This property has been used only seasonally by my own family since its construction in 1984. We now offer it for rental, as we await retirement. I will happily share the area's best adventures to help you make the most of your stay .
Linda Hughes purchased this house in 1984
My family fell in love with this property's privacy, water view, and wildlife. Its mid-cape location is perfect as home base for all the cape has to offer.
private beach, use of canoe, stocked with puzzles and games. wooded retreat.
Overall, I would not recommend this house to others. When we pulled in the driveway, the pond behind the house looked very pretty. Once we went inside, we were overwhelmed by a strong smell of animals and/or urine. There is a thick, shaggy, old carpet throughout the house, which probably contributed to the smell. It would be nice if the sliding glass doors had screen doors to get fresh air, but they didn't. We bought odor eaters and scented candles but nothing worked.
The other problem we noticed right away was there was basically no water pressure, just a drip. We contacted Linda and she had a plumber come out the next day to repair it. She communicated well with us and was apologetic. She also refunded us for one night's worth, which we thought was very fair. While the plumber was there in the basement, we saw there was a washer/dryer down there. However, the basement was locked and inaccessible to us. Having access to the washer/dryer would've been sooo convenient!
The kitchen and bathrooms are functional but very outdated. The main floor doesn't have A/C and it was very hot during our stay. The heat mixed with the nauseating animal smell caused us to leave a day early. We just couldn't take it anymore. This house may work for animal lovers, but it definitely wasn't a good choice for us.
We enjoyed our second summer at this well-located, dog-friendly, comfortable home. The pond was delightful for swimming and kayaking, and the dog park next door was perfect for a daily walk (along with other dog parks throughout Orleans). It was nice to hear the birds chirping every morning from the porch. It was a hot week so A/C in the bedrooms, a fan downstairs, and good ventilation were a plus! The piano was there for fun on rainy days, along with lots of games and puzzles. My teen, my dog, and I had a lovely stay.
