated to leave! Owners were very nice and accomodating. It was so great to be able to bring our small dogs on vacation with us! That made our weekend complete!
Our family is not big on touristy locations and this casual cottage just enough off the beaten path fit the bill for our ideal first attempt at a family vacation rental. My extended family, which included 6 adults, five children (ages 4 to 11), and a small dog had plenty of room to spredict out. The guest rooms accommodated our family well. They were clean and included the bedding. The bathrooms were clean only suffering from some hard water stains, which is not uncommon in wells in Michigan. The laundry is on the main floor in the hallway, guest bathroom which we found very convenient. The kitchen had all the supplies we needed for cooking including a coffee pot and griddle for those morning pancakes. The living areas (one up one down) both had large screen tvs and the wifi was reliable. The back patio along with the dining roomtable provided adaquate seating for meals. We found many things to do in the area: visiting 3 different beaches for sun filled days and beautiful sunsets, visited the Dunes, canoed the Lower Platte River and spent a day in Traverse City. We could have spent two weeks and not run out of things to do. The only drawbacks we experienced were the request that the thermostat not be set below 78. For those in the basement sleeping was comfortable, but those upstairs would have preferred it be a bit cooler. We honored the request, but were a bit stuffy at times. Finally, we had a disheartening experience with the owner upon returning home from our trip. We were told that because of pillows that went missing and kayaks that were damaged we would not receive our refund. Neither of these claims were true and we're later rectified and we did receive our deposit back. The experience tainted the trip for some though. All in all a great stay, just be sure to report anything you find amiss during your stay and check the condition on materials (possibly photograph) upon arriving.
House was a short drive to the Dunes, beautiful beaches, spectacular scenery, winery and quaint shops. This house is secluded from "city noise" and the basement was a winner for my 5 grandsons who dont get to see each other often. Sitting by the fire at night, deer were visable in the woods behind the house. Owner made herself available during our stay to answer my calls for those last minute questions. Having traveled to many parts of the world, I assure you will not be disappointed with this property.
We could not use the water for 24 hours because it wad brown and cloudy. Alsso the back bathroom was not clean and tub was rather dirty. Cleaned it before using. Every thing else was fine. Larry and Chris Smith
This is the second year my family has stayed in this home, the home is beautiful and very clean. The furniture is very comfortable and the kitchen table is large. The beds are comfortable and the house fits a lot of people. In our group we had 17 people staying here and we were all very comfortable. The house is located in a perfect area, many towns are within driving distance. Our families personal favorites are sleeping bear dunes, glen arbor, traverse city and frankfort. Thank you for offering your home to us for vacation. We will be back again.
Our family stayed from 6/14/15 to 6/17/15 and we had a wonderful time. It was the first time our blended family of five children and eight grandchildren spent a weekend together. We definitely had enough room to cook meals between the kitchen and the charcoal grill. The kitchen is wonderfully appointed with pans, dishes and utensils. We had game night at the large kitchen table and made great use of the fire pit. We enjoyed canoeing on the Platte River and took in Sleeping Bear Dunes, and the kids made a trip or two for ice cream at the canoe livery. Thank you for your thorough instructions and your follow-up Michelle. Your property is lovely and we have some terrific memories as a result!
The first question people ask is ' can we walk on the beach ?' Yes. You have a choice of three different bodies of water within walking distance. Platte River, Big Platte Lake and Loon Lake. All three are very different and very close to the most beautiful beach in Michigan, Platte River Point Park, which is actually in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore voted the most beautiful in America. Its true. The simple beauty of the park just washes away all of the stress of lifes daily struggles and immediately feel the tranquility of the Lakeshore fill your senses. Its Dunes, Beaches, Forests, Hills and Farms are forever awe inspiring and never cease to renew your spirits, year after year.
