About V. T. Denton
Having grown up in the south with parents who entertained for a living, I settled into this role in my last years of graduate school. Over the past decade, I earned a doctoral degree in Boston, became a registered yoga teacher through Yoga Alliance, participated in regular group training at the Center for Group Studies New York, and published articles in psychoanalytic publications. My long term vision for the farmhouse has been to build a yoga studio and retreat center where people can connect and enjoy life.
V. T. Denton purchased this House in 2014
Why V. T. Denton chose Reading
I moved here because the Woodstock area has a thriving horse community with acres of horse trails open to residents of Windsor county who are passionate about trail riding. A former ski instructor in the Rocky Mountains, I also enjoy skiing and appreciate our proximity to Okemo Mountain Resort, Killington Ski Resort, and Suicide Six Ski Mountain. Having grown up in rural country, it felt natural to be here but I also wanted to be near New York City and Boston for an occasional trip into the city.
What makes this House unique
Throughout my time hosting at the farmhouse, guests seem most appreciative of the coziness of the home, comfortable beds, the scenic and mountainous landscape, the cheer of the farm animals, and local area offerings in nearby towns (Woodstock, Ludlow, Quechee). Our newest addition is the studio with newly installed far infrared cove panels for heat. This is an "away from it all" experience where you can enjoy the outdoors and tranquility in the quaint countryside of rural Vermont.

House is even nicer in person! Tayloe was a pleasure to deal with
We knew the property would be lovely based on the pictures and description however it still managed to far exceed our expectations. The home was immaculate, decorated beautifully and everything was top quality.
From the start Tayloe was extremely helpful and communicative. We were greeted by Geesia (sp?) who made us feel welcome and gave us great tips about the area. We were lucky to be able to have Amanda come to the house for a yoga class and she was amazing.
Hard to put into words but we felt this house radiated positive energy and great Karma.
We knew it was in a fairly isolated location when booking so there was no surprise there. Definitely would recommend this home to anyone traveling to the area.
Beautiful, huge house with a wonderful location and host. Couldn't have been happier with our stay.
Hidden gem in the Mountains of Vermont
We just stayed at Horse and Hound with our four families to ski at Okemo, VT. Tayloe's place was perfect for our group of skiers and non-skiers. The house was clean, the views were stunning, and the kids in our group were thrilled to see the horse outside. Truly, the pictures do not do the house justice. It was an easy drive to Okemo, and we loved the access to snow shoes. Tayloe was a wonderful host, and helpful on every level. Thank you! We are already planning our next trip back!
Home away from Home
From the moment we walked into this house we felt welcome. Tayloe thought of everything, there are so many amenities that you feel like you’re right at home from the bathrooms to everything available in the kitchen. We rented this house for 12 people total and everyone had their own room and bathroom which made the trip even better, no waiting for to take a shower and go to the bathroom). Any questions we had were answered immediately which helped in planning this trip as well. I have nothing negative to say about this house or Tayloe, her hospitality is something to be envied.
Accueil chaleureux. Endroit formidable au cachet d'antan. Tous y ont trouvé leur compte; endroit où partager les bons moments avec la possibilité de se retirer dans la paix d'une chambre douillette. Situé dans un site calme et rural. Merci à Tayloe!
Beautiful Property, Low Price, Room for Everyone
With a budget in mind, hindered by expensive lift tickets and a large group booking last minute, the Horse & Hound Farmhouse really exceeded all expectations. Photos can't fully capture it's charm. Although we never met, our host was helpful, letting us know she'd be available any time, but came morning and evening to feed the horses without us even noticing! Not intrusive at all, which was compounded by the fact that everything worked perfectly and we had no issues with the house. 4x4 was not necessary as these mountain roads were extremely well plowed! We may stay again next year!
We are 11.5 miles from Woodstock and 14 miles from Ludlow (home of Okemo Mountain). Woodstock has several restaurants, shops, and a couple of cafes. A quaint town on route to Killington, Woodstock often hosts events on 'The Green' in the center of town such as farmer's market, Turkey Trot, a horse parade over the holidays, ice sculptures in winter, etc. Ludlow also has restaurants that you can enjoy after a day on the mountain. Just two miles from the house, you will find Keeper's Cafe which is a local favorite in the countryside. You will find local amenities in Woodstock such as a fitness center, massage therapists, groceries (Macs), Ottaquechee Health Center, Woodstock Inn and Resort (spa, golf, cross country skiing, recreation center) and other services. In South Woodstock, you can go for a sleigh ride by calling Kedron Valley Stables, and there is also a restaurant and Kedron Valley Inn. We love breakfast at the South Woodstock general store -- good breakfast sandwiches and coffee where you will find the locals and GMHA eventers. The closest hospital is Ascutney in Windsor which is about 30 minutes drive or the hospital in Springfield VT. We are also near Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH, at about an hour drive.
