Blacksmith shop built in 1855 and converted to lovely 1100 square foot cottage with open, hand-axed beams and decorated in rustic style. Full kitchen, bath, bedroom loft and large living area with wood-burning stove leading to covered, private porch. Cottage is part of a larger property with historic home on over 1 acre of manicured grounds with swimming pool in leafy residential neighborhood. Historic Ellicott City a short drive away. Convenient for day trips to Baltimore and DC.
We are a family of seven living in a home built in 1890 with one, I repeat ONE bathroom.
owner/property manager purchased this cottage in 2014
Historic Ellicott City is less than five miles away; Baltimore is about twenty miles away and Washington DC is forty-five miles away. There's hiking, mountain biking, swimming and tubing available in the lovely Patapsco State Park, accessible by foot from within the neighborhood.
My daughters and I traveled to Maryland to attend my dad's 80th birthday celebration, and decided to stay in Dave and Jen's cute "blacksmith shop" cottage. The space was cozy, just perfect for the four of us. Jen provided some yummy fresh-baked muffins. The beds were comfortable, there were fresh beans to grind for our morning coffee. We can't wait to return!
The property was just as advertised. Everything was ready when I arrived. It was wonderful to come home to after a long day of walking and touring:)
I only stayed for one evening, but I will definitely come back and stay in the cottage again. The cottage is well maintained, and has been tastefully modernized with high open ceilings in the main room, and a charming loft over the kitchen. The homemade muffins on the kitchen table are a nice touch, and also delicious.
I look forward to coming back to the cottage maybe early spring of 2017 to check out the rebuilding of beautiful downtown Ellicott City.
My husband was in Baltimore for an interview, and we decided to bring along the family for a mini vacation. It's difficult to find hotels to accommodate large families with small kids, but Dave and Jen were more than happy to work with us. The kids enjoyed having a little more space to play than a hotel and we enjoyed not trying to fit into one tiny room with all of us! All in all it was a good fit for our needs. Their great sense of humor and laid back nature made our visit comfortable.
We loved this cottage. It had lots of historic charm as well as modern construction and all the conveniences. The stone walls and huge ceiling timbers made for beautiful surroundings. And there were places for everything with a large wardrobe, dresser, hooks on the wall, and plenty of kitchen storage. We prepared our own meals during our 5-day stay, and really appreciated having a dishwasher! The owner was helpful and responsive. All in all a great place to stay.
Thank you Dave and Jen for your wonderful hospitality during our week long stay.
This stone house/ cottage was a wonderful place to stay for our family of 4. The owners met our need for a pack and play crib for our 3 month old traveling with us. They had it all set up upon our arrival. The two queen beds down stairs were amazing memory foam type beds. We came and went as we pleased during the day and never once felt "watched" by the owners. The main house is in front, cottage shares the main driveway and is more or less in the backyard of the owners beautiful house.
We feel in love with Ellicott City and its charm. The house is in a short drive to most areas. DC was about 40mins way and grocery stores were within a 5 min drive.
Hope to stay again!
You won't be disappointed renting this cute place.
