About the property

Sensational Vistas / Spectacular Sunrises & Sunsets from Decks/ Privacy & Jacuzi

Picture Perfect Panoramic Views of surf and dunes out every window, all day long in a Raised View, Pagoda Beach House in the round with soaring cathedral ceilings.

• Sunrise over an endless ocean, viewed from the wrap around, covered front deck or the Panoramic Picture Windows.

• Sun Set and cocktails on the back deck, with miles of unspoiled, rambling private dunes in the fore ground and Back Bay on the horizon. The location is so surreal you will think you are in a dreamy a movie, or a Hollywood backdrop. But Wake up and take the vacation you deserve ! This is living.

Before you dismiss my description as silly hyperbole. Please watch the quick Panoramic Video on YouTube, of the beach, dunes and house.

(you tube video link below)

The round house on the beach is 1200 Square Feet of Pure Heaven, with soaring cathedral ceilings, and panoramic vista's everywhere.

Jacuzzi Mater Bath in Master Bedroom.

Guest Bath with Shower:

Maximum of 4 Guests. (children count, we need to protect the environment and our delicate Beach septic system)

The tranquility symphony of nature is all you will hear.

Exceptional privacy. You can even walk down the beach where there is no one for miles.

• 4 Wheel Drive is recommend for even more fun. (SEE Access info Below)

Gourmet Kitchen, wrap around decks, central AC.

• Bring your boat and water toys.

• This is Cedar Island. Called the “Gate way to outer Banks”. You can take the Ocracoke Ferry or dive over the Route 12 Highway Bridge, and though a very scenic waterfronts and moors on both sides of the road for the last 20 miles.

• Amazing water views, Sunrises AND Sunsets over the water, privacy, peace and quiet, virgin beaches and dunes, all for a truly affordable price. If you want a true get away without vacationing crowds, you found it.

• Make a day visit to Ocracoke, and the outer banks. The ferry is minutes away, at the end of our private dune road. Ride the ferry to Ocracoke for $1. Rent a golf cart, browse the artists shops, dine on the waterfront and come back that evening for $1. Your privacy, peace and quiet are waiting. If you want a true get away, this beach house is love at first sight.

• Bring your bicycle, boat, kayak or wind surfer, and other water toys. See the list of activities you can enjoy on Cedar Island.

• There is a new beautiful boat ramp at the end of the dune road.

• 97% of Cedar Island is Conservation Land. You are surrounded by a hundred acres of dunes. There is 2.5 miles of pristine beaches and dunes to walk, just to the left of the house. A number of deserted sandy beach islands you can paddle to and be the only ones on earth.

• The ferry is ½ mile down the beach in the other direction. There is only one vacation house next door. See the list of activities Cedar Island can offer, at the end of this listing.

• Google the address, (282 Soundview Drive, Cedar Island 28520) and look at the satellite view. It is the next to last house on the beach, and the only round house on the island. Look at the private beach to the left. Look at all the virgin sandy beaches and deserted beach islands you can paddle to. Try to find this anywhere else.

• Naturists should use reasonable desecration. During Off Peak Season there is usually no one around. Spring and Fall are beautiful too. During peak season, a couple of dune vehicles may zip past on their way to the dunes. There are dozens of beaches, islands and dunes where you can plant your flag for the day.

• This is one of the last unspoiled places where you can drive on pristine dunes, without fees or restrictions. You will frequently have the dunes to yourself. The dunes are private property. Stay on the dune paths, and don’t damage the dune vegetation, because it is a felony and a property crime to cause permanent, irreparable erosion damage.

Access (Read this Carefully!!!)

This house is not for everyone. Not handicap accessible.

• A 4 wheel drive is convenient to access this property, or you can walk 10 minutes on the dunes or beach (your choice), and park on the pavement.

• Unless the tide is very high, you can drive down the beach. No permit is required. But a single storm can change the beach shape, I can't make promises.

• At high tide, you have to use the dune road. This requires a good 4 wheel drive. There can be deep puddles from recent flooding rains, or sometimes "sugar sand", from a prolonged dry spell. My old clunker, stock Dodge RAM Pickup (Dodge-zilla) always makes it. You can get stuck, especially if you have no off road driving experience or a mini 4x4.. We charge $50 for a successfully tow out. A couple of people per year need help.

• You are renting with the understanding, that access to this house can be challenging, especially during or after storms. That is just part of the territory with renting a remote beach location. You might have to walk, but I never have. A good truck and a lead foot should get you there. If you are not comfortable with this, you should discuss it with the owner, rent a 4 wheel drive truck or consider a less remote vacation. No prima donnas please.

• There are only a hand full of places left in the USA with this kind of beach front wilderness. The privacy is a result of this challenging access.

• Breathtaking Views out every window and deck, in every direction.

• Super Sunrises directly over Pamlico Sound, viewed from the front deck and living room with 90 miles of Pamlico Sound in front of you. This is North America’s largest salt water lagoon (30 miles wide by 90 miles long). It is an inland, protected ocean.

• Hundreds of Acres of Dunes and Dune roads, with Back Bay in the back drop.

Boating And Water Recreation

• The water in front of the house is shallow at low tide. Great for wading. Pamlico Sound is considered protected waters, but can have major wind driven seas and surf. You are likely to have a mixture of calm and breaking surf. The boat launch ramp is at the ferry terminal, ½ mile away. Bringing boats up to the property depends on the draft of the boat and the tide. Bring your water toys. There will be plenty of opportunity to use them.

Why Rodney Farnsworth III chose Cedar Island

I personally designed and built a 56 foot catamaran that sleeps 14, and sailed up and down the Atlantic coast looking for the best place to retire. There is no place else like Cedar Island. If you like breathtaking beauty, unspoiled beaches and waterfront views, on an island that is 97% wilderness preserve, you have found it.

The only other place I even considered was the gulf side of Key Largo, which is nicer in the winter, but boiling in the summer, plus much more expensive, much more developed and oppressively regulated, compared to Cedar Island. If you want privacy, tranquility, friendly locals, and endless Natural adventures: you will love Cedar Island. But don’t tell anyone! Let them go to Florida.

Sedcluded paradise!

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough about our stay at Cedar Island Round House. I highly recommend driving down the beach to get to the house. The views are stunning! We came for nature, seclusion & beach and hit all three perfectly with this place. First we launched the provided kayaks from the other side of the ferry. We were able to beach on various sand bars and found crabs, hermit crabs and small sting rays around us! The other cool part is there's wild horses & COWS on that side of the beach too. It's a real treat to see if you've never seen wild animals like that. We've never been to the sound before so it kind of blew my mind how shallow the water was that far out but was neat to explore. It made me feel safe. It did end up storming there and even that was enjoyable. After it got dark we had the most perfect view for a passing lightening storm. The round house had everything we needed and it was super easy to bring our own food from home. It was so relaxing to walk along the beach and watch the sunset. There's not a lot of people on Cedar Island but the ones we met were super nice. We cannot wait to stay at the round house again! Rodney is a real nice guy and I'm happy he let us stay at his house.

A true "vacation" spot, fresh and clean inside

  • 5 of 5

The end of 2016 was so stressful that in January 2017 I sent my son on vacation for a little solo "rest and relaxation" time away from it all. An Outer Banks location seemed like a good idea, but the choices were so varied it was difficult to make a decision just looking on line. Then it turned out that many of the beach houses are closed in the winter. Finally, I chose Cedar Island House as his retreat. The house looks great in pics and on the map, but I chose it in most part because the owner was so congenial. It was a fantastic choice; I couldn't have been more relieved with how relaxing his vacation turned out to be. He drove far enough to make it highly unlikely that anybody would go bother him. On the other hand, there was cell service and internet so he could reach out and he could be as available as he wanted or needed to be. He has allergies to pet dander and mold, but nothing in the house caused him any trouble. And he successfully managed to de-stress. He sat on the deck and watched the water. He sent snapshots of the sunrise and the sunset both. He watched the tides and the birds and the weather change. He walked far far far along the deserted beach and collected treasures. He cooked himself little gourmet meals and soaked in the Jacuzzi.

I'm next, and I can hardly wait. I'm bringing the fishing poles and the kayaks!

Thanks for a fantastic house, great communication, and the opportunity those two things provided to finally allow for some much needed rest.

The Most Amazing Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Just back to reality after the most amazing week at the Round House on Cedar Island. This place is heaven. The house is beautiful and so clean - all of the amenities we would have possibly wanted. Making arrangements with the owner, Rodney, was easy and friendly, and he was always available to answer questions. We were the ONLY ones on the beach and the weather was perfect - 70's-80's and sunny every single day. The sea kayaks that are at the house for renters to use are wonderful and we used them often. I would highly highly recommend coming to the beach house - I can't wait to go back.

Owner's Response: My retirement hobby is “Selling Fun”, and I love it. It is so nice to hear my guests had a family adventure they will treasure for a lifetime. This was a Mid April Rental with perfect weather and kayaking every day. Fall is swim-able into November. I love my half price guests just as much as they love a splendid bargain. Spring and fall is the affordable option and just as spectacular. You don’t have to take my word for it anymore. Everyone deserves a great vacation ! I hope we see you soon. Best Wishes Rodney

Amazingly Serene

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I have been to the Roundhouse twice. It's an easy weekend getaway from New Bern. From the time you leave the paved main road and travel the sand to Round house, you enter into a spiritual trance, where time ceases, along with worries, stress and anxiety. The pristine beauty of the sea is only slightly more well done than the house itself, with polished hardwood, a wall of glass, full kitchen. Three Thumbs up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dont know where the third thumb came from, but its worth it.

Best Vacation Ever!

  • 5 of 5

We had the best time at the Round House! Rodney was so helpful answering my questions in the weeks leading up to our stay, and Shawn met us as soon as we arrived and showed us to the house. The house was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. And the windows! Each morning the whole house would light up with the sunrise. We were able to walk or run the beach everyday and hardly ran into anyone. If this is the kind of vacation you are looking for this is the place! We met the people staying at House next door and they were fantastic- invited us for a clam bake and Later in the week to their parents house for dinner. Everyone in town is so nice, so if you have the opportunity to I suggest making new friends! You can take the ferry to ocracoke for the day, which we did. However if you are staying for less than a week I recommend just staying at the house! The ferry ride is over 2 hours so you do spend a lot of time traveling. But ocracoke is a very cool little island to explore. Overall I highly recommend this house for a getaway- you will not regret it!
