About Steve Young

I grew up in Southern Illinois, and could not wait to 'Get Out,' 'Escape,' and go to the big city. I went to school in Chicago at the Illinois Institute of Technology, and left Southern Illinois far behind. I thought this was great.

I had a very successful career in the online advertising, marketing, and market research world catering to big pharma. In a normal year I would fly 125,000 miles and see many places, countries and sites.

As I grew older and my 'success' continued I felt more and more that something was missing. I began to yearn for the hills of Southern Illinois, the slower pace of life, and the people I left behind more and more.

I 2013, I came home for a few weeks to help my mother move my father into a nursing home. After this was completed I flew to Milan for business, and on my way back I received a call that my mother had had a stroke. This was a life changing event for me, and I never really went home.

My father spent the year getting worse, and my Mother spent the year getting better. When my father died in December of 2013, I decided to 'officially' move to Southern Illinois in order to spend more time with my mother and be closer with family. I also made the decision to leave the company I worked for and do something simpler, and local to Southern Illinois.

June 1st, 2014 I started my company with the goal to create vacation rental homes in Southern Illinois and help the area grow tourism. Southern Illinois is a beautiful and special place, and I would like to share it with as many people as possible.

Why Steve Young chose Buncombe

This property was an old Bed and Breakfast, and the view was spectacular. The property was foreclosed on and a friend that I went to high school with had purchased it and remodeled the main house. The property also has a guesthouse that I am in the process of refurbishing.

Once the guesthouse is refurbished the property will sleep a maximum of 16 people, or can be rented to separate parties in the main house and guesthouse.

The proximity toe wineries, and area attractions is also great for this property.

The Toolshed Corner House is a GREAT family get-a-way!!!

The Toolshed Corner house was wonderful for our family. There was 8 of us total and plenty of room for everyone. We enjoyed grilling out on the back porch and looking over the country setting. Weather could have been better, but that was out of anyone’s control. We enjoyed visiting the wineries and the kids loved the Shawnee Hills Zipline, it was the highlight of the trip for them. For the adults it was the wineries. Blue Sky was just up the road as was Starview. We got to see the bison grazing down the road across from Starview and spent a lot of time hiking. Our favorite hike was Panther’s Den which was just a couple miles from the house. We also enjoyed time at Giant City State Park which was only about 15 minutes away and had wonderful fried chicken at the lodge. The house had some cards and games in the closet so we enjoyed our family time playing those as well. We liked the house so much that we hope to come back this fall and see more that the area has to offer. Steve was a great host and answered many of our questions promptly. We highly recommend this house and area as a nice weekend getaway.

Great Home Close to EVERYTHING!

We really enjoyed Tool Shed Cabin! Two families shared with plenty of space for two couples, four kids and a teenager! House was comfortable, had all of the amenities you would expect. Plenty of hot water for showers, comfy beds, spacious rooms and really close to the wine trail and Giant City, and the attractions/hiking etc! You won’t be disappointed. I also want to point out that is was super clean!

Great Place

We were up here enjoying the season of deer hunting. Very clean, kitchen was useful to make suppers after a long day of hunting. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Wine getaway with friends

This is our second time at this property. Nice place. Have to let you know the couch is REALLY breaking down. Cushions are flat. This was our first time to the wine trail in the fall. Probably won't go in the fall again. Way too crowded for our taste. Would consider staying at this property again, but would really like to see the small cabin right next door.

This a very nice rental home tucked away in a quiet rural area. It was very comfortable for our group of 3 adults and 3 kids. We didn't have a chance to take advantage of as many activities or parks as we would have liked, but we did visit the Blue Sky Vineyard and Shawnee Bluffs Canopy Tour, both less than 10 minutes away.

The house itself was great. The bedrooms were comfortable and everything we needed was there, including a thoughtful basket of snacks and eclipse glasses! The air conditioning stayed very cold, even as temperatures approached a very humid 100 degrees. Everything was in very good condition and check out was a breeze. The lot has plenty of open space near the garage or in the back field for a telescope if you like stargazing, and the skies are fairly dark, too. The deck was perfect for the eclipse and the skies cooperated by clearing up before the big event.

You will not find a better owner! He stopped by after check-in to make sure everything was fine and suggested some activities and the Blue Boar BBQ restaurant that was also very good. Most importantly, he kept our reservation on the HomeAway system for almost 2 years after our deposit. We heard horror stories from friends about last minute cancellations and price gouging at other hotels, B&B's and rental houses during the eclipse weekend, but Steve was very honest and helpful.

We hadn't been to the area before and it was beautiful. We plan to come back soon for a longer visit and Tool Shed Corner or one of Steve's other rentals will be our first choice on the next trip, too. The location is close to I-57 and not far from the wine trail.

We had a great time. Girls weekend with 10 ladies. We all had enough room to sleep comfortably. The deck and grill are amazing. There is everything you could ever want and it located perfectly for nature and wine. Our only suggestion is a full body mirror somewhere. We got dolled up to go out one night and couldn't see what we looked like!!
