About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

Our vacation home is in a quiet location only a short walking distance to Betsie Bay and the beautiful Lake Michigan beach. The Betsie Valley Trail, shops and restaurants and marina are right around the corner. The home is newly renovated and we did recover the natural wood floors and added a new wood floor in the living area.

The house has a roomy living space with a fireplace and a comfortable seating arrangement with plenty of natural daylight. Both private bedrooms have easy access to the bathroom. The spacious dining room has plenty of seating for a large family.

The large open kitchen has a dishwasher, gas stove, drinking water filter, full-size refrigerator and more-than-adequate counter space as well as all the utensils and dishes you'll need for your vacation.

Our large, fenced-in yard with picnic table and barbecue gas grill invites you and your family to enjoy outside dinning.

About Wil

It was always our dream to live on the shores of Lake Michigan after we spent the last 10 years sailing on a lake in Wisconsin. Frankfort offers everything we like, i.e. sustainable living, farmer's markets, biking, paddling, and skiing (opportunities to be active outdoors all year around) as well as cultural events in and around town.

Growing up close to Frankfurt Germany, I always wanted to visit Frankfort Michigan.

Wil purchased this house in 2011

Why Wil chose Northern Michigan

For the last twenty years we have spent our summer vacations on Lake Michigan. This year we visited Frankfort for the first time and fell in love with the city and area. We know that we have found the perfect location and can imagine spending the rest of our lives in this area.

What makes this house unique

Tucked away in a quiet location and still in the middle of it all. Forget the car and walk to the beach, harbor, stores, shops and restaurants or take a bike ride along the beautiful Betsie Valley Bike Trail. The large fenced-in yard will be the perfect playground for our future grandchildren. We also enjoy hiking along Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore or canoeing on the Platte River, both only 15 minutes away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for a great "Home away from home". The quality time we got as a family this week was priceless! Your home was delightful.

Great place to stay near downtown Frankfort

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 6 (including our 4 kids ages 19-26) stayed comfortably in this cute little cottage. It's an easy 3-5 block walk to the beach, Stormcloud Brewery and, our fav, the Crescent Bakery. Bike path from Frankfort to Beulah and Crystal Lake is 2 blocks away.

The cottage was immaculately clean and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. A huge surprise bonus was a washer and dryer in the basement. Also, Netflix on the Apple TV was popular for late night movie watching. There is only one bathroom, and at first, we thought this might be an issue, but it really wasn't at all.

We had a last minute request re: our reservation dates and Wil graciously worked with us on that.

We hope to stay again soon if we can miraculously round up the kids for a week next summer!

We spent a long weekend at this lovely cottage in Frankfort. It was perfect. Quiet and clean and conveniently located so we could walk to the beach and downtown. The owners are fabulous. Friendly and accommodating. We wished we could have stayed longer!

Perfect home in town!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five had a most wonderful time in this charming, perfectly maintained home for two weeks. The layout was ideal, with a great kitchen for cooking and a large yard for the children to run around. We loved that town and the beach were such a short and easy walk away. We hope to return and a future summer.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week in this nice house. We especially enjoyed the yard and the proximity to the harbor, playground, beach and Betsie River trail. The house is very well equipped, clean and nicely decorated, beds are very comfortable, the owners are very kind and welcoming.

Very close to the beach and charming downtown

  • 5 of 5

This was the latest of our successful rentals via VRBO. This time, the location couldn't have been better! The owners, Wilfried and Beth, were very friendly and accomodating.

The house had an addition constructed sometime in the past, now giving it two "living rooms" that gave our family of four plenty of room. While we did stay there during one of the hottest weeks of the summer, the many windows in the house allowed lots of cool lake breeze to come in during the evening hours. Outside, a large, common green space for Harbor Place's three rental homes has a brand-new grill and a picnic table, so we enjoyed several dinnertime cook-outs.

The house is only 2 blocks away from all that cute downtown Frankfort has to offer -- cafes (Crescent Bakery is NOT to be missed first thing in the morning, plus lunch was good, too), deli (L'Chayim has an array of superb sandwiches), restaurants (tried Fusion for our "special night out" dinner and loved it, plus enjoyed Coho Cafe and Bay View Grill) and ice cream shops (out of the three, The Scoop was the best, and we know excellent, homemade ice cream when we taste it!)

The beautiful Frankfort beach is only five blocks away and easy to reach by walking or biking. There's even a bike rack at the end of Harbor Place. Because our stay was over the 4th of July, we saw the famous Frankfort 4th of July fireworks show -- absolutely breathtaking! And then all we had to do was to walk home with our beach chairs.

There is so much to do in the area: in addition to visiting Sleeping Bear Dunes, bike the paved and scenic Betsie Trail, which starts only a few blocks from the house; Riverside Canoe trips are only a 15 minute drive away in Honor (go first thing in the morning to avoid the crowds), and the super charming Conundrum Cafe is right up the street in Elberta -- and even has a bike fix-it store in back! It was the perfect place to pick up some locally made jelly and other unique goods to bring home for friends.
