Very comfortable and authentic!

  • 5 of 5

The Tropical Patio 2 bedroom rental was just right for or stay. We were a party of 3 consisting of mom and 2 adult kids and stayed for 4 nights. We wanted something that was really authentic in Old San Juan and were not disappointed! The beautiful, palm filled, open air patio was in the center of the space surrounded by air conditioned 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, and kitchen. The kitchen was well appointed, user friendly and even had a small dishwasher and had a washer dryer but i didn't use it. The unit was within walking distance to everything OSJ had to offer. When going to San Juan we walked to the ferry. Wanda met us as we arrived from the cruise pier and came back by to retrieve the keys upon checkout. Lovely stay!

Impressive Colonial Apartment in Old San Juan!

  • 4 of 5

Overall we loved this apartment.... what I'll say here is some info I didn't glean from other reviews good or bad.

It is on the main floor of a 4 storey building at the rear of the building behind two other apartments. The street (and the ocean in the distance) can be seen from within the unit as the main hallway is completely open from the front door to the living area, seperated by huge metal gate with double locks. Only the two bedrooms and the kitchen/dining room are closed off and air conditioned (each separately). This was not a problem at all though and in fact we loved the space and the fact that it had an open air atrium in the middle, adjacent to the living room, providing sun and rain right into the middle of the living space! It oozed character! And no, I don't mean the rain got into the living areas, only into the once room which has a drain built in and is slightly lowered, like a huge shower area.

The location was great right across from the San Cristobel Fort and the ocean, walking distance to all of Old San Juan. Parking is crappy though, as there are new by-laws that we weren't informed about limiting ALL street parking in the old area to residents only, so if you rent a car you have to use a parking garage or go just outside old San Juan and try to find a spot behind the Capitol Buildings.

Also there is no washer/dryer in this unit.

Overall the unit is very well maintained, very clean and nicely renovated and modernized.. more so then we thought from the pictures. The master bedroom and bathroom is WAY bigger then the second, but it was fine as well.

Highly recommend and would stay again!

A great location

  • 4 of 5

You cannot beat the location, it's right in old San Juan and close to all the historical places. We are in our 60's and were able to walk to all of the areas in old San Juan. The apartment take you back to a time in history, and is well decorated with great art, and furniture. Very comfortable with A/C in all the rooms, and a great courtyard/sitting area, depicted in the pictures.

Only downside is no windows or area to view the outdoors, and the only TV was in the master bedroom , so uncomfortable to share.

I would stay again and recommend to anyone visiting this historic city

Great

  • 4 of 5

I love old san juan. But parking is ridiculous and has been made even worse. Only long term residents can park on the street, while the no parking signs say "residents" I thought that renting a place made me a resident. Evidently not. $250 ticket taught me well.

Old San Juan is the oldest city on US Territory and part of the World Heritage. It is about 8 by 8 blocks of unique colonial style architecture and offers everything from restaurants, bars, Puerto Rican coffee shops, galleries, open air music, and nice paths to walk by the Port & Ocean, tourist shops, Marshalls, grocery store to a drug store with pharmacy. The closest unofficial beach is in front of the Capitol Building in about 10-15 walking minutes from almost anywhere in Old San Juan. The nearest blue flag beach is called El Escambron and can reached in about 25-30 minutes walking along the Atlantic Ocean or in about 5 minutes by car/ taxi or bus. Old San Juan has a bus station from where you can go to Plaza Las Americas, the biggest mall in the Caribbean, to the Convention Center, as well as to Condado and Isla Verde, the other two main tourist spots along the coast of San Juan. Condado and Isla Verde are the modern parts of the city and have great beaches, hotels & casinos & much more... Learn more about Parking in Old San Juan: Old San Juan provides free of charge on street parking, which is usually hard to find. It is more likely to find a spot between 6 am and 8 am and between 4 pm and 7 pm. During business hours and later at night it might take a while to find a spot and it can turn out to be challenging at times. All of our apartments are within walking distance of parking buildings and/or lots, providing overnight rates or hour rates for the additional hours. The most economic parking rental is a public lot by Paseo de la Princesa at the southwest city wall of Old San Juan. There are several parking buildings all over town: “Ballaja” on the northwest section of Old San Juan right by El Morro, “La Cochera” in the center of town on Calle Luna between Cruz and San Justo Street , “Dona Fela” in the south center on Recinto Sur and the most economic parking building “Covadonga” right on top of the public bus station as well on Recinto Sur, one block east of the Old San Juan Sheraton Hotel.
