A self contained gem, this cottage sports a full kitchen (with disposal), queen bed, washer/dryer, and a full bath (shower).
An Apple TV drives a 30” flat screen (that pivots to be viewable from the bed or the sitting area), and a wireless speaker driven via AirPlay.
Spacious covered porch with makes sitting out listening to the birds a delight.
Parking is provided at a private dead-end street, with a lighted path down the the woods to the cottage.
All of this and just minutes from downtown.
Having grown up in Austin, I left for the Silicon Valley in 1988 to pursue my dream of working for Apple. As much as I loved the job, the sprawl of the Valley was never to my liking, so when I got the chance to move back to Austin in 1995 and telecommute I jumped at the opportunity.
I built a house on 5 acres in the southwest of Austin that had been in my family since 1976 and enjoyed the quiet life while telecommuting.
To some dismay, Austin’s growth matched (even surpassed) the Valley’s, but luckily Apple’s fortunes did as well, so when I was presented with the opportunity to preserve an additional 13 acres in near pristine state, I took full advantage of the opportunity.
Sean Williams purchased this cottage in 2012
Living on the adjacent 5 acres lot, I noticed in the late 90’s the area’s remaining open acreage being purchased for development. However, prior it being fully developed, the bust of the mid 2000's made everything grind to a halt.
The original purchasers were no longer in a position to develop the property, so put it on the market. Times were slow, and the price was lowered repeatedly.
At the same time as this undeveloped land become available, an adjoining property with a house and cottage was put on the market. Its original owners had preserved the natural environment, so it melded perfectly with its surroundings.
Putting everything together let me get a house, cottage, hilltop meadow, and hill country woods, all minutes from downtown.
The house and cottage are nestled in the native environment, so it feels as if one is in a park.
The view from the plateau’s meadow (where the “Owner Photo” was taken) offers stunning sunrises, sunsets, and 360 views.
Wildlife abounds (birds, deers, foxes, armadillos) and often the loudest thing one hears is the birds singing.
All this and yet minutes from the heart of Austin.
This is a great cottage with a beautiful new interior with a rustic exterior in a wooded setting close to Bee Cave and Austin. I stayed a week and loved it. It's quite private looking out into a nice wooded area. I love staying outside of Austin with the ease of shopping in Bee Cave, and taking my dogs to the wonderful parks nearby including Red Bud Isle and Commons Ford. It's a great place in a nice location.
The cabin was less remote than advertised which actually suited well, spotlessly clean and with all necessary amenities. Me personally, I might have liked some curtains on the windows but this would not stop me staying here again!
My wife and I recently stayed in this cottage and could not have been more pleased. Sean greeted us as we walked up and made us feel right at home. We brought our two pups and they loved the place as well. The cottage is situated in a wooded area, surrounded by trees and wildlife. The place is perfect for two people. Very basic, but with all the amenities (well except coffee pot, so we just brought our own). The bedding was soft and comfy with very soft linens. The small kitchen was well stocked for dining in if you so desire. Overall, a perfect place for our weekend in Austin. We would recommend this property of any of our friends or family!!
This little cottage was a true gem and exceeded our expectations! It was the cleanest, most pristine place with all of the modern conveniences and technologies, but mixed with a rustic "close to nature" feel. My husband and I loved everything about the design -so comfortable and such a clever use of space. Outside, there was a delightful pathway that was lit up beautiful with lights strung above, a big porch that was perfect for sitting and relaxing and watching the deer that would run and play right close to the cottage. Sean was very helpful with suggestions on where to go for a nearby hike (Commons Ford Metropolitan Park) that we enjoyed immensely walking into the crystal clear, knee to waist high water to cool off as we explored. The location of this property is close to everything, but you feel like you are "away from it all". Our kids attend UT and we plan on staying here for years to come on our visits to Austin. My husband and I loved everything about the design of this cottage-a perfect little retreat for two!
Set in the wooded hill country to Austin’s west, the location offers convenient access to the heart of Austin, yet at the same is at the doorway to the hill country’s wonders: Hamilton’s Pool, Enchanted Rock, Pedernales State Park, Barton Creek Greenbelt, and the never ending highland lakes.
