We welcome your inquiries and would be glad to answer any questions you have before booking. At any point you can book online instantly, if the property is available. Please be sure to read the material that appears below under "More Details" and also the rental agreement so that you will know what this property provides and what it doesn't. The goal, of course, is to get a good match between what your group wants and whatever house you end up renting.

This house is on the former estate of John Raskob, builder of the Empire State Building. The house is one of seven that Raskob built in the 1920s for his farm employees. Now it has its own swimming pool and dock fronting on Grove Creek, with access to the Chester River and Chesapeake Bay. The house is fully air-conditioned. It occupies a very private one-acre lot, and across the narrow private road is another acre suitable for games that you might want to bring with you, such as badminton, volleyball, softball, croquet, and the like. You may also want to bring games and puzzles for the evening or in case of rainy weather.

We are sometimes asked what are good things to do at our place. What is enjoyable depends, of course, on what you and your children like. Some renters like to relax and stay put while others are avid sightseers. Many people rent our house as a base from which to go boating. Some go charter fishing or charter cruising. You can also fish and crab from the dock, but to catch the most desirable fish (bass or rock fish), a boat is essential. Some crabbers come prepared with their own skiff, trot-line, and other equipment. You are welcome to use our two canoes for exploring Grove Creek and the adjacent Reed Creek. This is a good way to have fun with your kids or to give your teenagers something to do on their own while you relax. We enjoy bicycling on rural roads—fine for adults but not for children—and we would be glad to outline our favorite routes. Some of our renters come to play golf at the highly rated Queenstown Harbor courses, which you can find online. Still others range over a large area, visiting Chestertown, Easton, and St. Michaels, and even going as far as Washington, DC and Baltimore. During summer everyone enjoys the pool, day and night. Many renters do serious cooking in our well-equipped kitchen or on the charcoal grill, but you can also send out or eat at good restaurants within a 20-minute drive. Many of our renters return year after year.

Here is some miscellaneous information:

For accurate pricing, you must specify the dates you are interested in. Without dates, the "average per night" figure that VRBO/HomeAway displays is merely an attempt to provide a broad-brush comparison between different properties. It doesn't represent the actual rate, which may be higher or lower for different times of year and for stays of different length.

Instant booking enables you to reserve the property immediately, and in that case the quoted price is payable via credit card when the reservation is made. If you are booking many months ahead of time, however, you may prefer to inquire about payment in two installments, the first when the reservation is made and the second ten weeks ahead of time.

Check-in time is 3:00 p.m. and check-out time is 10:00 a.m., unless different arrangements are made. If you are a new renter, we will meet you at the house when you first arrive to familiarize you with the property.

House occupancy is limited to eight people unless different arrangements are made.

The cancellation policy is as follows: you get a 100 percent refund if you cancel not fewer than 60 days beforehand. According to VRBO/Homeaway, the cut-off time is 11:59 a.m. on the relevant day, Central Standard Time.

Sheets, bath towels, and pool towels are provided without additional charge. We also supply paper towels, toilet paper, hand soap, dish and dishwasher soap, laundry detergent, garbage bags, and firewood for the firepit and fireplace. We do not supply charcoal for the grill. Renters should bring their own pool floats and toys.

For canoeing with a small child, you may want to bring a very low, child-sized beach chair to put at the center of the canoe, between an adult in the bow and an adult in the stern. For your youngster, this is far more comfortable than sitting on the bottom of the canoe and leaning against a crossbar. And bring appropriate lifejackets. We have a miscellaneous collection of lifejackets, but much better is to have lifejackets purchased for the specific individuals who will wear them. After all, children and adults come in a wide variety of sizes, and a good fit is important for comfort and safety.

During the peak summer season, rentals are a minimum of seven days, Saturday afternoon to the next Saturday morning—but extra nights are often possible. The charge for each extra night is the weekly rate divided by seven. For one or more extra nights, please inquire.

There is limitless free WiFi for use with your smartphone, tablet, laptop, or other devices. We receive high definition television via Direct TV, with hundreds of channels. The television and Internet are not linked, so there is no pay-per-view or streaming, except to your own devices on your own account.

There is a free telephone landline that you are welcome to use. For talking or texting via cellphone, the property is near the borderline of service (1-2 bars depending on your phone, network provider, battery charge, etc.), so you might have to go to the sun porch to get an adequate signal. Or you may prefer to use the landline or to talk and text online. As just mentioned, for anything to do with the Internet, including video-chatting, social media, and various voice apps or wifi voice capability built into your phone, there is limitless wifi and excellent reception throughout the house.

The swimming pool is unheated, so the water temperature depends entirely on the weather. From early June to late August, the water temperature is usually in the range of 75-85 degrees. Before and after this period, the water temperature can be chilly or even downright cold.

The nearest town is Centreville, the seat of Queen Anne's County. It is a 12-minute drive from the house and has two large modern supermarkets.

The two sailboats in one of the pictures are not for rent.

Again, we would be glad to answer any questions you might have.

Sincerely yours,

Margaret & Alan Fisher

Beautiful, peaceful place with many conveniences

  • 5 of 5

We had a very enjoyable mid-September getaway at this property. The house is attractively furnished and comfortable. The yard is large and private with mature trees and plantings. The pool area is a sort of outdoor room. We enjoyed swimming and sunbathing in the Indian summer weather. The kitchen is probably the best equipped that I have experienced in a rental vacation house. We also enjoyed visiting nearby Chestertown and Rock Hall.

Incredible family outing!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lot of fun and really enjoyed the house, grounds and the water. This is a perfect getaway for big family. We were 4 adults and 3 kids and the size was perfect.

Disappointing

  • 1 of 5

House was cute, property was beautiful, view was nice, but the pool was dirty (and that was the main reason that we had rented this particular property). We came home about two hours after arriving at the rental house, since we couldn't bring ourselves to use the pool!

Owner's Response: When new renters arrive, I always show them the property, including the pool, in order to demonstrate how things work and address any questions or concerns. This couple voiced strong satisfaction. But if I understand correctly, after just two hours they abandoned their three-night rental and went home without saying another word to me until the rental was over. As always, I vacuumed, tested, and treated the pool on the day the renters arrived. In my opinion, the pool was clean and the water very clear. But I would have been glad to clean the pool again to please this couple, had they wanted. For my renters, I am easily reached by phone and email. Timely communication is the way to solve problems.

Cozy home in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 5 days this summer enjoying everything this home had to offer. They had everything we needed from tissues to sugar, pillows to beach towels. We used the canoes, pool and had a camp fire in the fire pit at night. Can't think of anything we could possibly need more. I look forward to coming back!

Peaceful Vacation

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking to experience the Eastern Shore life, this is the perfect place. Boating, fishing, crabbing, swimming and absolute tranquility. I was looking for a quite place to unwind and disconnect from the fast-pace work environment. This was exactly what I was looking for. The house is unique and comfortable. The pool was the perfect temperature and lounging by it was very calming. There a several species of birds and critters in the area. The neighborhood is quiet and private. It was especially nice that I could include my 4-legged family member as well. It was truly a home away from home. We enjoyed dinner out at the local Doc's Seaside Grill. It seemed to be the hot spot for the folks in the area. We also ventured out to the grocery and liquor store just 15 minute away. All in all, it was just what I needed. Thank you for the home-owners for everything.
