About Michael and Kathy Farley

A long time Sanibel lover and White Caps Cottages owners. We enjoy sharing our cottage with those who are looking for a unique beach cottage experience.

Michael and Kathy Farley purchased this cottage in 2003

Why Michael and Kathy Farley chose Sanibel

We are beach people. The sand and shelling with family is our idea of Paradise.

White Caps 8 is our little piece of a Sanibel Heaven.

What makes this cottage unique

Respite from the daily push of life-

Sunsets from the porch and living / dining room-

A view of the Gulf interrupted only by sea oats, sea grapes, Mr. T, or resident gopher turtle, cabbage palms and, yes, sand, shells, and the lapping Gulf waves.

If that's not enough for you there are all kinds of activities from shelling to shopping to do.

Our best vacation yet!

  • 5 of 5

When you lose track of what day it is and one sunset and double rainbow run into another and the only question you ask is.... "Where do you want to have dinner tonight?" You know it is a wonderful vacation. My husband and I enjoyed this little cottage. It was truly a home away from home. We are planning on coming back in a few months!

Thank you Michael for all your assistance and wonderful recommendations. You made our trip stress free! See you in May!

We are passionate about Sanibel Island and our very special "Sanibel Beach Cottage" and try to make every guests stay as perfect as possible. We love to have those who too appreciate what our little piece of paradise has to offer... Respite, relaxation and rejuvenation! We are so fortunate to have so many guests, such as yourselves, find the joy that Sanibel and our cottage brings. We look forward to your return and, hopefully, as many other guests do, return year after year. Cheers to you, Michael and Kathy

Never grows old

  • 5 of 5

This was our fifth year in White Cap's cottage #8 and the sense of "coming home" never grows old. Owners Micheal and Kathy Farley continue to add improvements to the interior and exterior space to enhance each visitor's stay. The rooms are flooded w light and you can watch the ocean from the sofa, porch or walk the few steps down the surf. Anywhere you sit, it is pure pleasure.

Owner's Response: Thank you Freda! We always enjoy having you, Peter and your four legged “Children” as guests! We treasure the opportunity to spend time each year to make improvements to the Cottage. Between refreshing the shells in the outdoor BBQ area in the back of the Cottage and the Gulf view Sunset seating area right outside the porch door, the shells reflect the seasonal shells gathered on the beach... this year our “Irma” shells. You and your family share what we feel about the specialness of Sanibel and the unique nature of our Sanibel Beach Cottage! Thank you again for your kind words for the Cottage and the passion we all have Sanibel.

Slice of paradise

  • 5 of 5

I always hesitate to review this property because I love it so much and I would like to keep it a secret. This was our 3rd stay at White Caps Cottages, but our second stay at #8 and the only one I will return to every chance I get! The proximity to the beach and water is unbelievable. The cottage is clean and has everything you need. Our stay was for 7 days and while it is not for everyone...we only left for groceries. We cooked every meal and didn't leave the quiet and beauty of the beach. The shelling is great and you are guaranteed to see marine life. We daily saw a group of rays make their way down along the beach, manatees a couple days, and I even saw a couple small sand sharks. If vacation to you is getting away from it all...this is the best place to stay. Michael and Kathy are awesome to work with and Royal Shell has check-in down to a science!! Seriously, in and out in less than 10 minutes and a couple of much appreciated bottles of cold water.

It's hard to explain, but this cottage feels like home!

What Dreams Are Made Of

  • 5 of 5

We discovered Sanibel Island and White Caps 8 in December of 2004 and the island has become part of our annual get a way for the past 13 years. During these years we had tried several other gulf front locations and truly nothing compares with White Caps 8. Especially since the 2015 remodel the unit is adorable and more comfortable and convenient than ever before. Even though we do limited cooking the kitchen lacked nothing when ready to prepare a meal. The views from the living room, kitchen and screened porch of the gulf and beach are incredible and you are just steps from your beach chairs and umbrella. The screened in porch was our travel companions favorite spot. She is a miniature black & tan long haired Dachshund who loves when the sun shines into the porch. We walk her on the beach and have fun when people come up to her and want to know her name..We call her "Sanabell".

Well I have contacted Michael and made arrangements to be back in 2017. Thank you and Royal Shell for a great stay.

Caps #8 is now a yearly family tradition....amazing cottage & amazing owners!

  • 5 of 5

We were so lucky in our selection of White Caps #8 for our family visit to Sanibel Island! The cottage is absolutely magical & as close as you can possibly be to the ocean. Every square inch of the cottage has been well thought out, beautifully furnished & is extremely CLEAN! We cooked & really appreciated the dishwasher as well as the washer & dryer. (It was wonderful to not come home to loads & loads of dirty clothes to wash.) The kitchen is fully equipped & ready for a week stay or perhaps longer.

A huge thank you to Michael & Kathy for allowing renters at White Caps #8 through VRBO/HomeAway. This cottage is so special it would be hard to share with anyone besides family. All three of us seemed to have found it to be a spiritual place…. a calming retreat from our day to day reality. Our trip was truly an incredible opportunity for our family to recharge, regroup & be together. Our plan is to return to White Caps #8 each year as a family tradition.

PS: Something to consider for any trip to Sanibel or Captiva are the “no see um” bugs. We had read up on this pesky problem, planned ahead & purchased Cactus Juice as a natural insect repellent. Unfortunately, natural repellents were not a good option for our family & we will be using a product containing over 30% DEET in the future. Some of the bites actually stung when we were bitten & others showed up hours later. Be prepared…….these bugs are brutal & could have easily ruined our trip. Please also remember to grab salt, pepper & your favorite seasonings if you plan to cook as well as detergent, bleach & fabric softener if you plan on doing laundry. We went to Target in Fort Myers before we arrived & picked up a few things thinking the cost would be lower. We could have grabbed everything we needed at Bailey’s General Store or the Sunday Farmer's Market on the Island. Their prices were AMAZING…..actually more reasonable then Target.

Heaven on earth

  • 5 of 5

If I could give this rental 8,000 stars I would - and it still would not be enough!

The cottage is so beautifully remodeled and decorated. The sound of the waves is the best backdrop.

The property was VERY well maintained and clean upon every arrival.

The owners provided us with every amenity we needed and are super friendly!

I am hesitant to write how fantastic this place is for fear it will book up!

Have some bike's dropped off and you will never need to get in your car to explore and adventure in Sanibel.

The recreation center rents out shuffle board, which you can play at the park in downtown Sanibel.

We have so loved our time spent here at White Caps!

Sanibel is world renown for sea shell collecting with a Sea Shell Museum right only minutes away from the cottage.

Tarpon fishing right off the beach, with Dolphins playing and the occasional Manatee swimming down the shore line to.

Wonderful restaurants for every taste, and fresh sea food available to take home to cook on the BBQ.

Aside from the Gulf with boating, swimming, shelling, and relaxing on the beach, there are Golf courses, biking, hiking and local theater to attend.

Or, Dine and Dance at Traditions Restaurant and Inn only a short walk up the beach from the cottage, or have meet up with everyone after a day on the beach at the Sand Bar for drinks and dinner.

If you want to go off Island to explore you can check out Ft. Myers for Edison's Home and Museum and historic downtown Ft. Myers... or, go over to Pine Island to see the famous Tarpon Lodge and go across the street from the lodge to see ancient native Calusa Indian Shell Mounds and the Randall Research Center.

and so much more....
