My wife and I were at this house for a week in Sept. I had 3 days of conferences in Honolulu. It Was 45 min of driving to get to conv center. Because we had this house I was thankful for each drive to the city. The time there was beautiful and sunrises amazing. This house made Oahu feel like 'our' island. Sure city hotels can be beautiful but every time I was in Honolulu around thousands of people I did not feel like I was in Hawaii and so glad I could enjoy the mountain view drive from my home in Kaaawa. We said we were so glad we were there EVERY DAY. Road noise was no issue. House was clean with above average linens / towels. The lagoon was great. A couple schools of fish to chase and crabs to watch. The open water did not have the most fish for snorkeling with but still fun and comfortable as could be 100 feet from lagoon and still in 4 ft depth of water. The early morning high tide was loud but can adapt and learn how to adjust with windows when sleeping. It was an experience and something we laughed about. The house is not resort hotel pristine, it is lived in and can understand any wear as you are ON THE OCEAN. That environment can take a toll on any home (only reason a 4 and not 5) regardless the home was nice, clean, comfortable and furniture good and just like the pictures. First night we missed having AC but we adjusted and managed just fine. The surf, view, and water made up for it. Home exceeded our expectations and was fun sharing with others at the conference that we were at this amazing house and location. We had a coconut wash in to lagoon, had fun opening it and enjoying the milk and meat within. If we go to Oahu again I know where I am staying.
My husband & I found this property on VRBO and were very excited to spend our 27th anniversary in Hawaii. This house is exactly as shown in the pictures… this property is right on the water and has absolutely the best views and most stunning sunrises which is exactly why I chose it. The lagoon is nice and would be great for people with kids. In the afternoons the wind kicks up a bit (but we are on the windward side of the island so it’s expected). The day after we arrived we went shopping at Costco in Honolulu & the Safeway that’s not too far (11 Miles) from the house. We were set for our 10 days in paradise. We found the outdoor shower and laundry facilities off the carport to be extremely convenient. But our most favorite place on the property was the fire pit deck area as we would sit out on the deck with drinks in hand fresh island fruit, cheese & crackers and listen to the sound of the waves well into the night enjoying all the stars.
I’d like to mention that we saw no evidence the “Furry Friend” at all. You do see traps for them but we never encountered a critter. Just our house lizard who came to say “Hi” every morning. While we were there a new washer and dryer were delivered and installed. As well as some septic work was being done. Everyone that came on the property to work was friendly and very careful to not disrupt your vacation. Arish kept us up to date and we had no problems with our stay.
Mahalo & we will definitely be stay here again!
Our family of three (mom, dad, 2-year old toddler) stayed for a week in June 2016. We had a few days of obligations near Honolulu and the rest of the time did not need to be anywhere in particular. Several days we barely left the house - at morning low tide the lagoon is almost dry. Our daughter used it as a giant sandbox (toys provided by the landlord) and tried and tried again to catch the fish and crabs that congregated in the small pool at the foot of the breakwater. At hightide the waves would crash over the breakwater and make the lagoon into a safe and enjoyable wave pool that is safe for even very young kids. We never used the kayaks or snorkeling gear but the reef beyond the breakwater looked beautiful and we saw many neighbors fishing and paddleboarding out there. Being able to watch the moods of the ocean throughout the day was mesmerizing. Being able to go straight down to the beach without having to load a car or pack a bag, and being able to clean off in the outdoor shower before coming back in, took away so much stress and unpleasantness. While the location may seem a bit remote by Oahu standards, nothing is more than an hour away, and we found the quiet isolation a welcome respite from the busier side of the island. As some of the other reviews suggest, the house itself is not in pristine shape, but the location and value proposition cannot be beat. Would you rather be in a beautiful Waikiki hotel room several blocks from the beach or in a perfectly nice house that is literally on top of the beach? Easy answer for our family. We hope to come back someday and enjoy more of the water activities with older kids.
We had a very pleasant stay in October. The oceanfront location is truly stunning. Arish made the booking process a breeze and we experienced no issues with the house. Since we were initially a little concerned about the prior "furry friends" review, it's worth mentioning that we saw no evidence of them at all. We would definitely stay here again!
We found this property on VRBO last year & were very excited to spend our anniversary there. The house itself is exactly as shown right on the water. The views are spectacular & the lagoon is nice since the waves come up pretty hard on the seawall. The main road runs behind the property but it protected by trees. There are windows across the front of the house and the sliding glass doors open. It was warm but they do have stand fans and there is a ceiling fan in the dining room.
To the left of the house are the bungalows that are part of the property. To your right you have two neighbors. The one right next to you practically shares your lagoon area.
The main property manager was out of the office for the week so we did self check in. We arrived late in the day and were outside pretty much until it got dark enjoying the view. I got up in the morning made breakfast & when we sat down to eat we noticed rodent droppings on the table. We then looked around & found dropping all over the counters in the dining area, on the dining chairs and floor along with a partially eaten banana on the counter. We found a black trap behind the t.v. in the bedroom & unused traps in the closet. We immediately called our contact in the office & left a message along with contacting the main management via email. The main contact told us they put the traps out as a caution & said they were not aware of a problem, however when the office called us back they said “we thought that problem was taken care of. “ They did have maintenance come out right away to lay glue boards & offered to have it cleaned. They should probably take hide the unused traps as not something you want to find in your rental. We asked about other rentals available that were similar to ours at the same price but were told they could not match our rate since each rental sets their own price. There was no way we were going to stay another night to see what would appear on the glueboards so requested a refund. We were refunded all but our first nights stay in the home. We appreciate that however we feel they should have refunded the entire amount. We wasted our entire morning trying to find a new place for 6 nights with something that was not our fault. For this reason I have to rate it one star.
This was our "bucket list" trip to Hawaii. We were so excited to come, and did all of the research and planning ourselves with high hopes. Our family of four traveled here in June 2015 (my husband and myself, ages 43 and 39, respectively, along with our 10 year old son and 8 year old daughter) for a week, followed by 6 days on Kauai at a nice resort. Whereas my very first reaction was one of slight apprehension (the photographs shown here are EXCELLENT but in the light of day and up close the house is a bit less perfect-looking and a little more worn around the edges, thus the four stars instead of five), we proceeded to have a wonderful week here. This is such a unique property; the proximity to the ocean alone and the private lagoon make it worth the money. I want to relate just how intensely I feel about this house, and how wonderful and strong our memories are. We had the best week here---this is decidedly not "tourist Oahu". The day after we arrived we went to church at a nearby Catholic Church (Our Lady of Mount Carmel about ten minutes south down the road) and we could not believe how warmly we were welcomed there. The priest welcomed us in front of the entire congregation, and then after Mass the priest and probably about 10 separate parishioners made a point of inviting us to their Father's Day brunch at the parish center next door after Mass. The hospitality was so genuine, it was like people really wanted us to join them; they weren't just being polite. The children all invited our children into a game of tag after brunch and we wound up scrapping our plans for the morning and just hanging out with people after church. We hadn't even been in Hawaii for 24 hours yet, and already we were asking ourselves if it would be crazy to move here! That set the tone for the rest of the week--we shopped at Costco in Honolulu on Day 1 and we were set for a week of daytime excursions followed by fresh, home cooked meals overlooking the ocean every night. We saw some sunsets that words just can't describe. The house and the lagoon were great. It gets hot without air conditioning on the really hot days, but nothing oppressive. They could use stronger fans in the bedrooms, a better coffee maker in the kitchen, and a less grimy laundry room/washer and dryer, but I'm just being 100% honest here about the amenities. I hope that anyone reading this can tell that we had our best vacation ever and would love to come back to this house in a heartbeat.
