My wife and I have lived in the 'Valley ' for 18 years. We moved here from Santa Barbara. I am a retired Plastic Packaging entrepreneur . I was born in England, and raised and attended University in Ca. My wife, Susan, was born and raised in New Jersey and was an accounting professional. We have one son in college. We are both retired and very greatful to be able to live in this beautiful Central Coast region of CA. We both enjoy golf and are members at the Alisal Ranch Country Club. We have one wonderful small multi- poodle dog named Gigi. She is our official greeter and loves people!
Dave purchased this cottage in 2007
The communities of Solvang, Los Olivos, and Santa Ynez are located in one of the most picturesque valleys located on the Central Coast of CA. Coming into the region from Santa Barbara over the mountains on Hwy. 154 has some of the most breathtaking views you will see! The rolling hills with magnificent horse facilities, and abundant wine vineyards as seen in the movie 'Sideways' are truly spectacular. The activities, ie, museums, shopping, restaurants, biking etc. in all 3 communities afford us and visitors plenty to see and do !! All of the communities are unique, quaint and have styles of their own.... yet are very close together and easy to enjoy!!
Golf in the area is X'lnt.and reasonable! There is the Alisal River Course, public with monthly passes available in Solvang( very walkable). The more challenging and acclaimed courses of La Purisima and Rancho San Marcos are public and offer cost saving packages within 15min. Within 45 min. you have fabulous courses with Ocean Views, Ocean holes ,good rates and accessibility in Santa Barbara, Lompoc, Nipomo and Arroyo Grande.
We also enjoy the WEATHER!! We typically get 340 days a year of SUNSHINE!!!!,
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! We are in a very rural setting yet convienient to all activities the 'Valley' has to offer. A beautiful setting on 10 acres, very private yet all the comforts for a... ' LIKE at HOME' stay. Our guest House is spacious ... 870sq. ft. ...with great views and a very open yet cozy floor plan !!!
We really liked the location of the guest house. You are right between Los Olivios and Solvang. We thought overall that the property and grounds were fairly average. Not too many frills with amenities inside or out or much of a view. Owners did give us our privacy and the grounds were very quiet. We did not feel too comfortable using the pool on their property. We were tempted to use the hot tub, but from the owner it takes about 20 mins to warm up to 100, so we decided to not utilize those amenities. The owners really need to address the wifi and not just utilize an extender from their house. In order to get wifi, I had to sit in the kitchen/dining room next to the wall closest to their house. I was as close as I could get to their house for being inside and still only had 2 out of 5 signal strength on my laptop. Depending on your cell phone provider, service is spotty in that area in general, especially at the property. I have Sprint, my wife AT&T and I had very poor reception from the bedroom, so it would be nice to be able to connect to wifi from any place in the house. Great location if you plan on visiting both Los Olivios, Solvang, or Buellton, but I would consider staying closer/in Los Olivios next time in that area.
The guest house was perfect for our wine tasting get away. Dave was easy to contact regarding check in and amenities. The property is beautiful and quiet and nearby Los Olivos downtown. We enjoyed the whole experience!
We loved our stay in the guest house. The scenery was gorgeous, as were the pool and jacuzzi. Dave was kind and attentive.
Highly recommend this spot for a quiet getaway!
We had an amazing time at the Hidden Views guesthouse! It's even better then the pictures show. It was very comfortable and homey. Had everything we needed for a great vacation. There is a huge walk in closet in the bedroom and the house is very spacious with a huge deck off the back (where we enjoyed watching the sun rise and the starry nights). The washer/dryer was an added bonus and there was even laundry soap.
Note: Our daughter has special needs and we were able to fit her travel bed in the bedroom with no problems. She was able to navigate the house easily and able to make the short walk to the pool pretty easily. We brought a wagon for her because we didn't know what the path was like getting to the pool. It was a paved path with one maybe two steps down near the pool OR down a slight grassy hill to avoid the step. We avoided the step and it was fine.
When we arrived we unloaded the truck and went straight to the pool. The pool was clean and refreshing with lounge chairs and umbrella. And the hot tub was very relaxing. We used the pool everyday of our stay. Dave and Sue made it clear that we could use the pool anytime and even offered to put lights on at night if we wanted a night swim. They also gave great suggestions on places to eat and things to do. They were available if we needed anything which was nice.
We enjoyed using the grill and it had all the comforts of home, with Internet and phone service. And the fireplace was a nice touch. We brought our small dog who seemed to have a great time basking in the sun. This was really the perfect vacation. We are already planning a return trip and we highly recommend this property!
We hope you enjoy it as much as we did! Thank you Dave and Sue!
This place is beautiful on a very large property central to all of the best things in the region. The guest house itself is very nice, spacious, clean and has an amazing view. David is very accommodating and is willing to help as needed. we like being independent and he did not infringe on our privacy at all. beautiful views, beautiful guest house, nice host. I only have 2 complaints about our stay since the pictures suggest a different type of stay. First, there isn't any internet. Like NONE. They say we can piggy back off of theirs from their home about 20 feet away, but it doesn't work at that long of a distance. as a business owner traveling, I expected, paid for and NEEDED internet. I was tempted to give a 1 star review for this because this was my only requirement when looking for a place as I am responsible for running a business regardless if I am on vacation. to say this situation was stressful is an understatement. so, If you don't need internet, then this can be a great place to stay. If you do need internet and they say they have internet, I suggest you clarify the quality of the internet connectivity prior to booking. when you have to hang out the window, standing on one toe while asking the wind to blow a certain direction to get one bar... that is not internet connectivity. the other misleading piece is that you are not out there on your own in the middle of nowhere as the pictures suggest. this is a literal guest house off of the main house about 20 feet from the main house garage, backyard and pool. so, just be aware that you will feel the need to be respectful while using the pool and if you like to blast music, then your host will hear it. other than those 2 items, the stay was nice.
We stayed here with our two small children and were very pleased with our choice. The kitchen was nicely stocked with dishes, utensils and even a crock pot. Views from the guest house included rolling hills with horses in the distance and a vineyard. Conveniently close to Solvang, yet had the feeling of being private and more remote. The owners were lovely and accommodating. We looked forward to visiting with them and never felt uncomfortable that they occupied the main house. Our family enjoyed lounging at the pool/spa. Having small children, we were relieved that the pool area had a separate fence from the guest house. You won't regret this kid friendly, pet friendly, romantic location that is close to vineyards, Solvang, beaches (about 40 min) and more.
