We love our cottage but of course our opinion is biased. Please click on 'Reviews' for unbiased opinions.
That said... if you want to walk to the Zoo, museums, dozens of local restaurants and bars, we have the place for you. We also have a DecoBike kiosk 1/2 block away and San Diego's downtown historic Gas Lamp district and Coronado beaches are just a 15 minute drive away. For sports enthusiasts will find golf, disc golf, tennis, swimming, hiking and running trails all within walking distance.
Built in 1911, our 105 year old stable has been converted to a comfortable 1 bedroom cottage complete with all the amenities of home.
Here are just a few:

Broadband internet access with WIFI and a printer/scanner. HD Cable TV, Blu-ray player, Netflix, Pandora web browser & more. Private fenced patio with stainless steel 3-burner BBQ.
We love Craftsman style homes! Sharon is a Realtor and Michael is a General Contractor. Our passion is making our homes comfortable, functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Mike Bythewood purchased this cottage in 2007
Location, location, location! Centrally located North Park offers easy access to the most popular attractions San Diego has to offer. Great year-round weather and no bugs are a plus too! (We're both originally from southern states) Since moving to San Diego in 1983 we have resided in Point Loma, Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach and Downtown San Diego but North Park is by far our favorite place to live.
Our home is on a quiet, 1-block long section of Spruce. North Park is a centrally located San Diego neighborhood and an easy drive to Sea World, Coronado, Petco Park, Qualcomm Stadium, the downtown bayfront and dozens of other attractions.
Our experience at Mike and Sharon's guest cottage was nothing short of perfect! From the comfortable bed to crash in at the end of a busy touring day, to the "Welcome" sign on the fence that greeted us each day, to the wonderful lemon tree in the yard, the convenient location to downtown in a quiet neighborhood, the well thought out decor, this "casita" felt like our home away from home! Mike and Sharon thought of so many little details that made our stay so comfortable, but some include coffee and tea bags, full assortment of cookware (even a crock pot!), boogie boards and cooler for a day or two at the beach, even an ironing board and iron (with distilled water I might add) if you care to do laundry on vacation! The soothing sound of the waterfall from their koi pond made the stay relaxing. If I could change one little thing, it might be more BTUs for the window air conditioner in the bedroom that cools the entire cottage on hotter days - remember to close the curtains before leaving for the day to keep the unit cooler. You will be so happy that you chose this cottage to enjoy all that the beautiful city of San Diego has to offer :)
The place is in a quiet neighborhood. It was a clean, cozy, and comfy place with everything you need in it. There is a binder with local eateries and menus, which is a nice touch. Mike is also a great host!
It was like being home only better. Thank you Sharon and mike for sharing your great little space!
Of the many various vacation rentals and bed-breakfasts my husband and I have experienced, this one's in the top 3. There is no such thing as "making do" here since everything is provided. It's a cottage so it's of course on the small side but not at all cramped. Excellent use of space and decor. There's a back room where we kept our suitcases out of the way and hung all our clothes. I am not a believer in packing light yet there was plenty of space for me to hang ALL my stuff and that's saying a lot! If you must do laundry -- something I will NOT do on vaca, thus the tendency to overpack :) -- there's a full size new-looking washer/dryer, detergent, fabric softener, ironing board, iron. See what I mean? Everything is provided and that's just the laundry room! The bathroom--- like a high priced resort spa--- is complete with magnifying make-up mirror, luxury shampoo, cream rinse, shower gel... and the towels-- I've gotta mention the towels. Soooo soft but somehow also absorbent (how do they do that?). The big rainhead shower made me want to stay in there for hours. There's also a jetted tub but the shower was so nice, never tried the bath. The bedroom has a chest of drawers, nightstands-- plenty of space for things. The bed is so comfortable! The kitchen has all the dishes, silverware, pots, pans to either enjoy a sit down meal of restaurant carry out food, or cook an entire meal. The weather was so perfect, we didn't need a/c-- the open windows provided a perfect cross-breeze. We were out and about much of the time but managed a few hours each day to just lounge. I found the coffee table books such as "San Diego-Past & Present" to be an interesting, quick read. There are sharp-picture flat screen tv's where we were able to watch the Wisconsin Badgers take down LSU! The outdoor patio is private-- perfect for sunning, and with plenty of shade if that's preferred. There's also a big gas grill out there. The decor inside and out is just as it should be--- a pretty beach cottage. It's cozy, comfortable, clean and new looking throughout. The area is great. Close to restaurants, grocery, park, golf, beaches. We walked the neighborhood every morning. Peaceful, charming. As for the owners, Mike & Sharon--- couldn't ask for nicer, friendlier people. They made us feel welcome. Never intrusive. I wish we could've spent more time with them and their CUTE 2 dogs! This cottage is perfect. We will return.
We really enjoyed our stay! The condo was everything that we had hoped it would be. Very quiet and conveniently located neighborhood. If we are ever fortunate enough to run away to San Diego without our kiddos we would definitely stay here again.
For our trip to San Diego we wanted to spend time in Balboa Park and play disc golf, go see a Padres game downtown, experience the Gaslamp District and then head out to the beach in Torrey Pines. This little cottage is a perfect place to stay for all of that. You can easily walk around the block to play disc golf on the east side of Balboa Park. The drive down Pershing to the center of the Park is very convenient, same as driving over to Petco Park and driving up the interstate to Torrey Pines. Short access to restaurants within blocks for dining. There's many to choose from, but the ones we dined at and recommend are the Station Tavern and Burgers and the Cardamom Bakery for breakfast. The cottage is very clean, well taken care of. In fact it looked as though the place had just recently been renovated. My guess is that Mike and Sharon constantly keep the place in tip-top shape. It is easy to see that they take a lot of pride in the place, and care personally that everyone that stays there loves their stay and wants to come back. We are planning on going back!
Our cottage is walking distance from Balboa park and the world famous San Diego Zoo.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT VRBO / HOMEAWAY CHARGES ALL RENTERS A VARIABLE "SERVICE FEE" WHICH WILL BE INCLUDED WHEN YOU REQUEST A QUOTE.
Here is VRBO / Homeaway's explaination of the service fee...
The service fee is paid by the traveler when booking through the HomeAway websites. This fee covers the cost of providing 24/7 customer support, enhanced site and mobile features for both owner and travelers, plus expanded marketing efforts to generate more exposure to global audiences. Additionally, when a traveler books and pays through HomeAway, they are eligible for the Book with Confidence Guarantee.
Paying the fee
Travelers pay the service fee by credit card when paying through the secure HomeAway checkout process. The service fee is only charged to the card once the booking has been accepted by the property owner or manager. The service fee is, on average, approximately 6% of the rental amount, excluding refundable deposit or taxes. This fee is lower than other travel websites that charge a similar fee.
Refunding the fee
The owner does not have the ability to discount or waive the service fee amount. The only time the service fee can be refunded is when an owner uses the Cancellation Refund feature from their dashboard and the cancellation is requested within the terms of the owner/manager's cancellation policy. However, if the reservation is not canceled and all payments fully refunded to the traveler, the service fee will not be refunded.
