We are Hugues, Olivier and Romain, three brothers, all natives of France. We have been vacationing in Montebello ever since our parents built the house over 25 years ago to welcome their growing family, increasingly dispersed all over the world. Since then, Montebello has been the center of our family reunions and also a wonderful cultural enrichment into our lives. Today, we share our times between our respective residences in Europe (Hugues lives in Paris, Olivier in London and Romain in Venice) and we continue to live the tradition of our family reunions in Montebello with all of our children.
Montebello was passed down to us when our parents passed away. Through the years and many memories, Montebello has become for us and for our children our family home in Uruguay. Away from the busy world in a secluded nature heaven, we yearn to return to its peace and beauty. Montebello has also open our French family to the richness of the latin american cultures of Uruguay and Argentina. We have come to love Uruguay, from its beautiful open lands to its well kept secret splendid beaches, to its well educated, warm and hospitable people. Some of our best family friends are Uruguayan. We also enjoy its safe towns and cities, its legendary BBQ meats ('assados'), and its beautifully crafted leathers and wools. Today, Montebello and Uruguay are part of our family culture and we hope you will enjoy them as much as we do.
Montebello is a very special place. Its location was handpicked for its unique position on the shores of the Laguna del Sauce, one of the most beautiful and exclusive area around Punta del Este. Its 12 acres gorgeously landscaped park ensures you will have the space and privacy you need to enjoy this special time with family and friends. Its unique style combines French provencal architecture with Uruguayan traditional touches such as its outdoor parilla area under the Pergola. Water is front and center at Montebello, between the swimming pool, the laguna with overwater deck and the nearby splendid white sand Solanas beach. Montebello will reopen your eyes on the marvels of nature, from the beautifully landscaped park, to the exotic birds and sounds all over the park to the legendary Puesta del Sol (sunset) over the Pan de Azucar (local mountain in sight of the house) and the Laguna del Sauce. The park and pool night illuminations ensure that you can continue to enjoy Montebello indoor and outdoor pleasures well past sunset.
Montebello is not a house, is a home. We spend the most amazing four days with my whole family (12). The house is of course beautiful, the pool, the grill, the kitchen, every bedroom with it's own magic, the dining and family room, every square foot is wortg the stay. However, the most incredible thing about this particular place, it's how it make you feel the minute you walk out the back door to see the trees with the lake in the background. The morning breeze, the spectacular sunsets behind the lake, the sun light making it's way through the trees. Every single detail is one more gold star for this home. It's a place where memories come alive, where you won't have a vacation, you'll have an experience for a lifetime. It's a pace to remember, it's a place that we'll never forget, and we sure will come back soon.
Volveremos!
Located halfway between Montevideo and Punta Del Este, this fantastic villa is the ideal place to spend some lazy and peaceful time with family, kids and/or friends, far away from urban madness. You will spend your time between the inside confort of the villa and the volupty of the garden. Morning in Punta Del Este, afternoon in the swiming pool, diner outside sharing "el asado". Here you will really experience what vacations mean. I love it. You will too, for sure. Just book it.
We loved our stay in Uruguay and at Montebello. It all started as we drove from Montevideo airport, about 1 hour drive from the property. We were immediately taken by the beautiful and exotic landscape of Uruguay, offering large stretches of empty spaces and softly undulating hills.
Montebello is nothing short of splendid property. It is nestled in a secluded and exclusive area on the shores of one of the largest laguna in Uruguay, a few kilometers from the ocean and from Punta del Este. As we passed the entry gate, the first encounter was the large and beautifully landscaped park, full of local and european species giving us a sense of both exotism and home at the same time. The sound of the local birds resonating in this calm natural environment finished to transport us to this far side of the world we had just traveled to.
The villa is spacious, tastefully decorated and very well maintained. The layout with two connected yet independent quarters ensures that everyone can find space and tranquility. Magdalena and Alessandro, the caseros of the property, were devoted and efficient in their service, proud to show off the house and the park they work all year long to maintain. Magdalena’s traditional uruguayan dishes and Alessandro’s assados a la parilla, served under the beautiful outside Pergola, were a delight!
While it was easy to forget about the outside world at Montebello, nearby Punta Ballena and Solanas beach was the perfect place for us to take long relaxing walks at sunset. We drove beyond the Punta del Este and Maldonado surroundings to nearby province of Rocha, where we discovered beautiful and unique natural fauna and flora setting. Uruguay was a just a gift that kept on giving! But still, we were glad to drive back to our Montebello paradise, safe and away from it all, where life slows down to enjoy every single moment with friends and family in a unique setting. Unforgettable stay and we recommend Montebello to anyone!

Within a few kilometers of the property you will find Las Cumbers de la Ballena (http://www.cumbres.com.uy/ingles/index.html), a charming boutique hotel with a splendid 360deg panoramic view of the area, where you can enjoy aperitif and dinner.
Also really close by, you will find the beautiful Club del Lago resort for golf and tennis aficionados.
Be sure to visit the Punta Ballena, a whale watching promontory off of which you will enjoy a unique view of the Rio de la Plata. Punta Ballena also features the Casapueblo, the residence and workshop of Uruguay's greatest cultural treasure, the artist Carlos Páez Vilaró. It is a sprawling white confection of a place that brings to mind a meringue created by Gaudí. It is Punta's artistic focal point and its most interesting architectural landmark.
Within 20km is the world-famous summer report Punta del Este where you can enjoy some of the best shopping, local markets, casinos, restaurants, bars, nightclubs and marinas of this side of Latin America.
A few kilometers further along the Atlantic coast past Punta del Este, you will find the trendy beach towns of La Barra and Jose Ignacio. Artist galleries, shops restaurants, beach coves and sand beaches, surfing are to name a few the hallmarks of these sites.
