One bedroom apartment on the water in secluded Fairylands
Sanctuary is a brand new, one bedroom, waterside apartment and is centrally located in an excellent residential area, close to the city of Hamilton.
Recently refurbished to a high standard you reach the entrance by steps down alongside the main house. The apartment is actually below the main residence and takes you to the waters edge where there is a large dock, often in use by the owner who is a keen fisherman.
Step through glass doors in to the light open plan living, dining and kitchen area, where you will find everything you need for a long or short stay.
The full sized washer and dryer are located in a room off the kitchen. This room also has a single bed and bedside table.
The separate bedroom has a Queen bed and a spacious area with a large desk, so is ideal for the business person as well. There is a TV and WIFI internet connection.
The modern bathroom, located off the bedroom has a good sized walk in shower. Beautiful original works of art enhance this peaceful space and are an added bonus for guests to enjoy.
For relaxing outside on the terrace day or night, there are chairs and tables and a BBQ for dining al fresco.

About Monica Jones
I'm an artist and writer and my husband Arthur is a realtor and charter cruising and fishing captain. I paint and write to promote a more humane and peaceful world. We are a boat loving family. We are Bermudian but both went to university/college in England and feel strong ties to Europe because of our connections there. We also feel close the United States and Canada because of our proximity and cultural connections through our history. We have three adult children, two of whom live very close to us and three grandchildren, and two ducks.
Monica Jones purchased this Apartment in 1988
Why Monica Jones chose Pembroke
We live in Bermuda and all our lives dreamed of living near the water so that we could wake up every day and be able to look at and access the water. We moved to this neighbourhood during the week of our 25th wedding anniversary and have never regretted the move, as we're close to the town of Hamilton, but in a very pretty quiet residential area. The house was originally four apartments. We combined three apartments to make a home where we finished raising our three children, and now host our three grandchildren. The downstairs apartment was an apartment for the lady who lived on the property for many years and helped us raise our children. It was then used by me as an art studio, but as our family contracted, space became available upstairs for my studio. During 2014 we renovated the apartment downstairs to make it a holiday efficiency unit which is self contained and private and right beside the water of Mills Creek. It is only steps away from the boats which my husband and son charter and where our eldest son and his girlfriend live on a houseboat. We love privacy, but also love to interact with people. We've had a couple of short term renters now in the apartment and are enjoying sharing the property and our love for Bermuda in all its colourful beauty.
What makes this Apartment unique
We chose this property because waterfront properties in Bermuda rarely change hands outside families. We were fortunate that the former owner of this property was ready to downsize and none of his children wished to take on the property. We fell in love with it because it's in a quiet friendly neighbourhood. It's private and yet when we walk on the lanes neighbours stop and offer a lift. We love the outdoors and the idea of bringing the outdoors to our indoor life, so when we renovated the property, we incorporated a lot of sliding glass doors, to allow us to see and feel the outdoors, but also to allow fresh air and the breezes to circulate in our home. We love the muted pastel colours of Bermuda and chose to decorate the outside and inside of the house to reflect these gentle colours -pale pink, turquoise, yellow and pale green, all melded together to integrate the home into Bermuda's beautiful landscape. Sitting outside on the porches to enjoy the wind, the sounds of the birds, the distant hum of a lawnmower are all part of the magic of this beautiful property. We look forward to sharing it with you.

Perfect location and gracious hosts. Would definitely book again.
Sanctuary Apt is located within walking distance of downtown Hamilton. The approximately one mile walk takes you through winding, narrow streets in the quintessential neighborhood, best walked during daylight. The apt is located in the lower level of Monica and Arthur Jones’s single family home located at the end of Mill Shares Road and directly on the waters edge. It is a quiet, private location. There are sliding glass doors on two sides of the open concept living room and kitchen area allowing for nice cross ventilation. There are two bedrooms, the master with queen bed and second with twin/trundle. The white linens and robes add to the airiness of the apt. The furnishings are a mix of contemporary and antique wooden pieces, with Monica’s artwork hanging on walls throughout. The fully equipped kitchen and washer and dryer are nice amenities for longer stays. I enjoyed relaxing with my morning coffee on one of the two weathered teak lounge chairs on the entrance patio, sitting under the palm trees, looking out over the water and Arthur’s docked fishing boats, and hearing the local soundscape. There is also a barbecue grill and patio set on an adjacent patio off the kitchen area. The Jones’s were wonderful hosts, discrete but available when needed. There home is truly a sanctuary.
Jo-Ann: It was a pleasure and a delight to have you as our guest. We appreciate the way you communicated and are very happy you enjoyed all the amenities of Sanctuary Apartment. You are always welcome to return.

Stayed 6 days over Christmas holiday. Clean well-fitted apartment walking distance to Hamilton. Great location for morning runs down to Spanish Point or smugglers caverns. Monica and her family were very accommodating and helpful. Would definitely recommend for a small group looking for quiet retreat.
It's always nice to meet new people.
So glad the apartment was able to facilitate a quiet retreat for your family over Xmas. A chance to decompress, enjoy sunshine, exercise and family time.
Please do visit again.

A superb sanctuary in a beautiful waterfront setting
We have very much enjoyed our 15 nights here during the America's Cup in what we think is a unique and stunning setting. Our hosts Monica and Arthur along with their 2 sons have been very accommodating, helpful and kind. The apartment is beautifully furnished with antiques and Monica's lovely artworks. It is very roomy and equipped with everything one might need. We have loved waking up to the view of boats on the inlet and lush pretty gardens. We thank our hosts and will be coming back. Kind Regards, John and Louise from NZ.
John and Louise, It was a pleasure to host your for the very special time in Bermuda of the Americas Cup. To see you seeking out and engaging in life in Bermuda, meeting locals, visiting guests, while at the same time enjoying the property. I hope the rest of your trip was enjoyable and look forward to hosting you again.
My daughters and I stayed at The Sanctuary apartment for two weeks and loved every minute of it. Monica and Arthur are so welcoming and thought of everything to make our stay memorable. Monica arranged for a taxi to pick us up from the airport and she kindly bought some groceries to start us off. We had the use of a mobile phone which proved invaluable when we were out and about. It takes 25 minutes to walk to Hamilton, and we didn’t mind this at all because it is a lovely journey. A taxi to Hamilton is about $12. Hamilton has an abundance of shops and restaurants, and from Hamilton you can get a bus or ferry to different parts of the island.
The apartment has been tastefully renovated and it is bright and airy with lots of light. Set back a few yards from the waterfront, the views are lovely and we spent many hours on the front porch admiring the flowers, trees and wildlife that surrounded this oasis.
The apartment had everything we needed and we even had the opportunity of testing out the new barbecue that Arthur had bought. The pool was a fantastic bonus and we spent many relaxing days just lazing around the pool admiring the views of the boats on the water.
In summary, this was one of the best holidays we’ve had, Bermuda is a wonderful place. Our stay at The Sanctuary was a home from home and we will be returning again to recharge our batteries. Thank you for your hospitality Monica and Arthur.
One of the most wonderful things about hosting is meeting people from different countries and witnessing family life at its best and most relaxed. Holidays are times for having special family connections which have the power to create joy and happiness for many years after the holiday. You and your daughters really embraced relaxing and enjoying time together in a beautiful place. It brought us joy to be able to facilitate your holiday at Sanctuary apartment. We enjoyed your stay very much, although we were often unaware of whether you were in the apartment or not as you were discreet, quiet and respectful of our space. We grew accustomed to your presence and felt nostalgic after your departure with the knowledge that some very special people had gone. It is our hope that the happy memories created here will live on for many years and sustain you. We'd love to welcome you all back.
