My wife and I have lived in the 'Valley ' for 18 years. We moved here from Santa Barbara. I am a retired Plastic Packaging entrepreneur . I was born in England, and raised and attended University in Ca. My wife, Susan, was born and raised in New Jersey and was an accounting professional. We have one son in college. We are both retired and very greatful to be able to live in this beautiful Central Coast region of CA. We both enjoy golf and are members at the Alisal Ranch Country Club. We have one wonderful dog named Gigi. She is our official greeter as he loves people!
Dave purchased this cottage in 2007
The communities of Solvang, Los Olivos, and Santa Ynez are located in one of the most picturesque valleys located on the Central Coast of CA. Coming into the region from Santa Barbara over the mountains on Hwy. 154 has some of the most breathtaking views you will see! The rolling hills with magnificent horse facilities, and abundant wine vineyards as seen in the movie 'Sideways' are truly spectacular. The activities, ie, museums, shopping, restaurants, biking etc. in all 3 communities afford us and visitors plenty to see and do !! All of the communities are unique, quaint and have styles of their own.... yet are very close together and easy to enjoy!!
Golf in the area is X'lnt.and reasonable! There is the Alisal River Course, public with monthly passes available in Solvang( very walkable). The more challenging and acclaimed courses of La Purisima and Rancho San Marcos are public and offer cost saving packages within 15min. Within 45 min. you have fabulous courses with Ocean Views, Ocean holes ,good rates and accessibility in Santa Barbara, Lompoc, Nipomo and Arroyo Grande.
We also enjoy the WEATHER!! We typically get 340 days a year of SUNSHINE!!!!,
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! We are in a very rural setting yet convienient to all activities the 'Valley' has to offer. A beautiful setting on 10 acres, very private yet all the comforts for a... ' LIKE at HOME' stay. Our guest House is spacious ... 870sq. ft. ...with great views and a very open yet cozy floor plan !!!
We spent the weekend at this guest house and we could not have had a better stay. Located on the rolling hills above the town of Ballard, the guest house has sweeping views of the surrounding countryside, and feels very private. It's also very clean and very well appointed, and our host, Dave, could not have been nicer and more accommodating. We will definitely be back!
My husband and I have been coming the Valley for over 30 years. We have stayed at just about every inn, hotel, motel, etc. there is available. This time we decided to try a guest house. After reading many property reviews we settled on Dave and Susan's place. It turned out to be a very good decision. We found Dave and Susan to be very warm and friendly. The guest house was very clean and cozy. It had all the comforts of home. We love to cook and found the kitchen well stocked with all the modern conveniences. The views from the deck were spectacular. The house is also centrally located to wineries, shopping and dining. We will be staying again soon.
We have stayed in Solvang many times, and love the area. This time we stayed longer, so looked for a larger place with a kitchen. It would not be possible to find a better place than this casita. The king bed is superb (my husband is 6'7" - this matters!), the kitchen very well equipped, the living areas comfortable and well furnished, and the balcony that runs the length of the house offers gorgeous views across the countryside (also seen from inside the house), a gas grill and comfortable chairs. The stars at night are stunning. There is a washer and dryer, a real plus for a longer trip. It is also very central to the Santa Rita Hills area, the wineries around Los Olivos, and the Foxen Wine Trail. It is very quiet, save for the birds. It is also immaculate. We already look forward to our next stay.
It was our first time in this great countryside! The house was very clean, cozy and fully equipped. The owners were very helpful with hints and suggestions. We spent 3 days at Los Olivos and the surrounding area in August my husband and I with our two teenagers and we recommand this location without hesitation. Charming and peaceful area to discover!
We had an amazing time at this home. David was so wonderful and made sure we got everything we needed. The location is perfect and so close to downtown Los Olivos, Santa Ynez, and great wineries. Our dog, Riley, even had an amazing time.
The quietness, phenomenal views, and close proximity to Los Olivos and Solvang make staying at this property an exceptional value. The owners are wonderful people, very helpful. My wife and I are cyclists, and this was the perfect hub for a week of spectacular rides. I would highly recommend this house to anyone looking to vacation in this area!
