About Michelle Agbodohu

Welcome to Casa de Belle Soleil which is my humble abode – it is a quaint yet simple haven that will cater to your short term accommodation needs for your NYC vacation and beyond.

My home is a great hidden gem in the “NEWLY DISCOVERED” Ocean Hill neighborhood, a subsection of Bedford Stuyvesant. Off the beaten track, rich in culture and community, Ocean Hill is an eclectic and vibrant mix of people and where old meets new; young urban professionals, families and new residents eager to explore a part of Brooklyn that intrigues and tantalizes the mind. Ocean Hill also has pockets of established residents that are welcoming the burst of energy and diverse changes that the new Brooklyn Movement brings.

Hopefully from my commentary you may be able to decipher that I’m very down to earth, friendly and I definitely do have a positive attitude and outlook to life. I enjoy hosting as I like compiling itineraries, providing information to curious first NYC timers, basically providing guests with ample information hence making them feel safe and secure in their surroundings.

About Me: I'm a MBA graduate, a freelancer and investor. I am also involved in a plethora of projects and welcome like minded people like myself to collaborate and share ideas with, from ALL walks of life. I’m originally from London, UK and now live in NYC full time for the past ten years. People may say I am a New Yorker now but I like to claim this on a physical realm especially applying it to the term “acting like I belong”. Once you get this pegged down, there will be no stopping you lol.

About You: I like to feel that you would be easy going, clean, tidy and independent, that you would feel comfortable in your space and visa versa. I am respectful of one’s privacy and trust that you would also be the same way too.

Why Michelle Agbodohu chose Brooklyn

What I LOVE about Ocean Hill?? It is that undiscovered hidden gem in the Bedford Stuyvesant sub section of Ocean Hill. As Bedstuy neighborhoods florish with more residents and great places to hang out at, the changes are rapid. Ocean Hill has a charm that it is slowly sharing with those fortunate to live here. It is an eclectic neighborhood mix where old meets new and boasting young urban professionals like myself with a sprinkling of family orientated fun that also offers pockets of stable refined residents, welcoming the burst of energy and diverse changes that the neighborhood brings.

What makes this studio unique

The area offers great high street shopping on Rockaway and Pitkin Avenues. The area also boasts a wide choice of public transportation subway options with the 3 Train at Rockaway Avenue. You can also catch the A express, C, L, J and Z trains at Broadway Junction, considered one of the largest subway stations in Brooklyn. The Broadway Junction subway stop is also near the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) at East New York Station. Across the road you will find the L train subway stop at Atlantic Avenue. Bus options are widely available from the B60, B7 B12 and B14 connections. You can catch the B60 on Rockaway avenue going in two directions in Brooklyn; Canarsie and Willamsburg. The B60 will also take you to the J train subway stop at Chauncey Street. Take the B7 bus on Thomas Boyland Avenue which takes you down to the J train stop at Halsey Street. These trains lead you directly into China Town in Manhattan.

The perfect, cheap and comfortable stay

  • 5 of 5

I and my girlfriend stayed in this studio for 10 days and we had a great stay! It's a perfect way to visit New york and save money; the neighborhood is not the best, the cleanest, the most lively of new York how you can imagine, mostly in the night (it's not Times Square!) and it can intimidate if you don't live there but, actually, we had no problems, in fact we met only friendly people. The apartment is about 8 minutes walk from Rockaway Avenue stop and 12 minutes from Broadway Junction. Studio is cozy and warm, the tubature are exposed and, to be honest, a bit noisy but nothing unacceptable! It's an affordable, cozy, comfortable studio, it's not Plaza Hotel so don't expect a five-star hotel spending a pittance! Michelle is the symbol of hospitality! She is kind, helps you whenever you want, respects your privacy; the last two days we had a problem with hot water and immediately she worked to solve the issue. The perfect owner! Therefore, I can't describe everything, just know that everything else was positive!Do you want visit New York, save money and stay in a comfortable studio? Contact Michelle! Thank you Michelle, hope to see you again.

It counts with everything you may need, and very kind service.

  • 4 of 5

We got good information about the usage of WiFi, Netflix, tourist guides information and was able to use from an iron, clothes containers, all kitchen and bathroom items and even wash and dryer machines and parking was not bad for NY.

Is not just for ver tall people.

Michelle was really kind, we was really happy.

Wonderful and understanding host!!!

  • 5 of 5

The place was nicely secluded and easily accessible. It looks even better in person.

Michelle, was lovely and very accommodating while gave me plenty of independence. I really appreciated how should had additional resources for first timers in NY and easily a call away if there were any issues.

Hi Michelle, if you read this...I am sorry for the delay. I had a hectic 5 months. Thanks again for letting me into your home. I hope to have the chance again next summer. It was a real pleasure!!

Owner's Response: Larissa was a great guest, I wish I got to hang out with her at the festival she came to attend. Larrisa is very sweet, friendly, independent and comfortable with her surroundings. I highly recommend her as a guest and I hope to keep in touch on social media platforms (LinkedIn, FB, IG) xoxo

Dark and dismal..

  • 2 of 5

Finding the home-away was quite easy, directions were on point.. In my view the apartment was so not what I was expecting, small with low ceilings.. Not a problem for us my husband and I are not tall people. Much more could be done for maintenance and cleanliness, the focal point believe it or not is the LED shower head, and the absolutely amazing scent of the washroom. The owner was attentive, although not there physically she was extremely prompt in returning calls or texts. She also checks up on you while giving you space and privacy.. This is not a property I would recommend or be a repeat guest... As for activities and attractions that was not big on my list as I have family and friends and spent time with them.. The property is very close to shopping..

Owner's Response: Both guests were pleasant and courteous and left the apartment tidy. However, I would not agree with the comment in regards to cleanliness as the studio is always clean and prepared prior to a guest's arrival. I would also recommend to read the listing description before making future booking as the ceiling height is mentioned as 6'0 feet and it is up to the individual to make up their mind whether the space is suited prior to their needs. The photos ACCURATELY DEPICT what this space looks like and what is expected. No added benefits, no frills. Repeat guests believe it or not, do come back to stay so sometimes it really does come down to traveler expectations and preferences. As I host on a plethora of sites, I appreciate the reviews received across the board and have been hosting for five years. During this time I have certainly learnt that there are very many different types of traveler and you cannot just simply please everyone. As a recommendation, it may be better to book hotels and pay the premium if looking for immediate luxuries? The studio is considered VALUE for money and by far is NOT a FIVE star establishment nor claims to be and unfortunately it did not meet your individual expectations. A suggestion would really be next time to consider price as a factor and have an idea that it will not likely be the Ritz for that price but something that is affordable especially on a budget will not really have five star features that you may have been expecting ...

Welcolming and spacious

  • 5 of 5

I enjoyed a nice week-end in NY with my girlfriend these. The host is very welcoming, avaible in case and she cared a lot about privacy issues, something very important to us. The appartement is clean and we are not in lack of anything ; maybe some people may find the bathroom a bit tiny but it's not a big problem. Even if it is not that close to Manhattan, the appartement is close to some useful metro lines (Trains A and C) and the Broadway Junction station which is a hub linking many lines. Sometimes we got to change line in downtown Brooklyn.

This appartement seems to be a nice value for money.

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure hosting Jeremie's stay. Both him and his girlfriend were very friendly and sweet. They got around the city with ease and we kept in constant communication prior to their arrival. They both kept the space neat and tidy. I recommend them as guests and they are welcome back anytime they are in NYC x

CASA DE BEL SOLEIL HOUSE MANUAL

Welcome to Casa de Bel Soleil. You will find your NYC stay here very comfortable, laid back and certainly pleasurable.

IMPORTANT: Recycling: Please recycle any garbage you have. Plastic and glass should be kept in one bag and regular garbage in another. Please keep paper and cardboard together as well. Recycling is big in NYC and it saves a LOT of time having to go through and separating as it can be cumbersome. We all want to work smarter and definitely NOT harder.

1)You can use all cooking utensils (including Pots, Pans), appliances and cutlery during your stay. Please be cautious in your cooking especially ensuring that the gas stove and other cooking appliances are completely turned off after use.
2)Please maintain upkeep on common areas such as bathroom and kitchen after using. Please clean bathroom and wipe down kitchen surface and cooker once finished.
3)Should you have guests come out to stay during your visit please be aware that there will be an additional charge per night for their stay (as stated on the website).
4)Once given a key, you will be responsible for locking up after yourself if you are the last person to leave for the day.

The house manual is subject to change from time to time with additional information being added to it. Please watch out for updates where necessary – many thanks.
