Chris and Susanne Andrews purchased this cabin in 2002
We bought Misty Ridge after visiting the Little Switzerland area for 15 years. We were told of the cabin the day it went on sale as we were vacationing. We saw it and fell in love. Bought it and made a few updates, like adding in a picture window in the kitchen to let nature in. To us the cabin is magical for the tranquility it offers us. In fact, we even got married on our deck! It will forever be a special place for us and our family.
We fell in love with this cabin for its large deck and the amazing views it offers. It has a ramp as an option to enter the cabin rather than steps, so we knew it would work for some of our elderly relatives. The inside décor with the wood work and stone fireplace was just what we had envisioned for a cabin. The large windows and skylights lets nature take a step inside.
Chris and Susanne provided us with a perfect getaway for our small family (2 adults, 5 yo and 2 yo boys). The view alone was worth the stay. I can imagine how amazing it would look in the fall. We woke up to deer in the front yard. Inside, we stayed cozy with the fireplace, movies, and cooking meals in the kitchen that had plenty of room. The cabin was clean and well-stocked with everything we needed for a long weekend. Since our kids were determined to see snow, we made a day of Hawksnest for snow tubing. Another day we drove to Mt Mitchell, but it was too rainy and stormy for a hike. We did end up getting a wet but beautiful hike in at Crabtree Falls, which was only about a half hour drive. We would definitely return!
My wife and I had a wonderful time at this clean, well-appointed cabin. We enjoyed exploring the Little Switzerland area, had great meals and got some nice keepsakes at the Switzerland Cafe and General Store. We timed our trip well in terms of autumn colors, and spent a good bit of time on the Blue Ridge Parkway. In fact, if you find you need to visit the Spruce Pine Walmart, take the parkway—it’s a more enjoyable and probably quicker drive than the other route.
We also spent a lot of time on the front porch enjoying the excellent view. Part of the porch is covered/shaded/protected (for those times when it’s raining or really windy). Stargazing was excellent too.
My wife enjoyed and appreciated the kitchen, the bed was comfortable, and the many windows provided great views in all directions. The owners were very easy to work with. We highly recommend this property to anyone wanting to get away from it all.
The house is private with a great view. Everything we needed was available! All we had to do was bring food and drink! I highly recommend this rental!
My husband and I enjoyed spending a few days in this quiet mountain retreat last week (September 2016). The cottage is quaint and cozy, and the views from the deck are beautiful. We found the home to be clean and just as described in the VRBO listing, and the owners were easy to work with and very responsive to our inquiries. We would definitely stay here again.
This cabin is truly a peaceful retreat in paradise. We had a lovely time here. It was wonderfully appointed with anything and everything we needed. It was amazing waking up to the beautiful mountain view! Truly breathtaking! One morning we even had some wild turkeys roaming the yard. We visited Grand Father mountain, Linville Falls and Caverns. We finished the evenings with a home cook meal on the deck overlooking the Mountains. We will definitely come back!
The cabin was very charming, well appointed and comfortable with a wonderful view from the deck overlooking the mountains. Quiet and peaceful; yet the location was perfect with so many hiking trails to beautiful waterfalls close by, quick access the Blue Ridge Parkway, and restaurants and shopping not far away in Little Switzerland and Spruce Pine. The cabin was well maintained, clean, and well stocked with kitchen supplies, paper products, towels, and linens. It’s such a wonderful place to stay, we are already looking forward to a return trip.
Cabin is right off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Enjoy lunch at the Little Switzerland café then take a short stroll to a waterfall. Plan day hikes on the Appalachian Trail. In the fall, visit the Altapass Apple Orchard to pick your own apples. Begin the morning with coffee on our deck and end the day watching the sunset there. Visit Mt. Mitchell and the Mineral Rock Museum. Winter activities include skiing and tubing less than an hour away.
