About Jennings Family

Our entire extended family has had a hand in restoring and preserving this uniquely situated house. The home was originally purchased by our father, W. Stanley Jennings, a Chesapeake, Virginia family physician. It is now maintained by his children and grandchildren. We offer this cherished home to you. When you share it with us, it provides a common cause which strengthens the bonds of our family. Thank you.

Jennings Family purchased this apartment in 1968

Why Jennings Family chose Virginia Beach

If you're looking for a cozy getaway that is close to all the action, then this is the place for you. Our family has always loved the beach and how close this house is to the beach.

It is located in the "old beach" area of Virginia Beach, which is in the center of resort area activity. It's just the right mix of nostalgia with the most modern in family adventure.

This home was once the living quarters of the captain of the Virginia Beach Coast Guard. The Coast Guard Museum, which sits across the street, is a local historical remembrance of the old Coast Guard station that was located on Atlantic Ave and 24th Street.

What makes this apartment unique

From the parking area in front, vacationers make their way down the short boardwalk to the back, where this secluded apartment awaits. Open the door to meet a bedazzled, colorful octopus, "Grandpa's Revenge". It's to remind you that you are here to enjoy the beach.

The apartment includes all new appliances, washer/dryer, refrigerator, stove, HD-TV and dishwasher. It's equipped with a microwave oven, toaster, coffee maker, and a fully equipped kitchen and has cable and secure WIFI.

There is an open floor plan, a kitchen with island and dining options. French doors open out to a secluded private deck. Some parts of the captain's quarters have been preserved as accents for this totally renovated ground floor apartment.

You are so close to the 24th Street stage that you can hear the nightly concerts from your deck. You are right in the middle of the beach action, yet secluded.

The new I-Fly skydiving adventure is also visible from the deck. There are 12 restaurants, the beach, an outdoor concert stage and countless adventures a half block from your doorstep, or you can just hang out and let it go on all around you while nestled in your tranquil private oasis.

Fabulous location, cozy and clean apartment.

  • 5 of 5

My family of 5 stayed here in early July and had an absolutely great time! The location could not be better... Super close to the beach, walkable to restaurants and entertainment.

The property was very clean and well kept. One of the owners was there when we arrived, and he was extremely friendly, helpful, and clearly wanted to make sure we would have a great stay. There is a little outdoor shower right outside the door that is handy for rinsing off all the sand when you come back from the beach. The kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans and all utensils, and having a washer and dryer in the unit was immensely helpful.

We will definitely be back! I can't imagine ever staying anywhere else now that I know how great this little gem is.

Loved it! Great location!

  • 5 of 5

We were there from June 27th-June 30th. Our family of 4 loved the cottage! The location was perfect, just about a block and a half from the beach. Walgreens and other restaurants nearby. The place was very clean and had all of the essentials. Beth was very helpful! I would definitely stay here again if in the VB area.

Closeness to beach was perfect.

  • 4 of 5

Location relative to beach is awesome...just a block away and easy access thru the boardwalk. Location of house is unusual as it sits back off the street between a hotel and Walgreens. The place was spotless inside, beds were ok, family was very accommodating in letting us keep the car on property after checkout so we could enjoy a few more hours on the beach. They actually offered to let us use the apartment past the designated checkout time since they had no one checking in that day which we graciously accepted. Checking in went smooth. All and all a great first experience using HomeAway and we hope to go back to this property when our nephew graduates.

Quite a treat!

  • 5 of 5

The owner was super responsive to email and text messages. The unit was spic and span, in great condition, everything looks brand new. Location as good as advertised! It is cooled by several window air conditioners that put out plenty of cold air, but also a low steady hum. The sound didn't bother us, and actually masked external noise of traffic, conversations, laughter, etc. This was better than getting two rooms or a suite in a hotel. Added bonus was a privacy patio with deck chairs.

Feels like a family friend's cottage

  • 5 of 5

I don't know the owners but I really felt like we were staying at a friend's beach property.

I can't praise the owners enough for their kindness and honesty. The apartment is exactly as described and cleaner than I expected for a beach property. Everything about our stay was wonderful and we will most definitely be back.

The owners mentioned that it might be a little noisy due to it's location (in between Walgreens and a motel) but we didn't find that to be the case. This particular apartment is in the back of the cottage and it was very quiet compared to the beachfront hotels we have stayed in. Sure, there were a few loud drunk people around. Have you been at a beachfront property without running into obnoxious drunks? Yeah, me neither.. As soon as we entered the apartment, it was quiet and our children had no trouble sleeping.

The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, and serving utensils. I made several meals in the kitchen and found it better stocked with gear than most rentals.

You need to bring towels and toiletry.. that's really it! If you forget TP (like we did), Walgreens is next door.

I can not imagine a better place to stay when visiting VA Beach.

We look forward to our next opportunity to rent from the Jennings family.

The 'old beach' area of Virginia Beach is in the center of resort area activity. Just the right mix of nostalgia with the most modern in family adventure, all within walking distance of this historic location.

Within a block you can eat at a dozen different places, play jungle golf, attend live nightly concerts, experience indoor skydiving, jump in the ocean, lay on the beach, check out the old coast guard station or the firehouse. You forgot to bring something, so Walgreens is next door.

You will forget that you brought your car, because you just don't need it. Maybe you'll be tempted to explore by bike instead. Breakfast at the Honeybee pancake house or Doc Taylor's. Try the indoor sky diving across the street after gathering your courage at CP Shuckers. It won't be long before you've forgotten what you did for a living.

You are gonna love this vacation!
