This 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath (approx. 1,600 sq. ft.) home is a Hurricane Ike survivor. Built in 1915, this home was stabilized and restored from 2009- 2014. Though completely updated, the kitchen and baths feature numerous period details offering visitors the experience of staying in a truly historic property.
The master bedroom has a queen size bed, with a private screened porch, and private bath with shower.
One guest bedroom has a queen sized bed, while the 3rd bedroom has a full sized. The guest bedrooms share a second bath, which includes a refinished antique claw foot tub, with shower fixture. Bedrooms and baths include professionally laundered, quality linens.
The kitchen comes well equipped with a nice selection of appliances (toaster, blender, crock pot, mixer, rice cooker, coffee pot...), cookware, bake ware, serving ware, and flatware, etc. There is a half bath, as well as separate laundry room downstairs for your convenience.
The dining room includes a 72" dining table with seating for 8.
The cozy back garden features a spacious patio, with dining/ seating for 4, charcoal grill, and covered porch .
There is off street parking for one off of the alley with back garden entrance.

My name is Bill Salario , and my partner is Donald Tomek. We both live and work in Houston, but are Islanders every chance we get! Donald (Bachelor of Industrial Technology, University of Houston 1976) had his own HVAC company for 16 years, before following his dream of buying and renovating old homes in the inner city Houston neighborhood of The Heights. He became a realtor in 2001, and a broker in 2008 (Donald Charles Properties).
I am a landscape designer in Houston (bachelor Landscape Architecture, LSU 1984), and recently closed my design/ build/ maintenance business in February, 2016, after 28 years. I now provide consulting services (William Salario Design, Inc.). I have also pursued an interest in home renovation/ restoration, with a focus on the total package of architecture, interior design, and garden.
Galveston has an unbelievable stock of historic homes, with an assortment of architectural styles to appeal to many tastes. We purchased our first home in 2006, a Craftsman bungalow , and completely updated it. We proceeded to purchase and renovate 4 additional homes (3 after hurricane Ike).
We take pride in letting the uniqueness of each property dictate the style and direction of the restoration. Our goal is to provide a comfortable, relaxing setting for our guests. We also believe that the city's historic charm is Galveston's best feature, and are determined to capture that quality in the presentation of our properties.
As dog owners, we also know how important it is to find hospitable accommodations for our pets when traveling. Needless to say, all of our properties are dog friendly!

Picture perfect, magical place to stay. Impeccably restored and decorated. As clean as a high-end hotel. Lovely, very convenient neighborhood where real people live. And you can rock on the porch and watch and talk and truly relax. Owner was extremely helpful and welcoming. They had to drag me out because I wanted to live there:) Like someone else mentioned - great not having a TV in living room ! It was like what life must have been like in the past - where you actually sit and talk.
House is beautiful! Close to all the places we wanted to go. Walking through the neighborhood was a pleasure. So many beautiful, historic homes decorated for Christmas. I usually rent one house a year in different parts of the US & believe this is one of my favorites so far. We will be back!
We had a party of 6 for the Lone Star Rally Nov 3 - 6. This home in Galveston's east end historic district featured 3 bedrooms, which were all upstairs. Very nicely decorated. 1st bd room had a queen/full size bed of moderate size, nice windows and a flat screen TV. The middle bd room had a door joining the 1st bedroom. The middle bdroom was small, but a small closet. There was no TV in the middle room. It also had a queen/full size bed. Both the middle room and 1st bdroom had a bathroom with a tub to share at the end of the hall. the 3rd bedroom, located at the back of the house, would be the master bedroom. Largest of the bedrooms with a little porch that overlooked the back yard. It had it's own bathroom with a large shower. The room also had an oversized flat screen TV, and a queen/full size bed. Downstairs, the living room was very comfortable, however there was no TV. We had to go to a pub to watch the football game. There was no stereo either, so it was very quite. It is nice to unplug sometimes. The dinning room had a large table that could seat 8. The kitchen was well stocked with plenty of lights. The little patio area out back was wonderful! We loved it so much we all spent most of our time out there. Don & Bill had planted fruit trees and tropical plants everywhere which was wonderful! The house does not have a driveway, however there is a parking pad behind the house which worked out wonderful for us. There is also street parking in front of the house. We parked our bikes in the front. The front porch of the house had 2 rocking chairs and plenty of places to sit on the steps to the house. Again the front yard had a awesome arrangement of plants. We truly enjoyed staying at Don & Bill's home and would recommend it. I would not consider it good for small children. Thank you for sharing your home with us. And thank you for the wine!
The location is great (being in the beautiful historic district), very close to the Strand and within walking distance of the Sunflower Cafe, the Mosquito Cafe and the Pattycakes bakery. The level the property has been renovated to is excellent and overall we had an excellent month here. Next doors chihuahua can be a pain barking in the evening but this is a small quibble and clearly outwith the control of the owner of this property. We would stay here again.
I had shared with Bill that we were coming to Galveston to celebrate my 70th birthday. When we arrived , he presented me with a beautiful vase of flowers to grace our table while were there. We all enjoyed being in the house - even the teenagers - but especially our 9 year old granddaughter who wants to buy it when she grows up! I liked that the TV's were upstairs, because we actually talked as we sat in the living room. Loved the big windows! All-in-all a pleasant weekend.
We stayed at 1515 Winnie Street for the 2nd time in a year. It's an absolutely gorgeous and a very relaxing place to stay! Would recommend it in a heartbeat. We brought our bikes again, it's just so nice to cruise The Historic District and the boulevard on bike. Its central location can be beaten!
Located in the heart of Galveston's Vibrant East End Historic District, which is Galveston's oldest neighborhood. Homes date back from the1860's to early 1900's. You are in walking distance to the downtown Strand Historic District for theatre, shopping, and restaurants. Popular east end spots: Mosquito Café, Patty Cakes Bakery, Sunflower Market, and Original Mexican Restaurant are 1 1/2 to 4 blocks away. Historic homes/ churches are also well within walking distance, as is the quaint neighborhood Darrough Park, which is right around the corner.
