Overview

About the property

One Bedroom Cottage Is Cozy and Comfortable, A True Get Away, Relax & Unwind

Outdoor adventuring Couples love This cute cottage, to get away from it all, and have the world to themselves. It is so quiet and private. There are lovely waterfront views, and all the basics you need to be happy.

Have a bar-B-Q on the waterfront or the screened porch. Have cocktails on the water at sunset, watch the sun rise over the ocean or hang out in the hammock.

There are Miles of deserted sandy beaches just minutes away. Launch your boat at the end of the street. You are in for some great fishing, swimming or sandy island hopping. Go shelling and hiking on the almost endless deserted sandy beaches or on the numerous Islands. We can rent you kayaks if you don’t have your own boats.

Or take the Ocracoke Ferry for $1 and spend a day in the artist village of Ocracoke. Take the ferry to historic Portsmouth Island and step back in time. The fishing is great. There are dolphin pods, sea tortoises, lots of shrimp, oysters and clams can be harvested even in front of the house, if you know how.

Look at our beaches, dunes and Beach House on the YouTube video's below:

• An upgrade to the Beach House is affordable during the shoulder seasons.

Horse Riding on Cedar Island Beach (40 Seconds)

The Cedar Island National Wildlife Refuge is 14,480 acres of Nature. That is 50 acres of wilderness per person at peak season. You can’t find that on the developed outer banks. Fishing, Hunting, Photography, Bird watching and Wildlife Observation are all encouraged in this bountiful park. Try to find that any where else. The official State Park Website is http://www.fws.gov/refuges/profiles/index.cfm?id=42531

If you love nature, Cedar Island is the “Hub of the Universe”.

Why Rodney Farnsworth III chose Coastal North Carolina

I personally designed and built a 56 foot catamaran that sleeps 14, and sailed up and down the Atlantic coast looking for the best place to retire. If you like breathtaking beauty, friendly people and unspoiled waterfront, on an island that is 97% wilderness preserve. There is no place else like Cedar Island

The only other place I seriously considered living was the gulf side of Key Largo. The winter is warmer, but the summer is boiling. A tiny lot on a canal cost twice what my 270 degree ocean view harbor house has on three acres. I prefer the less developed and less regulated Cedar Island National Nature Preserve. If you want privacy, tranquility, friendly locals, and endless naturist adventures, you will love Cedar Island. But don’t tell anyone! Let them go to Florida.

Secluded and relaxing get-a-way

  • 5 of 5

We visited this property for a relaxing weekend and it was perfect, exactly as described in the owner's description. . . On the edge of the island, yet close enough to town. We enjoyed the chairs in the yard which overlooked the ocean as well as playing in the ocean and finding many hermit crabs and other sea creatures. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the house had Direct TV! Just a short drive away, we found a great little convenient store where we bought groceries and supplies, a delicious restaurant where we played pool, and the least crowded beach I've ever seen! There's also a ferry ride to Cape Hatteras Lighthouse from the island which we'd like to do on our next trip.

Great little place and wonderful, friendly community!

Very quiet and cozy

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the cottage, we are interested in relocating in the Cedar Island area. Lola Rd is very quiet, we biked to the end were the boat ramp is, stopped in to see the Ranger who was great about giving us history and information on the area. I would take the ferry over to Ocracoke. It was an adventure. You definitely want to bring bottled water!

Sleepy Cedar Island

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed bringing the dogs but that's

where it ended.

This place is small which we knew but

the kitchen is in dire need of an upgrade. Very basic. Cut my hand twice on the

knife provided.

We took the ferry to Ocracoke and Cape Lookout. Just keep in

mind

this is an all day affair. There is nothing to do on Cedar Island. No restaurants, etc. and one grocery store with just the basics. We lost electricity one afternoon and didn't regain it until that evening. It was on and off that night and we lost internet the last few days. When you lose electricity, you lose everything even water. This happens a lot on the island. We found it hard to leave the dogs not knowing if the electricity would go out and it was hot! The sound beaches are dirty with dog feces and old tires. The mosquitoes are bad!! We left a day earlier than planned. Just ran out of things to do. I would pass on this one unless you know the area.

Fantastic time!!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time at the Cottage. It had everything that we were looking for to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Cedar Island.

We had a great time Kayaking through the Sound and also the great opportunity to travel with Cheryl on the beach. We even got to see the wild ponies!!

Rodney is very attentive and will provide you with all details you need for arrival. We had a great time.

Bring bug spray and have fun.

Car: necessary

This uniquely private and remote property is on Cedar Island: often called “the gateway to the Outer Banks”. It is closer to the outer banks than any other land mass, with similar water views from a different angle. But is an Island and technically not the outer banks or Ocracoke. Cedar Island is accessible by the Ocracoke Car Ferry (2 hour ride $20 for car. We recommend you drive onto Cedar Island from the mainland, using the “Outer Banks National Scenic Seashore Byway”. (NC Route 12 & Hi rise Bridge).
