The cottage is located on a residential area in a wooded area right outside Castlewood State Park. It is located on a private street on 3 lots so you'll have a lot of privacy but you're not far from others. It's fully updated with A/C and and heat (all electric). Includes all furnishings, fully stocked kitchen, coffee maker, microwave, all utilities, linens and towels. It's walking distance to Castlewood State Park, which has walking and biking paths, playgrounds, picnic/BBQ areas, and even a beach along the Meramac River (which you can walk, bike or drive to in minutes).
The house grounds are very private with neighbors on the street below. Includes a paved front yard patio on one side, perfect for relaxing and nature watching, and a small fire pit and bench on the other side.

Air conditioning: Two window units (one upstairs and one downstairs).
It's very comfortable throughout the year, on all seasons. The rock foundation of the home keeps the house (at least the main floor) fairly cool naturally. There is also a ceiling fan upstairs for additional air circulation.
INCLUDES FREE high-speed internet and FREE WI-FI.
It is truly unique and different--you feel like you live far away from civilization although you're only a minute away from everything, including outlet shopping, stores, parks and restaurants only a few minutes away.
Available for an annual lease as well as short term rentals for a weekend getaway, including month-by-month, seasonal rentals and even holiday/vacation rentals and event rentals.
If you've ever wanted to get away without going far, this is it! And offered at a very reasonable price, priced well below area hotels. Please note that there is no washer/dryer or hook up (enjoy your stay at the house and leave the laundry for later).
No smoking anywhere in and on the property.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a very unique dwelling and experience. It is not your cookie cutter Hilton. The foundation of the home is 100+ years old, but of course, updated. The main floor flooring is a textured, stained concrete. This allows us to minimize issues associated with having a dwelling located in a wooded area. The upstairs has vinyl flooring. There are area rugs throughout the cottage. The windows are double-paned with a screen between them. Because it's located in the woods, there is going to be natural exposure to bugs. To minimize them coming into the house, please keep the screens down when you open the windows and make sure to keep the front door closed at all times and do not store any trash or food outside. There isn't trash service to the house.
Enjoyable stay in this quaint little cottage. Peaceful. Although there is no yard there is a beautiful state park very close by. Parking arrangements are not to our liking.
We stayed at the cottage for two nights. It was very clean and comfortable. It has free wifi, but there is no television set. We had our son with us so we took card games to play, which was a lot of fun. The owners was wonderful. She emailed me after we booked with detailed check-in information. She sent another email with detailed directions to help us find the cabin a few days before our arrival (something we needed!) The cabin is literally tucked back into the woods. We travel often, and staying at the cabin was a nice break from hotel rooms.
We rented this cottage for an out of town wedding. There were three of us. It is an older home nestled into the side of a treed hill. It gives the feel of staying in a place from yester year. A shaded home with sun peeking in through the windows. Clean with basic amenities. Both the bed upstairs and futon were very comfortable. We slept very well. During our stay the weather outside was very hot, heat indexes up to 115. The air conditioning units, one up one down, seemed to have cooled the inside perfectly. Not too cold and not not enough. Having the sleeping arrangements up and down gave each party privacy. Caroline, the owner was very helpful with directions and having the cottage ready for us. A delight to work with.
The cottage was the perfect rental for my wife and myself and our dog to vacation/sightsee in the greater St. Louis area. It is in a private location away from the hustle and bustle of city life but still convenient to major retailers and supermarkets should you need to shop for food or other amenities. It is about 30 minutes from all of the major attractions of downtown St. :Louis. Castlewood state park is less than a 5 minute drive from the cottage. The park has hiking trails, picnic areas and bike paths. The park was a great place to exercise our dog first thing in the morning before the days heat became too unbearable for her. The cottage is air conditioned both upstairs and downstairs. The temperature in the St. Louis area was 90 to 98 degrees during our stay but the cottage was comfortable at night as well as during the day. All of the appliances worked perfectly and there was not one amenity that was missing from the cottage. The Wi-Fi performed flawlessly and I was able to stream audio and visual content to my laptop and smartphone with no problem at all. The owner (Caroline) was always timely in her response to any question that I had and she provided great directions and instructions to make our check-in to the cottage as smooth as possible. She definitely wanted to make sure that we enjoyed our stay at the cottage. She stopped by shortly after we arrived to make sure we had no questions and that we were able to get settled in without any problems. We always prefer to meet the owner/manager of the properties that we rent. The driveway leading up to the cottage could become a challenge if you are renting in the winter months and there is snow in the area. I recommend this property to my fellow travelers and I will definitely rebook (especially with same owner) when we return to the St. Louis area.
The property is the perfect place to get away from it all, cook simple meals, and listen to owls and cicadas.
It was a very nice place. Kind of small, but perfect for the two of us. Within about half an hour of downtown St. Louis, and about 15 minutes from walmart. It had a lot of amenities, we were very comfortable for the week. Be careful of bugs and you'll be set.
