We were very happy with this large, clean house just two blocks from the campus of American University. We will recommend it to our visiting colleagues.

Ok but needs upgrades

  • 3 of 5

We stayed here for three nights in April. On the positive side the house is charming with space to move around. The owner bought new bedding to accommodate allergies to down/feathers. They also had an early check in option that was less expensive than booking the night before.

However, when we arrived the house smelled musty and we had to open all the windows to air it out. The heat upstairs didn't work so we had to crank up the heat downstairs and wait for it to rise. The lack of a washer/dryer proved inconvenient and though they offer an outside service, we will make sure all future rentals include this amenity on site. A tv in the master bedroom rather than just in the living room would be an improvement. Finally, though it was disclosed, renters should be aware that the owner's brother lives downstairs with a flimsy lock separating the units.

Perfect for a trip to DC

  • 5 of 5

Proximity & ease of transportation to the DC sites was important to us. We walked to the Tenley Town/AU metro station most days (15-20 minutes with some uphill but easy route with sidewalks) & caught the bus up on Massachusetts Ave ( maybe 5 minutes to walk) Driving/parking in the city and even at nearby restaurants & shopping was a nightmare so we REALLY appreciated having access to public transportation. We felt very safe walking and riding as well.

The house was beautiful and clean. The backyard was lovely even in late winter with very little yet blooming. Temperature control was great and there was comfortable bedding. The master bed was large and comfy for one of us, the other felt the mattress flattened toward the edge and made one feel as though they would roll off. We appreciated having a driveway to park in.

This was a great stay and I'd love to return.

Great location for us to attend Wesley Theological Seminary. Providing a home away from home for a group of doctoral students.

The house is very comfortable and clean--a wonderful location and plenty of space. Travel books and other helpful travel info are in the living room. The yard is lovely--trees changing colors and fall mums. The only disappointment was the grill. The grill is charcoal and I expected a better one. If something isn't working-- contact Alex- he will do his best to make it right.

Great location for DC Sightseeing

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in this home at the end of August for just under a week with my two children (ages 5 and 7). We found this location to be excellent for driving downtown and to the Smithsonian museums without getting stuck in much traffic (we parked at the Ronald Reagan building, which for $20-24 is about the same price as metro for 5 people, and saved kids energy for walking around the National Mall.) It's very easy to drive down Massachusetts Ave (past various Embassies and the National Observatory/Vice President's house - it definitely feels like your are in DC). The Museum of Natural History, the Air and Space Museum and the National Building Museum (not a Smithsonian Museum) were our favorites.

We appreciated the proximity to lots of restaurant and grocery options (Whole Foods, Safeway and Trader Joes all within a few miles) and the park across the street (known as Turtle Park, which has an enclosed fenced playground geared toward toddlers and preschool aged, but my 5 and 7 year olds still enjoyed playing there).

The street is quiet with minimal cars driving through, the driveway to park in was appreciated, and the backyard deck was nice (we didn't end up out there much since it was so hot and humid). The house was fairly well outfitted, although the kitchen could use some more knives and larger bowls. The beds could use some upgrade (mattresses weren't great) and new pillows and mattress pads would be nice, both were thin and well used.
