Mike Bythewood purchased this cottage in 2007
Location, location, location! Centrally located North Park offers easy access to the most popular attractions San Diego has to offer. Great year-round weather and no bugs are a plus too! (We're both originally from southern states) Since moving to San Diego in 1983 we have resided in Point Loma, Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach and Downtown San Diego but North Park is by far our favorite place to live.
Our home is on a quiet, 1-block long section of Spruce. North Park is a centrally located San Diego neighborhood and an easy drive to Sea World, Coronado, Petco Park, Qualcomm Stadium, the downtown bayfront and dozens of other attractions.
We stayed 5 nights in this very peaceful neighborhood. Very clean, bright and cheery cottage with nice decor. Lighting in the cottage was great. The closet/extra room is really nice to keep all your stuff spread out. Plenty of hot water for the jetted tub. The outdoor patio area is very small and somewhat 'closed in' feeling, otherwise it would have been 5 stars (but large patio areas are hard to find in San Diego). This wasn't a problem for us, but want to mention it for people who might like to spend a lot of time on the patio relaxing. There was always a parking spot for us right in front of the house. Mike and Sharon were friendly and helpful. We would stay there again for sure!
Very comfortable. Excellent location: close to restaurants, Balboa Park, bus to downtown, golf courses and groceries. Pleasant outdoor space with barbecue. Kitchen supplies are great for cooking meals.
We spent two very fun weeks in this cozy cottage in North Park. So close to everything we needed, Balboa Park, Little Italy and walking distance to shops and restaurants in North Park, a very lively area. Although the weather could have been better it didn't stop us from exploring and taking advantage of their private little patio for a afternoon cocktail. The kitchen was well equipped and the bbq was great have right out the front door. The bed could have been a little firmer, perhaps an egg crate instead of a soft foamy. Other wise everything was fantastic, I took full advantage of the jetted tub on those cool rainy days.
Thanks Mike for your great tips and a new brush for the BBQ,
All the Best, Lynn and Rick Bagnall
This beautiful cottage in North Park exceeded our expectations. Every detail was thought of and provided. Excellent kitchen with full size stove, top end kitchenware. The cozy living room opened to the sound of a koi pond and private patio. The bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub was a great way to end a touring day. High speed internet and fantastic cable made a Super Bowl Sunday on two TV's perfect. But best of all, we could walk to one of the best parks in America. Balboa Park is just a short walk away to enjoy the museums and zoo. We even had time for a quick round of golf without a tee time! Everything listed was provided along with the owners help when needed. We would come back! Thanks Mike and Sharon.
This place was great! We loved it. It is one of the few properties I have booked that looked exactly like the pictures. It was such a charming place. I only wish our weather had been a little better and we could have enjoyed the cute patio with the hanging lights! There was more than enough space for the 2 of us and the HUGE closet and laundry was such a bonus for unpacking everything and settling in for our week's stay. We are a couple in our mid-30s and we couldn't have picked a better location to make our home base. We walked a few blocks away every night and tried so many different breweries and restaurants... Everything else we wanted to see in San Diego was a short drive away (minus the 3 hour trek to Joshua Tree one day but it was well worth it!). We also used Lyft on the days we wanted to have a few drinks and it was a $7-$10 for a ride to Gaslamp and then home from Petco Park. The owners were so nice and helpful. They were around to greet us and to give some recommendations but the cottage was still pretty private. We are already talking about a trip back next year. You definitely won't regret booking this place!
Our cottage is walking distance from Balboa park and the world famous San Diego Zoo.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT VRBO / HOMEAWAY CHARGES ALL RENTERS A VARIABLE "SERVICE FEE" WHICH WILL BE INCLUDED WHEN YOU REQUEST A QUOTE.
Here is VRBO / Homeaway's explaination of the service fee...
The service fee is paid by the traveler when booking through the HomeAway websites. This fee covers the cost of providing 24/7 customer support, enhanced site and mobile features for both owner and travelers, plus expanded marketing efforts to generate more exposure to global audiences. Additionally, when a traveler books and pays through HomeAway, they are eligible for the Book with Confidence Guarantee.
Paying the fee
Travelers pay the service fee by credit card when paying through the secure HomeAway checkout process. The service fee is only charged to the card once the booking has been accepted by the property owner or manager. The service fee is, on average, approximately 6% of the rental amount, excluding refundable deposit or taxes. This fee is lower than other travel websites that charge a similar fee.
Refunding the fee
The owner does not have the ability to discount or waive the service fee amount. The only time the service fee can be refunded is when an owner uses the Cancellation Refund feature from their dashboard and the cancellation is requested within the terms of the owner/manager's cancellation policy. However, if the reservation is not canceled and all payments fully refunded to the traveler, the service fee will not be refunded.
