The island house is located on nearly 5 acres of unspoilt ocean front covered in spruce and lupins. There is huge wrap around verandah that faces the setting sun overlooking crooked channel and the comings and goings of the local fishermen. Most mornings you will be greeted by great blue heron or deer wandering the property. Wild life and sea life surround you on the island. If you are outgoing and adventurous you can convince either randal or junior, both local fishermen, to take you out to see pilot whales, mackerel runs and maybe more. The interior of the house has cherry wood flooring throughout with natural pine walls and ceilings. There is a large vermont casting fireplace in the livingroom surrounded by library as well as a baby grand piano. The kichen is tradional with beautiful replica antique gas burning stove. In fact you drive across the 1km crescent beach to get to the lahave islands. Rissers beach provincial park is also one of your neighbors. The lahave island museum is a short walk from the property. About Geof Richards
As an international war correspondent for CTV, my wife, Bobbie and I wanted to create a place where our children could experience what it meant to be Canadian. There was no question in our minds, that the LaHave Islands represented for us the beauty and magnificence of the East Coast of Canada and the essence of what island life in Nova Scotia really means.
Geof Richards purchased this House in 1995
Why Geof Richards chose Lunenburg
This property offers a sanctuary away from the the world. The construction of the porch with its face to the rise and fall of the sun provides the inspiration to free fall into what life has to offer. The waterfront encompassing the five acres of forest beckons both children and adults to explore the wildlife offered by the land and the sea. The coziness of the home with its wood and unique furnishings offer families the retreat they are looking for, away from the urban scene. The veranda presents a view of paradise every time the sun rises and sets. Sitting on the comfortable chairs overlooking the water provides an escape into a world that holds beauty and reverence. The wild life that flies, swims, and walks through this vista offer a perspective on life that transcends the rigour of day-to-day life.

Awesome place and awesome experience.
Our stay from July 17 -21 was perfect! My wife and I (from Ontario) were visiting our daughter and boyfriend who live in Dartmouth. The cottage on the Lahave Islands was a perfect get away and completely relaxing for all of us. Lots to do nearby if you wanted (Crescent beach, Lahave bakery, Lunenburg, Winery) but also a perfect cottage if you just want to relax either indoors or out. Our host left the place spotless and ready for us to enjoy. the decorating of this cottage is just what you would expect from a maritime location, lots of interesting photos, books and everything in its place! Would highly recommend this for anyone and although the photos included are great they don't really do it the justice it deserves.
Had a great time and will be back!
Idyllic spot - lives up to description!
We loved our stay at this cottage. Very comfortable and beautiful views. The kitchen was well stocked with most things we would need and every corner of the cottage has something interesting to look at or read. And the views of the bay are spectacular. Also the surrounding area is terrific - driving through LaHave and stopping at its renowned bakery, driving across the causeway to get to the island, past a spectacular beach (and along the way, we spotted some fox kits who were waiting for their mom to come home - just adorable!). Driving up the road to Petite Riviere was delightful and we enjoyed a stop into the vineyard for some wine tasting. We could have done much more, but frankly we just enjoyed hanging out at the cottage. Can't wait till we can come back.
We spent a lovely 4 nights at the cottage in Fools Cove. We travelled with two small children and it was almost as much fun to explore the treasures in the cottage as it was by the beach. A very beautiful but comfortable home well stocked with games, puzzles and books perfect for rainy days or quiet afternoons. We would have appreciated a little more direction in terms of how things worked (garbage, drinking water, etc) but everything was pretty much self explanatory. We definitely recommend it and hope we can visit again!
A restful spot near Crescent Beach
A lovely property in an idyllic spot. We were silly and managed to lock ourselves out during our stay- however the owners were very responsive in helping us resolve the issue. Similar to other reviewers, we agree that the beds could use a refresh, but the house is well-maintained and the kitchen had everything we needed for our relaxing evenings in.
Stunning, Laid Back Home in Exquisite Surroundings
We had an amazing time, they even have a baby grand piano which we put to good use. The house has a lived in, happy vibe, you didn't have to tiptoe around in this home. I could easily spend a summer here!
Lots to do in the area, with the museum a short walk away. Perfect for couples or families. We even swam in the channel!
Maybe bring a few extra towels if you plan on going to one of the many beaches.
Wonderful with caveats
We enjoyed this lovely, well-designed house, its wonderful collection of art from all over the world, its fine library, the great location in the private cove, and its proximity to interesting places like Lunenburg, Petite Revere, LaHave. The public areas of the house and the well-equipped kitchen were very well arranged for our party which consisted of two couples. Loved the porch and the views. Water access is wade-only. We noted the house is about 95% finished – window and door surrounds either missing or done with painter’s tape. Note there is really only one ‘master’ bedroom with a double bed: the second bedroom, which also has great views, has two built-in small beds. The third (tiny) room has an opening to the hallway, so is not acoustically private. We have several recommendations: a printed list of how to’s for the house, including segmenting recycling and garbage disposal. Larger and clearly defined recycling containers are needed. Suggest trimming the weeds around the house; at first view it looks deserted. Last, and most important, the beds and the bedding. The beds are terribly uncomfortable and the bedding needs to be thoroughly refreshed. The mattresses need to be replaced. If the owner expects to attract HomeAway customers, a good night’s sleep is essential. With that important improvement this home would be near-perfect.
