We welcome your inquiries and would be glad to answer any questions you have before booking.

This house is on the former estate of John Raskob, builder of the Empire State Building. The house is one of seven that Raskob built in the 1920s for his farm employees. Now it has its own swimming pool and dock fronting on Grove Creek, with access to the Chester River and Chesapeake Bay. The house is fully air-conditioned. It occupies a very private one-acre lot, and across the narrow private road is another acre suitable for games that you might want to bring with you, such as badminton, volleyball, softball, croquet, and the like.

We are sometimes asked what are good things to do at our place. What is enjoyable depends, of course, on what you and your children like. Some renters like to relax and stay put while others are avid sightseers. Many people rent our house as a base from which to go boating. Some go charter fishing. You can also fish and crab from the dock. Some crabbers come prepared with their own skiff, trot-line, and other equipment. You are welcome to use our two canoes for exploring Grove Creek and the adjacent Reed Creek. This is a good way to have fun with your kids or to give your teenagers something to do on their own while you relax. Some of our renters come to play golf at the highly rated Queenstown Harbor courses, which you can find online. Still others range over a large area, visiting Chestertown, Easton, and St. Michaels, and even going as far as Washington, DC and Baltimore. During summer everyone enjoys the pool, day and night. Many renters do serious cooking in our well-equipped kitchen or on the charcoal grill, but you can also send out or eat at good restaurants within a 20-minute drive. Many of our renters return year after year.

Here is some miscellaneous information:

Check-in time is 3:00 p.m. and check-out time is 10:00 a.m., unless different arrangements are made.

During June, July, and the first half of August, rentals run from Saturday afternoon to the following Saturday morning. During the rest of the year, there is a two-night minimum, or four nights at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's.

If you need a fifth bedroom with a queen bed, there is also a one-room cabin as an optional add-on. Please inquire and we will send photos of the cabin. It is reminiscent of summer camp, with pine paneling, double-wide screen doors, and ceiling fans.

In the event of cancellation, our refund policy is as follows:

1. If you paid by check, the entire deposit will be returned if we find a substitute renter for the same period and rent.

2. If you paid by credit card, your payment—minus HomeAway's service fee and processing fee—will be returned if we find a substitute renter for the same period and rent.

3. If we do not find a substitute renter, you will not receive a refund. A wise precaution is to buy vacation insurance.

Sheets, bath towels, and pool towels are provided without additional charge.

There is limitless, wireless, high-speed Internet for use with your smartphone, tablet, laptop, or other devices. We receive high definition television via Direct TV, with hundreds of channels. The television and Internet are not linked, so there is no pay-per-view or streaming, except to your own devices on your own account.

There is a free telephone landline that you are welcome to use. For talking or texting via cellphone, the property is near the borderline of service (1-3 bars depending on your phone, network provider, battery charge, etc.), so you might have to go to the sun porch to get an adequate signal. Or you may prefer to use the landline or to talk and text online. As just mentioned, for anything to do with the Internet, including video-chatting, social media, and various voice apps, there is limitless wifi and excellent reception throughout the house.

If you want to rent a powerboat, you can do so from a local marina. You can also rent a pontoon boat from the same source, but if there are wind and waves, a pontoon boat is not suitable for the two-mile-wide Chester River where we are.

The nearest town is Centreville, the seat of Queen Anne's County. It is a 12-minute drive from the house and has two large modern supermarkets.

The two sailboats in one of the pictures are not for rent.

Again, we would be glad to answer any questions you might have.

Sincerely yours,

Margaret & Alan Fisher

Top notch!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time during our stay in Centreville! It's the perfect place to get away and relax. The house is located right by the water on a private tree lined drive. We found it to be clean, comfortable and very cozy. We loved cooking in the well equipped kitchen and having breakfast on the sun porch. Also enjoyed taking long nature walks and reading books by the fire. We would highly recommend booking this house to anyone! - Katie and Jay
