Yacolt Lodge Rental Photos and Description

Wild Horse Station Is A Guest House On Our 73 Acre Family Horse Ranch In SW WA

Wild Horse Station is a picturesque log guest lodge nestled in the majestic rain forest of the Cascade Mountain Range in Southwest Washington State. It is beautifully landscaped with a pond and stream and fantistic mountain views of Mount Saint Helens and the Cascade Range.

Not suitable for children under the age of 12.

This superbly furnished and maintained log home with 73 acres of lushly wooded trails is configured for the benefit of discerning adults and older children. There is an age restriction of 12 years and older to protect the quality of the furnishing and facility.

Wild Horse Lodge is easily accessible just a quick 45 minute drive northeast of the Portland, Oregon International Airport and 20 miles east of Interstate 5 just outside the historic logging town of Yacolt.

Known locally as "Wild Horse Station", our lodge is a pristine example of a Northwest log home and an integral component of Mustang Mountain Guest Horse Ranch offering first class accommodations suitable equally for equestrians and non-equestrians alike. Experience the breathtaking, majestic vistas of our snow-capped Mount Saint Helens to the north while relaxing in the hot tub on the private balcony off the master suite. Equally impressive are views to the east of the Silver Star Peaks while enjoying an intimate BBQ on the deck off the large dining room. Or maybe just relaxing on the front deck bench suits your fancy in the shadow of stunning, forested Bells Mountain towering just across the east fork of the Lewis River valley to the south. To the west you will likely see the horses grazing in the ranch pastures nestled up against Mustang Mountain. This sense of peace and tranquility cannot be overstated.

For those looking for a more active experience; not to worry! For the Equestrians among you, we have all the amenities. On your horses or ours, we have unlimited opportunities ranging from our tame and surefooted mustangs on ranch trails to high performance endurance racing mounts with instruction and hosted competitions in Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Our well lit indoor arena is second to none with perfect footing and 14 stalls with attached paddocks. Want your steeds nearby? No problem. We have a large paddock on the north side of Wild Horse lodge just across from the lovely Koi pond, observable through the floor to ceiling windows of the great room and loft. We, of course, have a heated and ventilated, well lit tack room conveniently located near the paddock and tack up area.

For those more interested in a non-horse experience, the mountain trails on the ranch and nearby state lands off the ranch are easily accessible and offer casual strolls through the forest and along the river or demanding mountain bike trails with steep grades and challenging switch backs. The east fork of the Lewis River, a wild and fast flowing mountain stream with water falls during the spring runoff is a favorite for extreme kayakers and fly fishermen during the steelhead season. Conversely, in midsummer, the river becomes a slow moving stream with beautiful waterfalls and favorite local swimming lagoon at the base of the falls in the Moulton Falls County Park just off the ranch's southern boundary.

About Chuck & Annette Cowan

Chuck and Annette Cowan are avid equestrians and established Mustang Mountain Ranch as their home and a recreation horse ranch in 1996. This beautiful log home named "Wild Horse Station" is the latest addition and is their premier ranch guest facility. Chuck and Annette enjoy riding ranch trails with family and guest. Chuck and daughter Theresa also compete in long distance horse racing known as Endurance and Competitive Mounted Orienteering. They have 28 beautiful horses on 73 acres with a gorgeous home and stables.

Chuck and Annette were high school sweethearts and have been married 51 years. They own a successful Engineering and Construction Management business and their family consist of four children, two boys and two girls, five grandsons all of whom worked at the ranch growing up, and a great grandson born in April 2014. They cherish sharing the rural lifestyle with family and friends.

Chuck & Annette Cowan purchased this lodge in 2015

Why Chuck & Annette Cowan chose Southwest Washington

It is close and esasily access able to the major metropolitan centers of Portland, Vancouver, WA, Tacoma and Seattle yet feels a million miles away. Staying connected with family and business associates is easy with good cell and wifi service. Wild Horse Station is clearly a step above the typical rental guest facility.

What makes this lodge unique

Enjoy the peace and quiet of country living while enjoying all of mother natures most beautiful views to include exotic birds at certain times of the year, deers and their babies.

A free ranch tour is available to meet and interact with our 28 horses.

Best Vacation Rental We've Stayed In

  • 5 of 5

I am not one for hyperbole but this vacation rental is the nicest we have rented by many degrees. The house is beautifully built and appointed. We rented for a weekend of hiking and climbing in the Mount Saint Helen's area and the house was so nice everyone seriously considered just staying at the house and forgetting our other plans. Great place to return to after a long day of hiking. We only wish we had stayed longer. We definitely plan on returning and highly recommend to anyone. You will not be disappointed.

Great cabin in a nice location

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay here - Theresa was an excellent host who made sure we were settled in nicely! The house is spacious with plenty of beds for our group, a nice hot tub, and all the kitchen things you could need. We enjoyed a new year's day hike at nearby Moulton Falls. I'd recommend it here!

An amazing vacation retreat!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, our 4 children and I recently stayed here and had the most wonderful experience. Upon our arrival we were greeted with the smell of fresh baked bread, a beautiful home, exquisite views and the best hosts. Chuck and Theresa went above and beyond to make our experience a positive one. We brought our 8 year old mare and the accommodations for her rivaled our own! The ability to use the stalls and turn outs in the barn made her feel comfortable and right at home. The indoor arena and accompanying facilities are second to none. The trails surrounding the property are breath taking, and were a wonderful, safe, adventure for my very green trail horse. I loved that there were trails for horses and riders of all levels as well. The home was beautifully furnished, well equipped with everything we could need. Our children loved the pool, the trails and grounds around the house, and the fun loft bunk beds. I can not say enough about this vacation rental. If you are looking for a retreat that truly allows you to get away and relax, this is the place for you!

Best vacation rental home I have ever stayed in

  • 5 of 5

This was by far the best vacation rental home I have stayed in till date. It is a beautiful log home with all amenities you can ask for from a vacation home. We were a big group, and this place easily accommodated all of us. We took tour of the ranch and it was one of the highlights of our stay.

Owner provided excellent customer service. Wade pool as inflated and filled with water, ready to use! Outdoor fire pit was kept ready with all you would need - wood, lighter liquid, lighter, and the chairs were set out too. And they had freshly baked bread when we arrived!

We had a wonderful time here, and I would definitely recommend this place for those looking for a peaceful time away from busy city life.
