My wife and I wanted a getaway for a few days in the fall. We were looking for something that felt like a cabin in the woods, quiet, and with a view of the lake. That's exactly what we got with the cook house. The driveway slopes down to the lake and it's a little far from the main road and you can't hear it at all from the house.
The kitchen is well equipped and my wife and I were able to cook breakfast and dinner most days we were there and had no problem finding whatever took we needed.
The house is right on the water so you'll be guaranteed an amazing view of the lake from the deck or you can walk over to the steps that go right into the water.
The only thing I would recommend is to make sure you buy Everything you may need on your way there since the closest shop is about half an hour away in Bolton landing (which has great restaurants by the way).
We rented this location for a family get together getaway. The view of the lake is just amazing. Waking up to the sounds of the lake and all the nature surrounding you is very relaxing. The kitchen is very well equiped, I was even able to bake for my family here. The deck was our favorite place to hang out where we played board games, ate and just relaxed in the comfortable furniture. I would definitely recommend this location to anyone wanting to get away.
I forgot to mention...this location has very fast wifi connection :)
My husband and I enjoyed this very comfortable and peaceful home for a week this summer with 2 of our adult children. The view was splendid from the porch and each bedroom, with wonderful cross breezes, great sun through early afternoon and the quiet interrupted only by an occasional motorboat, people enjoying a swim and even better, the occasional loon calling from somewhere out on the lake.
Lots of simple pleasures to be had: we brought kayaks, rented a motor boat for a day to explore the lake and go tubing, biked on the rail trail in Lake George Village, hiked on State Park trails, cruised the Narrows islands on the Mohican ferry (dating from 1907), and floated lazily on house-supplied water equipment.
Loved listening to the lapping of the lake on the shore at all hours, and filmed the reflection of the sunlight from the lake surface to our bedroom ceiling in the morning.
A great family place and enjoyed the evidence throughout (photos and family tree, included) of the family that created this retreat.
Ate out a few times, but I would say the home-cooked food was better!
We survived without a dock or beach; borrowed our neighbors beach to get the boats in and out of the water.
Just a few suggestions to the host:
*the steps into the lake are very slippery. Perhaps some no-slip strips or covering of some kind?
*a few instructions would really help e.g. nearest grocery store/gas station; day/time of any farmers market (we missed the only one during our week); and how to work the washing machine (it is unusual).
But these are minor -- we had a wonderful time!
Thanks for sharing your home.
Fantastic porch. Great location. Good facilities. The one negative was being really close to other houses. Sounds really carry around there.
The layout of the house was very comfortable with a lot of room for a family gathering. Having a large kitchen gave plenty of room to prepare meals. We wanted a place right on the water and close to the town of Hague. This house fit the bill "spot on". Multiple outside seating areas gave nice variety. Spending time on the screened porch is very enjoyable as you can spend hours just watching the "lake go by". It was nice to wake in the morning and listen to the soft slap of the water right outside the window and we were even treated to several nights of a full moon reflecting across the water!! . Watching the full moon come over the eastern mountain was "INCREDIBLE". Would book again.
This location is a perfect quiet spot about 20-30 minutes from the hustle and bustle of lake George village and Bolton landing. The home has a rustic charm and the screened in porch is the best place to spend your time. The owner was nice enough to arrange for us to use the mooring for our boat although that was not initally part of our rental. Peace, quiet, and tranquility on the northern portion of Lake George.
